Cathryn Blankenship has no desire for a Season in London! Why on earth would her father want her to leave her home in Charles Town? Upon Cathryn’s steadfast refusal, Governor Blankenship is forced to assign a young lieutenant to watch over Cathryn on the journey and ensure his daughter’s appearance in London. Cathryn finds Lieutenant Jake Pennington the most aggravating, maddening man she has … ever met-a man Cathryn soon admits she is in no hurry to see leave.
But fate has other plans for her in a world she is ill prepared to enter. She descends into a place where love and betrayal go hand and hand, where greed and treachery are second nature, but moreover the threat her father believes he has sent her is awaiting her arrival. When fate tears her apart from her Lieutenant, Cathryn finds herself desolate and alone. Soon, Cathryn makes a fateful decision that will send her back to a home far different than the one she left.
A war rages. Soon, she discovers her life is in danger and the only one that can save her is the one who left her heartbroken.

Could not put this book down. Addictive!
This book has so many surprises. I read it in one sitting. I had to pull out the tissues at one point. Fabulous story with multiple heroes and villains.
Book full of unexpected events, very interesting characters, full of action to the end. Luckily, has a happy ending.
Get ready for lots of action, not always the good one!
Good story..although could have used better editing
The plot, the characters, the fit to history: all were very good. I didn’t give it a 5 star rating because whoever edited this needs to have more than a third grade education! I found myself rereading portions because the wording was awkward. There might have been extra words added, or words left out. There were phrases with inverted words or a word inserted before or after the sentence! Great story, clumsy editing!
Better than I expected
Easy to read.Had a bit of romance, mystery,
This book needs a good editor. There are numerous errors in syntax, structure and there are even parts where the same pieces of the story are duplicated in the subsequent pages. It could be entertaining if it was corrected and tightened up.
This one just didn’t hold my interest. I think maybe because the main character was very immature and silly. I think I only made it through 2 chapters.
This book had so many turns and episodes of tragic circumstances that it kept your
interest. True that war is “hell” and these characters went through so much of it.
They were very strong to endure all and come out with a degree of happiness!
a must for your summer reads!
I love the background in history and the characters were made real and exciting. Good job it held my interest to the end and wanting more.
Thx
The heroine of this book was spoiled, willful, temperamental and totally unlikable. The author didn’t allow the character to grow, to mature, to learn from her mistakes. It was all about me, me, me, poor me. Couple that with poor sentence structure, nonsensical sentences and horrible editing and you end up with a boring quagmire of unlikable characters. Don’t waste your time or your money on this one.
Very good, just took a long time to finish and wrap up the whole book.
Well done characters.
I had a hard time putting this book down. It was captivating. Fast paced. The story was believable. I enjoyed the history included into the story. I would definitely recommend this book.
I couldn’t even get past the first couple chapters of this book. The main character is portrayed as a moron, but with a good heart. Ok, fine, but throw in hardly any character development, a main character who never learns her lesson, and some pretty horrific events and you have a pretty terrible historic romance.
Full of formatting errors and the characters were painfully lacking in development. The main character was obnoxiously immature and melodramatic, the rest just came across as shallow. However, with the help of a good editor this has promise.
Loved the history and mystery….couldn’t put it down.
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. One of those you can’t put down until you’re finished.
A must read! Makes you think of Gone with the Wind…except the American Revolution.
