The “marvelously funny” and much-loved humorist explores the perils of suburban living in this New York Times bestseller (Vogue). For years, the Bombecks have heard rumors of a magical land called Suburbia where the air is clean, the grass is trimmed, and children don’t risk getting mugged on their walk to school. After watching their friends flee the city for subdivided utopias like Bonaparte’s … subdivided utopias like Bonaparte’s Retreat and Mortgage Mañana, Erma and her family load up their belongings and cry, “Station wagons . . . ho!” But life on the suburban frontier is not as perfect as they had hoped. The trees are stunted, the house is cramped, and there’s no grass at all. But the Bombecks will make do, for they are suburbanites now—the last true pioneers! This ebook features an illustrated biography of Erma Bombeck including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

Years ago my mother, an avid reader, asked me to find a book for her while she was in the hospital. I wanted something light hearted, yet engaging. I found this book, & it was perfect. She laughed so hard that the nurses kept coming into her room to find out what was going on!
Few books can keep one laughing as this one does.
Excellent snapshot of a bygone time, but the characters remain relevant and familiar.
Erma was a very funny woman who viewed life with a grain of salt.
Love Erma and her reminders of life in the 70s. A lot of her takes on life still hold true today. My husband and I just recently built a house and the chapter on house building rang so true today as it did all those years ago. Very funny and entertaining.
I went to buy this on Amazon and they wanted $10 more than Bookbub showed.
Anything from Irma Bombeck is always a laugh riot.
I’ve always been a fun of Erma Bombeck. . When her column was appearing in THR LA TIMES can’t wait for it daily. The only Reason I subscribed to LA TIMES then.
Loved all her books.
It’s Erma, what more do I have to say? I have always been able to identify with her writing and characters.
Laugh out loud funny!!
Delightful. Had me in stitches.
Bombeck does it again and it is hysterical!
No one is better at making the every day frustrations of life actually seem funny than Erma Bombeck. Her situations no longer fit exactly with ours (she wrote before the tech revolution), but the feelings of mothers and kids and families are universal. She lets moms know they are not alone.
Gotta love Aunt Erma’s down-to-earth, totally relatable humor!
I read this book a very long time ago and never forgot it It made you laugh out loud at times. Very uplifting book.
What’s not to like? She was a blast and is sorely missed.
I miss Erma Bombeck. She told it like it is. Funny, self-deprecating and sometimes serious. I’m pretty sure I’ve read every one of her books more than once. When she died I sat and cried. I felt like I had lost a close friend.
I love everything erma bombeck has wrote. I have been reading and rereading her books for years. And they always make me laugh. Love her way of finding humor in everyday life. She says what we are all thinking.
She is a hilarious author and all her books are good.
