Set on the outskirts of a small Southern town, The Grass Harp tells the story of three endearing misfits—an orphaned boy and two whimsical old ladies—who one day take up residence in a tree house. As they pass sweet yet hazardous hours in a china tree, The Grass Harp manages to convey all the pleasures and responsibilities of freedom. But most of all it teaches us about the sacredness of love, … sacredness of love, “that love is a chain of love, as nature is a chain of life.”
This volume also includes Capote’s A Tree of Night and Other Stories, which the Washington Post called “unobtrusively beautiful . . . a superlative book.”

Can’t think of anything uplifting or inspiring from Truman Capote works.
Not my kind of book
Beautiful language and character descriptions.
Reminded me what a wonderful writer Capote was.
Wonderful, stays with you.
I travel Capote’s world mostly for the words. Yes, there is plot, characterization, mood, beginnings, middles, and ends (although some of those ends are quite abrupt). Wonderful characters of Capote’s childhood
The Grass Harp is engagingly Written in tight, original, and expressive language. The other stories are equally well written but less engaging and satisfying to read.
Simply not my kind is read
Was wonderful to re-read Mr. Capote’s beautiful stories. His detailed descriptions of the people and places in the South never fail to paint vivid pictures and touch my heart.
Such a sweet read.
Capote is always brilliant.
This is beautifully written. The imaginary is so lovely it is awesome. A word too over used but perfect for this book. The story itself is rather quirky so read it for the poetry of words
Thoroughly enjoyed.
I have always loved the writing of Truman Capote. His ‘way with words’ is truly unforgettable. His writing puts you in the scene and makes you feel that you understand the characters. It is a very moving book, beautifully written.
One of the best books I ever read!
I did not read all the stories as I lost interest in them. I did enjoy the characters and story in the title story.
Very boring
Folksy charm.
Thoroughly delightful!
