READ THE BLOCKBUSTERS THAT STARTED IT ALL Take it from the top in #1 New York Times bestselling author Sue Grafton’s knockout thrillers that introduced detective Kinsey Millhone-and a hot new attitude-to crime fiction… A IS FOR ALIBI A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A … in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. A twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments, she’s got a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes. If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer-and sharper-than she imagined.
B IS FOR BURGLAR
Although business has been slow lately for P.I. Kinsey Millhone, she’s reluctant to take on the case of locating Beverly Danziger’s sister Elaine Boldt. It’s a small matter that Beverly should be able to handle herself. So why is she enlisting Kinsey’s services? Beverly claims she needs Elaine’s signature on some documents so that she can collect a small inheritance. But the whole affair doesn’t sit well with Kinsey. And if there’s something she’s learned in her line of work, it’s to always follow your instincts…
Things take a turn for the worse when a stranger vandalizes the home of one of Elaine’s neighbors and another neighbor turns up murdered. With her reputation and career on the line, Kinsey risks all to find a missing woman and a killer who’s waiting in the shadows to strike again…
C IS FOR CORPSE
How do you go about solving an attempted murder when the victim has lost a good part of his memory? It’s one of Kinsey’s toughest cases yet, but she never backs down from a challenge. Twenty-three-year-old Bobby Callahan is lucky to be alive after a car forced his Porsche over a bridge and into a canyon. The crash left Bobby with a clouded memory. But he can’t shake the feeling it was no random accident and that he’s still in danger…
As Kinsey digs deeper into her investigation, she discovers Bobby had a secret worth killing for-and unearthing that secret could send Kinsey to her own early death…

Read this book and then you will be hooked! We lost Sue Grafton in December 2017. A superb storyteller.
Kinsey Milhone, the protagonist, is one of my all time favorite characters of modern fiction. She is astute, capable and incredibly funny, while showing a real person’s weaknesses. The writing is witty with a dash of snark and the other characters are as fully developed and nuanced as Kinsey. I’ve read every single book in the series and wish for …
Excellent start to a wonderfully entertaining series.
I started with A and followed Sue to Y. Fabulous books. Any of her books stand on their own.
The 1st book in the alphabet series got me hooked and I have now read them all
I love ANYTHING by Sue Grafton!!!!!
I have read the entire Alphabet series from Sue Grafton. They are great.
I recently finished reading this book…for about the 4th time! Excellent.
Sue is always good. I have read most of her books. It has been a long time since I read this one, but they are easy to read with a strong heroine and good plots. Not really formula books, not to graphic either.
Excellent read with amazing characters. Keeps reader interested from beginning to end.
Highly recommend the entire alphabet series
I thought some of these original books from the series were the most entertaining.
I have read this entire series – twice. I thoroughly enjoyed each one.
I read this when I was HS age, so years ago, but I remember being captivated from the beginning of the story.
I have read almost all of Grafton’s books and loved them all, characters are great, plot always interesting!
I have read every book in this alphabetical series. Enjoyed every single one. Can”t put down books.
Sue Grafton’s first Kinsey book – she started off strong and just kept getting better! I own every single one of the series. They’re so well-written that it’s fun to start again with A and read my way through the series. Also Judy Kaye does fabulous audio versions!
Loved all of her books. She will be missed by all of us fans.
The best ever first book in a series. Grafton has provided the most wonderful characters in this book and in all the following offering in this alphabet series. We waited with great anticipation for the next and the next and… This is the introduction to the quirky characters that continue to enhance each novel. Read them all and am starting …
Sue Grafton is one of my favorite writers. I will read anything she writes.
