“Carter’s writing is on target.” –Publishers WeeklyA curmudgeon. An iconoclast. A loner. That’s how people describe Garrison Gage, and that’s when they’re being charitable. After his wife’s brutal murder in New York, and Gage himself is beaten nearly to death, the hobbled private investigator retreats three thousand miles to the quaint coastal town of Barnacle Bluffs, Oregon. He spends the next … Bluffs, Oregon. He spends the next five years in a convalescent stupor, content to bide his time filling out crossword puzzles and trying to forget that his wife’s death is his fault. But all that changes when he discovers the body of a young woman washed up on the beach, and his conscience draws him back into his old occupation – forcing him to confront the demons of his own guilt before he can hope to solve the girl’s murder.

Great character development.
Found the characters to be very entertaining, believable and easy to care for. Page-turning entertainment that’s very well written with descriptions that allows the reader to visualize each scene easily as if you’re really there. Didn’t disappoint even at the end. Easy reading and informative, allowing the reader to feel emotions for the …
Great character development. I really like the main character detective Garrison Gage. He’s a bit grumpy and guilt ridden but it is understandable with the tragic death years before of his wife. He is balanced out by his friend and former FBI agent now retired and current book store owner who regularly calls Garrison out on his curmudgeon …
Liked the author and will read more books written by him. A good read and hard to put down
Best book I’ve read in a while. It hooked me from the beginning to the end. Garrison Gage is an interesting character. I can’t wait to read more from Scott William Carter.
There were parts of this story that were very predictable, but other parts were totally out of left field. It made for a good story once it all came together. At times it got a bit confusing; still a good read though. *S*
What did I like about this book? Nothing. Long on personal angst; short on plot. Won’t read this author again.
I liked this entire series a lot
It was interesting and compelling. It would definitely encourage people that have tragedy in their lives to know they can overcome it.
I really could relate to the main character in his need to appreciate a quiet life, but of course, his life would never really be quiet. Very interesting and realistic characters.
I have read the first 3 books in this series. I’m eagerly awaiting book number 4!
Very interesting read. First time reading this author but it won’t be the last. Writer made you feel like you were right there in his little town. Loved the multiple plots twined in the book.
Surprisingly held my attention!
Fun read with engaging characters. Only problem is that I have been unable to locate the sequels.
