Meet retired cop, Sam Prichard.Sam Prichard was a cop, and a good one, until the bullets took out the joint of his right hip. Now he’s trying to learn to live without being a cop, and getting to know his neighbors, learning to walk again and even ride a motorcycle. Life is bearable, barely, but then he gets asked to find a missing child, and the lure of getting back into some kind of police work … kind of police work is too much for him to resist. When he teams up with computer whiz Indiana Perkins, he suddenly becomes one of the best investigators he’s ever even known.
Now, he’s found the missing child, but it’s thrown him right into the middle of something that may be a drug war–or could be a chance to stop the next 911! There’s no way out for Sam, so he’s in for the ride of his life, but when the girl he’s becoming fond of is suddenly drawn into the line of fire with her own little daughter, Sam is ready to forget all the rules and do whatever is necessary to win the day.

The most thrilling, exciting, fast paced action that won’t let go. I could not stop reading. Sam Prichard is a cop turned P.I. when he was hurt on the job. This character is so amazing and I can’t wait to read this whole series. Amazing writing.
Interesting characters
Very well written book. No steamy sex scenes and Sam Prichard is actually a good guy.
Started out slow then picked up the pace. A good read
Couldn’t put it down. I didn’t know who the enemy was until the very end.
This was my first read of Mr. Archer and it was quite exciting. Also there was the shaky start of a romance. Plan to read more of his work. Since retiring, I’ve tried to catch up on my reading. Working for 40 years and raising a family left no time for reading.
I so enjoyed this book. I am so impressed when someone can write a story this intestring and keep readers coming back for more adventures. I read daily on my commute to and from work so having something good to read is a treat! I think this has appeal to a vast reader’s group. I couldn’t put it down
Love this series.
For me, it was hard to put down, loved these characters.
Good read! Kept me pulled in and didn’t want to put down. I’ll read more by this author.

I liked it.
It was a good read. I would read more by this author.
The gentleman ex-cop with a good attitude and a methodical method of detection happens on the perfect computer geek to help track down the information needed to solve the problem. I’m putting this author on my favorites list.

A Good Quick and Simple Summer Read
The novel opens with Sam Prichard, a Denver police officer on loan to the DEA, on a raid during which his partner was shot and he was shot three times shattering his hip. His partner returned to duly; Sam is medically retired. When Sam returned home, he need to use a mobile wheelchair, but gradually he only required to use a cane. His neighbors started to mow his lawn, provide food, etc. Sam did not like that and worked out ways to repay his neighbors by fixing their vehicles and other odd jobs.
Sam was starting to get used to his retirement when Sandy Ward came to his front door. She introduced herself and asked if Sam could find her granddaughter. Her father took her for his court approved custody for the weekends and did not return her at the appointed time. The father claims that he did drop her off on time in front of the grandmother’s house. The police were not helpful. Sam who used to work in missing persons knew how to work a missing person’s case. Sam was reluctant but the grandmother’s pleas changed his mind. The novel takes off from here.
The storyline unfolds quite linearly. Until the end, there are not any twists and turns. There is some character development for Sam and the assistant he hired. As I incorporated in the title of my review, this is a good quick and simple summer read. This novel captured my imagination so I finished it in two days that for me is very fast.
Foul language was very minimal in the novel. In fact, his partner at one point said, “can kiss my [you know the expletive that goes here].” The author uses the word, patootie, instead. That expletive does find its way in eleven times throughout the novel. There are not any sex scenes, graphic or otherwise. Therefore, there should not be any problems for anyone reading this novel.
Overall, I wanted to continue to read this novel. There was one twist at the end that increased my enjoyment in reading this novel. It did not have the major twists and turns that I usually require for a five star review, so I have rated it four stars. If you want a simple, entertaining summer read, this The Grave Man a try.
David Archer is a fast-paced author – his Sam Prichard series and Noah Wolf series are awesome.
