There are murmurs that Broomewode is an energy vortex. It certainly makes Poppy see and do things that aren’t exactly normal, and seems to draw interesting characters to the neighborhood.

Such a great first in a cozy paranormal series with interesting characters whose interactions pull you deeper into their lives as the MC enters the baking contest so she can discover more about her past and how it may impact her future. Looking forward to the next book!
THE GREAT WITCHES BAKING SHOW is a standalone cozy mystery. This story is not a romance novel. It is an entertaining funny mystery. It is set in England, outside of Bath. An infant girl is found in a cardboard box in front of a local bakery. Efforts to find the mother proved useless. The family that owned the bakery waned to keep the child but as they had 3 already the baby girl was given to a couple of teachers. They lived in the UK until she was 9 and then moved to the US. After they moved back to the UK they moved to France but Poppy stayed in the area of her birth hoping to find her birth mother.
Poppy is now 25, has a gift of seeing dead people. No one knows of her gift. While watching a reality TV show, The Baking show, they are showing the interior of a manor home where the show is being filmed. On the wall in the dining room there is a portrait of a young woman and she is wearing a shawl that is the exact same pattern as the baby blanket she was wrapped in. She wants to get in that house to see if she can trace the shawl/blanket to her mother.
She manages to become a contestant on the baking show but the manor home is off-limits. There is a lot of action, adventure, mystery, and just plain fun as things become more and more involved. And then one of the contestants is found dead right in front of his oven. Now the police get involved. This is a fun read and a good mystery. Each week there is a new filming of the show and Poppy continues to try and locate her mother and along the way more and more mysteries come up and are solved. This is going to be a fun series and I love deep family secrets. The family in the manor home seem to have a lot of secrets themselves. I really enjoyed this first book and look forward to the next one.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 1/15/2020
The Great Witches Baking Show is the first book in a new series by Nancy Warren and I really enjoyed it! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and definitely won’t be my last. I really like the main character Poppy, she’s sweet and adorable and the secondary characters are just as great. I loved the mystery, the suspense keeps you guessing, and the plot flowed smoothly from page to page. It’s a great, funny story and I can’t wait for the next book.
I really enjoyed this wonderful read. I thought the story line was fun and the characters likable. This cozy mystery was a pure delight to read. The suspense and twists will keep you guessing, while the humor, sweetness and charm make this feel like putting on your favorite sweater on a chilly day. The lead character Poppy was super easy to become invested in and I found her quite relatable. I do wish that there had been some romance incorporated into this book; as I am a huge romance junkie. But, I am going to keep my hopes up for that in future books in this series. Fingers Crossed!! This was a new to me author that I am thrilled to have discovered and will definitely be reading more from.
This is my first book by this author, but I will definitely read more of her books.
it is a wonderful paranormal cozy murder mystery, there is no romance. I love the great British Baking show, so this book was perfect for me, because it showed about it is for the contestants and for Poppy there is an extra element. She is a bit different than the other contestants. and is looking for finding ut moree her past.
It is a wonderful, funny and heartwarming book.
“When someone you love is in trouble, you find extra strength.”
Poppy Wilkerson, an American who moved to England, has been chosen to be part of The Great British Baking Contest. However, Poppy has ulterior motives to get into Broomewode Hall, where she feels that her unknown past may be connected.
However, other things get in the way…like a cat who won’t leave, sabotage on set that leads to dire consequences … and discoveries that change Poppy’s thinking and open up other roads to her future.
I love Nancy Warren’s work, and this new series proves I’ve backed a winner. As a former professional cook,I know some of the chaos that comes when “too many cooks…” get involved. This is the beginning of another wonderful series, I’d bet my Sabatier chef’s knife on it! Highly Recommended 5/5
