A traditional Regency romance, drawing room rather than bedroom. When Mr Edmund Winterton of Woodside dies, his daughters find themselves penniless and homeless. What can they do? Unless they wish to live on charity, they will have to find genteel employment for themselves.Annabelle becomes governess to the daughters of the recently bereaved Earl of Brackenwood. She has no idea how to teach, but … how to teach, but her pupils can learn all they need from books, so how difficult can it be? She’ll need all her ingenuity to cope with the rebelliousness of her charges, and the unwanted attentions of their father. But when her past returns to haunt her, she has to make a difficult decision.
Allan is slowly getting used to life as a widower, but his mother is determined that he must marry again and produce an heir. He is determined that he won’t, although the new governess is just the sort of woman he could fall in love with. But when a face from long ago reappears and stirs up suspicion, he has to consider the possibility that his wife’s death was not natural. What is worse, he himself is the obvious suspect. If he can’t prove his innocence, he may lose everything – his home, his new love and even his life.
Book 1 of the 5-book Sisters of Woodside Mysteries series, each a complete story with a HEA, but read all of them to find out all the family secrets!

For me, this is one of those books that you keep reading because you can’t wait to see how it ends but at the same time, you don’t want the story to end. I enjoyed reading this story and am now curious about the others in the series.
Makes you want to see wht happens to all the sisters.
interesting enough that I would read others by this author
Loved this mystery love story
Loved this book.
Enjoyed the characters and action.
Good story and no yucky sex to wade through.
it was a mixture of Jane Eyre & Pride and Prejudice, WOW what a great read, looking forward in reading about the other 3 sisters
Great “holiday by the fire” read. All the characters were so believable and the book was full of twists and turns to the very end. It was also informative learning about the royal hierarchy. I sincerely enjoyed this book!
A lovely bit of fluff for long winter evenings.
Loved this book.
Liked it easy entertaining read
Nice story.
I really enjoyed this book and am on the rest of the series!
I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
characters open and honest. Story has mystery, as well as romance. And of course a happy ending!
Really enjoyed this book. Wonderful story line and characters.
Really good story I think…. I did enjoy and I am looking forward to the next one.
This book is so evocative of Georgette Heyer I felt like I had found a new one of her books. The characters were true to the era and the conflict and resolution were really true to the regency genre.
A very quaint story. A few twists and turns as a murder is investigated and the governess and earl fall in love. I thought, however, that the story progressed rather slowly. Still, I am interested to read about the other sisters and how they fare in comparison.
