Autumn Chase is painfully aware grief is a beast that won’t be chased off before it’s ready to leave. When an icy road and a dark night leave her a young widow, she’s forced to trade in her perfectly planned future for the unknown. Like a child hiding from a monster, she pulls her covers up over her head with the intention of sheltering herself forever. But once an unexpected stranger shows up … up on her doorstep, Autumn has to choose between being alone or connecting with someone who is hurting as badly as she is.
Noah Key, an emergency room doctor, has solemnly informed countless families that their loved one could not be saved. However, when his own wife dies suddenly there are no words to bring him comfort. His in-laws want him to fall to pieces to confirm his love for his late wife. His colleagues want him to take time off to grieve. The only thing Noah wants is to work enough hours in the day to forget his wife is gone. He’s written himself a prescription for a cocktail of distraction and exhaustion in order to trick his brain into thinking his life isn’t in shambles.
When the world keeps moving on without them, Noah and Autumn will need to decide if they’ll survive the storm or allow themselves to be swept away by it.

A beautiful book with many layers
This was a great story with a lot of emotion and depth. The characters were well developed and interesting. This book is part of a series but can be read independently.
Absolutely loved this book and it’s characters. It made me feel like I was right there with them. Even though I have never been in a tragic situation like them, my heart went out to them. I would most likely react just like Autumn. Thank you for a great book.
A deadly car crash begins The Goodbye Storm and author, Danielle Stewart’s expressive writing describes the all consuming grief of the two survivors.
Each battles every day as in a storm, being rained on constantly, one finds two umbrellas that help, but the other loses all.
Get this book! experience their struggles with Ms. Stewart’s eloquent and tragically realistic writing style.
An excellent goodread! Storms don’t last forever!
This is a great book. Especially if you’ve ever deeply grieved for someone. I love the line “everyone grieves differently”, so true. The umbrella analogy is so great!
Realistic portrayal of how different people respond to experiencing the same tragedy. One eventually seeks help through interacting with others. Another isolates, escapes through work, drugs, and alcohol. Will the one on the mend be able to save the one with no will to live?
I enjoyed reading this book, was very realistic in how we all handle grief differently.
This book grips your heart. Sometimes grief swallows you whole but there is always a helping hand to pull you up
Am now reading the third book in the series. After the first book you have to find out if there is peace and happiness for all the characters.
Wow !! An emotional read. The subject of ‘sudden loss by a traumatic accident’ is heart wrenching. I pray dear author Danielle that you’re not writing from experience. You brought me to a heightened level of understanding such grief. And, how condolences can be all over the board when given and received. Great Story
This book didn’t have the ending I was expecting but a good book.
I can’t imagine dealing with this amount of grief. A great story. Well thought out. Great storyline. Some sad-some happy. Will definitely look for more books by this author.
It never hurts to be reminded of how grief affects . All kinds of grief…lost love, lost family, lost chances for happiness. It is a common point of human lives.
This book tells how it is when you loose someone you love, the bad days that slowly get better, ups and downs without becoming depressing. Great characters, good read!
This one had me scratching my head. Autumn kept everyone at a distance. The angst kept up throughout. Kept seeing the book dwindle without much movement or closure. Then all of a sudden she decides to move forward and start to date one of the characters. Until that point I wasn’t even sure she liked him. I’d say character and plot development was sorely lacking. Not even sure why Noah was in the story except to maybe show how one event can affect so many.
Too many f bombs
An interesting story of heartbreak and redemption. Disappointed in language.
It’s a good account of a woman going through grief. But I really couldn’t buy into the love story.
It was different.
I didn’t care for it.
