This is the last book in KA’s Honey series. I didn’t think I would like this series because Book #1 did not move me, but I gave it a chance and read Book #2. I was absolutely enthralled with Book #2, so naturally I had to read this one. I was not disappointed. The characters and the story line will captivate you; you won’t want to put it down until the end. I really enjoyed this series; hope you will too!
This book can stand on its own in her Honey series, and I loved the first two, but this one…it stays with you. A story with a hero or heroine who has a tragic past isn’t new for romance – it’s practically the bread and butter of the genre. However, the way a person shapes their reality and relationships to deal with that tragedy, and the obstacles they face to overcome it and accept a healing kind of love in their lives? That’s unique from book to book (when the book is done right). I also adore books that use BDSM to help with that healing process. The heroine uses the Mistress side of her (Sixx) to cope/detach, while the submissive side of her (Simone) responds/opens up to Stellan without losing any of her Mistress mojo. That’s a hard line to walk, but a fabulous push-pull story to read. Yet I’m all about the feelings, people, so it’s the incredible emotions between these two that grabbed me. Several favorite quotes:
She was a switch. She needed power. But she craved being powerless.
He knew Simone Marchesa was treading water, failing in her efforts not to go under, and not much caring if the current pulled her away. So the game had to be played not only so Stellan could drag her to safety. But so he could lift her up. Then at his side he’d take her to the highest peak. And once he got her there, she’d never, not fucking ever, look back down. She’d been held down long enough.
Dialogue – “Sometimes love is not about give and take. There are loves that are only about giving. And with Simone, who was born with nothing and to protect herself carried on keeping it that way, it might be high time she had the opportunity to take all she can get.”
I recommend this one. It will keep you thinking, turning pages and loving the romance, all at once.
This was arguably one of the hottest freaking books I have read. Always down for some BDSM, I was eager to jump into the world of The Honey. I’m even more eager to catch up. The Greatest Risk is my first Honey book and not my last. I swear the MM action in this book will have me coasting on cloud nine for months to come. Never have I wanted my own warrior…until this book. I’m trying to figure out how to explain my new “needs” to much husband. LOL.
Seriously all kidding aside, Mistress Sixx and Master Stellan are panty melting. Their tension and lust cause heart rate increases. But Mistress Sixx is my idol. I want to command that kind of naughty fun. I would probably lose my tongue on the floor. This book is hottttttttt!
Book received in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed on behalf of Once Upon An Alpha
I have been impatiently awaiting Stellan and Sixx’s story from the minute I finished reading The Farthest Edge, and Ms Ashley has not disappointed.
I knew even before I started that their story was going to be a rough ride – and that Stellan and Sixx would love it that way, as I would too.
S & S are a fascinating couple, one that I have been curious about for a long time. There were times I wanted to shake some sense into her, to stop her from doing some silly things, however I also knew why she was doing what she was doing. A right conundrum!
Stellan…. le SIGH! That man is all that and a bag of chips! I love his persistence, he was sweeter than I thought he was going to be – though I guess I knew he was going to have to be all kinds of wonderful to win over Sixx.
Their journey together was both heartbreaking and beautiful.
I love love love that we got more of the Leigh and Olly (though, still can’t connect with Leigh at all) and Branch and Evangeline and the sexploits of the Honey.
I did find myself skimming in the last 15% of the book – nothing to do with S & S, I just thought that there was too much time given to some very minor characters.
The Greatest Risk is a wonderful ending to the Honey series. Now I can’t wait to see what Ms Ashley brings us next.
“But scars were forever, and hers were crippling.”
Finally, the wait is over. I’ve been so intrigued to learn how the author was going to make this couple work. The previous books in the series allowed me to meet these characters along with many more that I want to spend more time with. But this couple especially had to be a very big literary challenge because of their particular kinks that logically don’t work together. But we all know that the heart wants what the heart wants, right?
One of my very favorite things about KA’s writing style is her dialogue. She just has this unique way of giving her characters a voice that can be heard through her words. I can ‘hear’ their tone and their emotions which gives their dialogue that extra something that is rare. She’s especially good with affectionate nicknames between partners. When I ‘hear’ those sweet whispers and passionate gasps full of feeling I melt into a puddle of goo.
I noticed that the author doesn’t identify who is featured in The Greatest Risk in her synopsis so I’m reluctant to mention their names. I will just say that if you have read the other books in the series you will already know them. Here’s a clue, she asks him, “You’re criminally gorgeous, insanely wealthy, excruciatingly generous, irritatingly intelligent, and you can cook?” Yup, he’s all that and so much more. “Not slick, sleek.”
And her, she’s so so broken. Damaged and full of scars inside and out. Her kink is a form of control that helps her to hide her scars. But he sees her. Somehow, the one that she can’t stop wanting, but knows she can’t have, sees beneath her facade. And he wants her anyway.
Holy hotness, Batman! The chemistry and explosive passion between these two is off the charts. She knows that she’s too damaged to be in a relationship, but she wants him. He knows that if he pushes too hard she’ll run. But pushing is in his nature, and he doesn’t know how ‘not’ to get what he wants. That’s how he built his empire, he goes after what he wants and makes it happen. He wants ‘them’ to happen and he won’t stop until she gives in to him. The question is, can he get her to give him more than her body? Will he be able to claim her heart as well? He knows it’s a gamble that might cost him his own heart, but she’s worth the greatest risk.
Each book in this amazing series shows me something new that I’ve never been exposed to previously. The author has done her research and does an excellent job of educating her readers with her stories in this genre. Never having been inside a club like Honey myself, I can ‘see’ it as I read and she makes me feel like I’m there. I’m totally getting my voyeur on and I’m not ashamed to admit it. And yes, I’ll most definitely be back for more when the next book in the series is available. The line forms here…
Love all of her books!!!!!
This is a hard book to review, in that I liked it, but it felt like more than one book, and I liked some way more than others. The book I loved the most was the story of Stellan and Sixx’s romance. Take away everything else and leave just the parts of the story where these two interact, and it is dynamite, compelling , painful, sweet, and romantic. Next favourite part is Sixx’s jobs and all the things she does for them. Definitely action packed and intriguing. When Sixx is in Domme mode, that is super hot, super sexy, and completely drew me in. That woman knows how to work subs, get excited by working subs, or subs being worked, and she owns every scene she is in when it is happening. I was honesty a bit bored during the BDSM scenes between Stellan and Sixx. They were good, all the elements were there, but they went on too long for me, and while the connection was there between them, everything felt too scripted. Overall, I was happy with the book and the stories
I enjoyed this love story. It was a different type of book than I am used to, but this author made it so you couldn’t help to fall in love with these two characters. I recommend this book and this author.
This was a great sexy read. I loved Sixx and Stellan. It was hot. My only issue was the disappointment I felt that Stellan stated he was a Dom for everyone BUT he’d sub for Amelie in the first book. Yet that never really got addressed in this book at all. He let’s Sixx take command in scenes sometimes by the end, but he’s definitely still the Dom while she’s the switch. I don’t know, felt it could have been more. That said I am way more into alpha Dom and female subs then the other way around, so the book worked better for me. Just wished that would have been addressed.
I can not believe I have not written a single review for one of my favorite authors!! I can not tell you all how many re-reads I do of her books, there is just something about Ms. Ashley’s writing that really gets to me and this one is no different.
I have to be honest, this is the only book in the Honey series I’ve read, but when I read the premise and read a few reviews I knew I had to just jump in. Just wow! I looooooovved Stellan, he was the typically alpha male that I love to read, but they way he was with Sixx/Simone was just swoon worthy. He really knew who she was and knew exactly how to approach her. When I read how long this book was and how so many side characters were the main feature, I was a bit apprehensive along with it being about a Dom and Domme. But I really did enjoy it.
I love her writing she is the best
Sublime BDSM romance. First run had a few mistakes but didn’t take away from the book.
I loved this book! Damaged heroine who is super competent as a fixer & law office investigator. Stellan is a dominant alpha male into the Master / Sub culture, but will he save the girl & be a switch for her domimatrix play. Can she be a switch & will they get past all their secrets. Very engaging & sexy. Steamy hot sex scenes!
Not for the faint of heart. I’ve read most of the books written by this author and I would say this book contains her most erotic and realistic sex scenes. Even I was uncomfortable with some of what I read. But she is a good writer and I have enjoyed reading her books.
The sensitive soul and the superhero both had stepped out of the shadow.
Mistress Sixx had grown skilled at keeping her emotions tightly locked up. She was detached during her scenes at the Honey, she didn’t have friendships or love interests. Sixx lived in a small, empty, run-down apartment, making it easy to up and leave when she needed.
For the past several years she’s had her eye on one man. One man she knew was out of her league and off limits. And that was the greatest risk for Mistress Sixx, giving her heart to someone, even if that someone was Stellan.
Stellan finds the one that’s worth it, he’ll break his back, sell his soul, work his fingers to the bone to win her and keep her.
Stellan was living his life trying not to be like his father. He was a very successful businessman. As a Dom, he spent a lot of time at the Honey. He’d spent years watching and waiting for the right time for him and Sixx. When that time came, he went all-in.
I want to be your lover. I want to be your Master. I want to know all your secrets. I want to unravel the mystery that’s you and then help you keep it safe. I want you, and the way I want you is beside me, in bed, in play and in life.
You guys, I am so torn! I started out LOVING this book! It was a solid 4 (and that was only because some of the scenes and subject matter were not my cuppa). I loved the romance between Stellan and Sixx! I loved the demons they faced and how they did so at each other’s sides! Sixx was IT for Stellan and he did everything in his power to prove to her he was IT for her too! It was beautiful, romantic and healing. Gah, then 80% mark hit and everything I had loved about this powerful story vanished! The story became centered around a Sixx’s investigation and an MMF trio. Because I understood the reason for the investigation and its importance to Sixx’s character, I kept reading, hoping for Stellan and Sixx to become the focus again. While the story does return to them, the chemistry and “feeling” changed for me.
This was still a beautiful story despite my frustration with the ending. I definitely recommend it to BDSM, MM, MMF and Kristen Ashley fans!
Stellan just oozes confidence, “a gentleman,” he took her elbow, “opens the door,” he put pressure on his hold on her and guided her from the car, “for a lady.” Stellan’s woman sure knows how to read him, “is that code for, ‘Are you ready to go upstairs so I can eff you senseless?’” Stellan doesn’t like to be questioned, “he turned his head and locked eyes on her. “You’re having my children,” he growled.” I liked this book, Stellan was a very dominating man.
It’s passionate and powerful; suspenseful and seductive. Kristen Ashley’s finale of the Honey series is an endless list of beautiful adjectives that add up to an explosive 5 star read. Sixx, a renowned Domme in the Honey Club, has had her eyes on Stellan for years. Ever the ice queen, Sixx has never approached or dared to risk anything more than a furtive glance. Her main concern? He’s a Dom; and two dominant personalities combined with her dangerous past could never work. So she watches and waits as Stellan seems to move about life without her.
Stellan’s eyed the beautifully intriguing Sixx for longer than she could imagine. After waiting years for her to make a move he decides that only another Dom is willing to crack the shell of this mysterious femma fatale. What Stellan hadn’t planned on was not only culling the dominatrix but releasing the submissive inside. Our surprising little Sixx is a Switch; a rarity in the BDSM world. Now Stellan has to love the woman in control and woman who craves it. But is Sixx willing to take the greatest Risk?
In KA’s distinctive voice, I found a new hero within Sixx. Much like past heroes in her romances, Sixx has the attitude of a hero who doesn’t shy from what must be done yet doesn’t find themselves worthy of happiness or true love. Sixx is a persona created by our heroine to handle the harsh reality of the world and to shield herself from that which cold break her heart. But KA’s genius doesn’t allow for Sixx to be unnecessary or a skin that must be shed to find the true woman underneath. No, both the woman and the warrior are parts of Sixx that Stellan (and Sixx and readers alike) has to learn to love. There’s a beauty to her fragmented idea of self. Sixx doesn’t need to be fixed, she needs to be discovered, by others and herself.
In addition to our final Honey couple, KA dives into more worlds of the exotic and risque. With a wondrous gift from Stellan we get privilege to a warrior’s pit. And it Sixx’s dangerous world we dive deeper into the other clubs of BDSM and meet one of the hottest trios to ever grace romance pages (Seriously it was some of the hottest scenes I’ve ever read…EVER). The raw emotion throughout the entire novel is the number one reason why this is an instant addition to my top reads. Grab a glass of wine and some tissues because its about to get messy at the Honey Club.
An absolute page turner! I couldn’t put it down – read it in one sitting. My only critique would be that Sixx’s situation resolved itself a little too quickly and easily than it would in real life. That being said I truly enjoyed this book (& the entire series). I would truly enjoy reading about Arayas and Talia or to have a book about Cam in the future. Also would enjoy this series continue.
Another good Kristen Ashley novel. I had not cared for Stellan in previous Honey books so I was not prepared to like him. As for Sixx, she’s very stand-offish.
Well, this was their story so get to know them I did. Sixx had significant trauma as a child and has walked herself off. Seemingly impenetrable walls. Stellan is not the self-absorbed person he always seemed. He’s decided Sixx is his and he’s stopping a nothing to have her. He’s a bit high-handed. Often. Yes, I know, he’s a Dom. But it’s more than that.
The meat of the story is actually only over several weeks, and that time is spent getting to know each other, living together, tearing down walls (a little every day), a lot of self-preservation, some lashing out, and a lot of taking risks.
But the Stellan and Sixx/Simone we see emerging are very likable, very endearing, passionate, tender, romantic, and loving. It’s a long story but I think Sixx needed it. Healing takes time and heal her is what Stellan did. He healed her and loved her and taught her to love herself.
5 Flaming Hot Stars
I love this series that is a bit of a departure for this author. It is BDSM and much more erotic stories.
The Greatest Risk is book 3 in The Honey Series. Each of these books can be read as standalone, but do have interconnected characters.
“Because Sixx was used to taking risks. She did not calculate them. She did not move through them cautiously. She met them head on.”
I really loved how vulnerable the heroine, Simone/Mistress Sixx, was even while she was such a strong, take charge domme.
Stellan Lange is an ultimate KA alpha hero. Swoony, protective, caring and as sweet on the inside as he is hard and tough on the outside!!
“You’re criminally gorgeous, insanely wealthy, excruciatingly generous, irritatingly intelligent, and you can cook?”
I just adored this off the charts HOT and KINKY story!! Along with the steam is a beautiful story of character growth, redemption and hope. Stellan has to work hard to help Simone realize what an amazing person she was underneath her invisible scars.
I so enjoyed the glimpses we get of the characters from the previous Honey series stories. I really don’t want this series to end and hope maybe a novella or two might be down the road.
-5 Stars!!-
