The “marvelously funny” and much-loved humorist explores the perils of suburban living in this New York Times bestseller (Vogue). For years, the Bombecks have heard rumors of a magical land called Suburbia where the air is clean, the grass is trimmed, and children don’t risk getting mugged on their walk to school. After watching their friends flee the city for subdivided utopias like Bonaparte’s … subdivided utopias like Bonaparte’s Retreat and Mortgage Mañana, Erma and her family load up their belongings and cry, “Station wagons . . . ho!” But life on the suburban frontier is not as perfect as they had hoped. The trees are stunted, the house is cramped, and there’s no grass at all. But the Bombecks will make do, for they are suburbanites now—the last true pioneers! This ebook features an illustrated biography of Erma Bombeck including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

If you want some good clean laughs, Erma Bombeck is your girl.
This book represents an entertaining look at the life of an American female at the very beginning of the drive for female empowerment. As a child of the 60 ‘s, I’ve maintained for decades that I’m much more liberated than I ever wanted to be. This book reminds us of where we started.
Although it was somewhat funny, I was disappointed. It didn’t measure up to what I thought I remembered reading Erma’s column in the newspaper.
I was pretty disappointed with this book.
I have read many things by Erma Bombeck and have always enjoyed them.
I found this book to be boring and not funny or amusing. Perhaps if you were an adult in this time period of the beginnings of Suburbia. you would find some of this entertaining.
I am 62 years old and I really found this subject matter …
Irma bombeck is hilarious as usual. Light reading that gives you just the escape your mind needed! Enjoy!
A great book for young and middle aged moms
Such a unique way of looking at life. This is a very entertaining read.
No one does funny like Erma Bombeck!! Hilarious.
I remember Irma and her voice so can hear her talking.
I admired Irma Bombeck and enjoyed her on Television. Her humor and ability
to laugh at ” problems as a homemaker” made my years as a young mother and
wife easier to get the best of those years.
Erma Bombeck is hilarious!
Bombeck at her best!!! Lovedevery page.
I loved Erma.
Loved this book when it first came out but it seems a little dated now.
The first Bombeck book I’ve ever read. My mother loved her. Frankly, I found the book amusing at best, but not as laugh out funny as I thought. The title to the book was witty, but the rest was disappointing.
Erma Bombeck has great fun waltzing through the daily grind of home-making, parenting, and married life. This book is a humorous homage.
Great for older generations
I loved it, and me a fan of Erma Bombeck before I was even a teenager. Seeing the title here on bookbub, makes me just want to return to it again, now that I’m in my forties. I’m sure the technology will bring nostalgia, but I’m betting the humor is timeless.
Enjoyable brought back memories of those times
Bombach was one of the funniest writers around. It’s laugh out loud reading.
