Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both … Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.
Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.
Graham Russell wasn’t a man who knew how to love, and I wasn’t a woman who knew how to either. Yet if I had the chance to fall again, I’d fall with him forever.
Even if we were destined to crash against solid ground.

The Gravity of Us is perfection. I honestly don’t know how Brittainy Cherry does it. She writes such beautiful stories and this one is no exception. I love the way she tackles this romance and it was so beautiful and sweet. My heart completely melted while reading this book.
Graham and Lucy were wonderful characters that I loved right away. Lucy is such a free spirit who loves hard and is completely loyal to those she loves. The love she feels for her sisters was one of the things I really loved about her. The way she changed Graham and showed him what true love was gutted me. Graham had a terrible childhood and it is clear how much its scarred him. He is very broody, but he slowly starts to change when Lucy comes into his life. The love they feel for one another was pure and they fell so hard before either of them realized it. The Gravity of Us was soo damn good.
This is the first book I’ve read from her, and I was utterly captivated by it. I could NOT put it down.
The Gravity of Us was such a great read. I have to say this is truly the fist book I’ve read where I absolutely loved the leading female character more that I did the leading male. Lucy had a heart of gold and carried around a light with her that couldn’t be diminished. Graham is a character that will come off as a jerk but underneath all of his tough exterior and sarcastic words, he really is a man that knows how to love once you’ve broken down his walls. Underneath everything is a man that just needs to feel secure and needs to be held without the fear of being let go. I enjoyed this story a lot. It’s definitely different from any other story I have read before and that alone made this story worth reading. I look forward to reading more books from this author in the future. I honestly haven’t read one of her books that was disappointing and that makes everything she writes a must read.
Kleenex people …. lots of Kleenex … stockpile it now.
There are only two things I want to focus my review on because I know you’ll read all the other greatness that is this book in every other review.
First, this was one of the most poignant love stories I have read in a loooooooooong time. It was pure and it was honest. The hippie weirdo girl and the closed-off brooding man. Not a likely pair yet absolutely perfect. And you wanna know why? Because that closed-off man didn’t want to be closed-off and it took that free-bird hippie weirdo to make him comfortable in his own skin. The depth of this story is magnificent in its simplicity. I was in awe at 2% and continued until the end.
Second, this was the story of Graham Russell more than the story of two people. His growth in the story took center stage. However, it was the love story itself that allowed him the growth. Brilliant, I tell you … just brilliant!
There are not a lot of authors out there that I can say every book I’ve read written by them has been perfection. I can say that about Brittainy C. Cherry. All her stories, including this one, have all kinds of nooks and crannies or twists and turns so deeply embedded in the story-line that if you blink, you might miss them. I read her books very slowly. They deserve to be savored. They are perfection.
It always amazes me the depth of emotions Brittainy C Cherry puts into her stories and this book was no exception. This story evolved over a couple years yet what was consistent was the emotional roller-coaster ride we were taken on. At first I started having doubts as to whether I would like this book but in fine Brittainy C Cherry style I was quickly won over and hooked on the story.
This novel was different. The two main characters were involved with other people and I was confused as to how this will play out. What we got was an unlikely and unwilling friendship that turned to love. And what a love story it was indeed.
The main characters were likable and easy to relate to. Lucy and Graham were as different and opposite as two people could possibly be, yet who would have guessed they would be so right for each other. Where Lucy was free-spirited, hopeful, bright and emotional, Graham was broken, mean, angry and so closed off. Yet the friendship that developed between them over time eventually turned into a love that was so breath-taking and inspiring.
There were additional secondary characters who together with the leads made this novel a page-turner. You see this story was more that just a romance. It was also about the importance of family whether they be blood related or not.
The emotions portrayed in the story had me all over the place, I laughed, I cried, I got angry, was in total disbelief at times yet at the end of it all I couldn’t stop smiling. I loved this gut-wrenching masterpiece with all its twists and turns and I would highly recommend it. This was an excellent read.
MAKTUB …..‘it is written.’ Everything in life happened for a reason, happened exactly how it was meant to, no matter how painful it seemed. Some love stories were meant to be forever, and others just for a season.
And it’s fate that brings Lucille and Graham Russell on a cross street of life. As waves crash against the rocks and sharp cliffs, so does this Hippie Weirdo of a girl, who burns sage and carries crystals, crash against the stone cold persona of Graham. He’s apathetic to her Empathetic personality.
She was the girl who felt everything, and I was the man who felt nothing at all.
No matter how hard the shell around his heart, it opens up just a crack and that’s all she needs to wedge her way through in his life and then his heart.
The writing is so superb, it’s like I can actually see the story. If any book deserves to be made into a movie or a series, it’s this one. Brittainy has delved really deep into the matters of the heart.
Graham is a product of his environment. His parents didn’t provide a loving environment and his abandonment issues run deep and when faced with uncertainties in a relationship, his heart fortifies itself by pushing people away.
That’s worked for him ….till now
Now….Lucy is giggling her way into his life and his heart has started beating again.
The story gives you FEELS , in CAPS . I couldn’t help but lose myself into the beautiful words that hold you hostage, I couldn’t walk away from the story. Stepping away seemed sacrilegious .
Brittainy seems an acute observer of human nature and puts them on paper so fluently, some parts actually ring true as my own.
“Loneliness is a liar, It’s toxic and deadly most of the time. It forces people to believe they are better off with the devil himself than being alone, because somehow being alone means a person failed . Somehow being alone means a person isn’t good enough. So, more often than not , the poison of loneliness seeps in and makes a person believe that any kind of attention must stand for love. Fake love that is built on a bed of loneliness will fail— I should know. I’ve been alone all my life.”
Such fantastic description as to why so many women choose to stay in abusive relationships & trapped in a loveless marriages
Everybody will find something to take away from this story . I discovered myself many times while reading it
In the end it all build down to Destiny. But you have to accept fate in all its entirety, you don’t get to edit the bad parts out.
Maktub……“It means all is written , Lucy. It means everything that happens was meant to be, not only what you believe to be destined. You can’t only accept the positive in life. You must accept it all.
“Air above me, earth below me, fire within me, water surround me…”
The Gravity of Us is such a beautiful, emotional love story. Brittainy Cherry has done it again, made me cry, made me swoon and made me fall in love! Graham and Lucy are adorable together, and their journey is something I’ll remember for a long time. She’s so strong, so kind, so upbeat that I can’t see how anyone wouldn’t love her at first sight. Graham was harder to fall for at first, but once he showed his true self, he showed that he was the perfect man, and perfect for Lucy.
They meet at his father’s funeral where her flower shop has provided some flowers. He’s a grouchy, world famous author and she’s a “hippie weirdo” but the two of them eventually form a bond of sorts that somehow becomes the kind of love we all wish for. She brings his heart to life, and he grounds her soul, her beautiful, free-spirited soul. When they first meet, they cannot figure each other out at all. He has no idea what to think of her, but she lets his rudeness just fall off her back. “I’d realized I’d come face to face with my polar opposite, and I didn’t have a clue what else to say to a stranger as strange as her.”
He’s a man who has no hope, who feels nothing at all for anything or anyone except for perhaps his dad, Professor Ollie, the man who mentors him, loves him and brings him into his family. Graham has a wife who’s pregnant, but he feels nothing but annoyance at her. She’s a cold-hearted bitch, quite frankly, so I don’t blame him for not loving her. But, when she gives birth to his daughter, the glimmers of hope and love stir his long dead soul, and it’s here where Lucy comes in. It’s here where the two form their bond and fall in love. Hold up, though, there’s no cheating here, so don’t think you have to not read if you hate cheating. Lucy is the antithesis of Graham’s cold visage. She’s light and hope and Graham’s frozen heart simply cannot resist hers. “She wore heart on her sleeve, and I kept my heart wrapped in steel chains deep within my soul.”
I don’t want to give any spoilers, just know that this is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. You’ll fall in love with Graham and Lucy, and Talon and Professor Ollie if you just take the step and dive into it. Do it, you won’t regret it!!
What a fantastic book! There are a ton of great parts, I went a little crazy with the highlighting.
I Truly could not put this book down! Just like the other books this wonderful author has written! It’s a Must read!
4.5 stars
“She was the girl who felt everything, and I was the man who felt nothing at all.”
I am a huge fan of Brittainy’s writing, and I knew this book would be amazing. If you read the blurb, you know it doesn’t really give you a clear idea of what to expect. I didn’t even read it myself I dived right into it. I will keep the plot as vague as possible, just go in like me and enjoy the ride. I was intrigued by the characters right away. I loved Graham’s occupation and thought it fit the story perfectly. Graham and Lucy are the polar opposite of each other. Graham is career driven, closed off, someone who you just can’t read. He is very organized, cold and rude. However Lucy is all over the place: flighty, passionate, and emotionally overcharged. She is someone who wears her heart on her sleeve and you know exactly what she is feeling. I just loved how they first met, it was original and it really illustrated the differences between the two.
“I’d died a million deaths before I gave living a chance, and my first breath of life was taken from her lips.”
They think they have nothing in common, when out of nowhere something happens and they are thrown together to handle the situation as best as they can. I really loved this turn of events. Graham had to adjust the most, it was very intriguing seeing him grow as an individual. Both of them have their demons and are dealing with things. They found peace in each other’s arms. I especially loved the developments of them as a couple. They went from being annoyed with each other to best friends. This friendship meant the world to them. They saved each other from losing themselves. I just loved the dynamic between these two. I also loved the side characters and felt like they added another layer to the story, which was essential to the story. Be prepared to have your heart broken a couple of times.
“And I realized you were the first and only thing that ever made my heartbeats come to life.”
I laughed, I cried, I got mad and felt many other emotions while I was reading this book. This book is more than just about love; it is about family, friendship, and overcoming and fighting your demons. Brittainy has done it again and took me on a amazing ride with her beautiful writing. She writes the most original and intriguing stories. I want less fat and more muscle in the books I read (I am not talking about body sizes here guys so don’t start attacking me, it’s about quality over quantity. You’ll understand what I mean when you read the book.), and that is exactly what Brittainy gives me every time with her writing. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next, she is an automatic one-click author for me.
Once again Brittainy delivers an amazing and heartbreaking story about two opposites that are the perfect complement to each other.
We have Lucy and Graham, very likeable characters that bit by bit steal a piece of your heart. Likewise, the secondary characters, that have relevance and impact in the main story.
The way Brittainy writes makes you feel everything, every page is full of so many emotions and transmit a beautiful message.
At the end of the journey, you’ll have a smile on your face.
The perfect ending to one of the most beautiful series I’ve read.
Loved the characters, this was different. very very interesting and not the usual predictable stuff we get everyday. The main character was a class A jerk, loved that he was broken down slowly and in a realistic manner. Life happened to him,
This was a beautiful piece of writing.
So good. I loved this book so so much. The author’s style of writing, her creation of characters, her ability to make you feel for these people. Absolutely outstanding. I laughed out loud many times, and I did cry several times as well. There is only one steamy scene that really serves the story and the characters. It’s not just sexytimez for the sake of it. Read this book! So wonderful.
I adore anything that comes from the mind of Brittainy Cherry. Any story she has ever published has been absolutely soul imprinting and “The Gravity of Us” is no different.
After joining the reading world again as an adult, I quickly discovered Brittainy’s work. And just as quickly, she became an absolute favourite author whose work I recommend to anyone who will listen.
“The Gravity of Us” introduces us to 3 sisters who have lost their mother. 3 very different sisters with very different lives. One is cold, one is scared and one is free. We also meet Graham. Graham has shut his heart. He does not hope. He does not expect anything from anyone.
Then Graham – the man who has shut his heart – meets Lucy – the woman who is free.
I absolutely hate to say it, but I did find the first bit of this story difficult to wade through. I found it hard to get involved with the journey of Lucy and Graham, as at times I felt it was too rushed to include the background we needed to really understand them.
However, knowing Brittainy’s work is always brilliant made it easier to push forward – because I knew greatness was coming. And greatness did come.
There was just the right amount of angst and heart, mixed together. There was love to cover everyone and soul to bind the story together.
There are some incredibly amazing quotes in this book, and I suspect serious Brittainy fans will be adorned with tattoos of her work….myself included.
“The Gravity of Us” was a beautiful story to end the “Elements” series, and I am incredibly excited to see what Brittainy does next.
* I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers a copy of this book for Reading Tigress *
Amazing ….all of this authors books are amazing though. They are romances, but deep , emotional romance. Not just sex and fluff.
This is the final book of The Element Series and Brittainy Cherry like the rest of her books opens your heart and makes you feel her words deep in your soul forever. Lucy has two sisters Lyric and Mari. There mom passed away while they were young so they have always looked out for each other till Lyric left. Lyric wanted structure. Lucy is a “everything” girl she’s free spirit she shows her emotions and never keeps them inside herself. “Air above me, earth below me, fire within me, water surround me” Lucy meets Graham a writer the total opposite of Lucy. Graham is cold he keeps his feelings inside “The more feelings you give, the more they’ll take from you.” When there worlds collide it’s just like Lucy’s tattoo on her wrist “Maktub”. It means all is written, that everything happens for a reason.” But because of the consequences do Lucy and Graham have to give up on love? “Being around you does something strange to me, something that hasn’t happened in such a long time.” “My heart begins to beat again” “We weren’t suppose to feel this way. We weren’t suppose to fall for one another, she and I. Yet it seemed gravity had a way of pulling us together.” A beautiful story that shows us on this earth that when we find that special someone to never let them go they make the world less dark. “It’s you, I whispered, our lips still touching. “My greatest hope is, and always will be, you” This book deserves 10 stars my top book of this year! 5/5 stars “If You need to fall, fall into me.” ****Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Read provided for a voluntarily Advanced Reader Copy of this book ****
“For the first time, I began to understand her fully. The beautiful girl who felt everything. Her emotions weren’t what made her weak. They were her strength.”
I. Can’t. Even.
This book was yet another from Brittainy that ripped my heart out before it put me back together. Graham and Lucy’s story was one that surprised me. I’ve hardly been disappointed with this series, but when I began The Gravity of Us, I wasn’t quite certain where it was going or how I felt. As the story progressed, I began to have so many feelings. I was angry, frustrated, happy, then sad…I couldn’t keep the tears from flowing, my heart from breaking, and occasionally wanting to throw my iPad.
Each of the element stories had a certain level of emotion, this one brought out angles of a storyline which were unexpected. I loved how my emotions were pulled in so many directions, as each character required just a bit of my attention. I have to say that I adored Lucy and am beyond jealous of how much beauty a person like her brings to the world.
I hesitate to say too much about the story, because much of it is best left to discover on your own. It’s in the small details that you really begin to understand the characters and how they are affecting each others’ lives. This was a story that gave a little bit of all the things that make a story beautiful. It’s also an amazing addition to the Elements series.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
The description of this book does not do justice to this original, emotional filled, well written story and characters that this amazing author has created!! I cannot wait to read more from Brittainy Cherry!!!
