Amazon Charts bestselling authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke make their suspense debut in this twisty, emotional thriller.Elementary school teacher Jacqueline “Jacks” Morales’s marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable, familiar. Or at least she thought it was…until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, … of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn’t alone.
For Jacks, laying her husband to rest was hard. But it was even harder to think that his final moments belonged to another woman—one who had left behind her own grieving and bewildered fiancé. Nick, just as blindsided by the affair, wants answers. So he suggests that he and Jacks search for the truth together, retracing the doomed lovers’ last days in paradise.
Now, following the twisting path of that fateful road, Jacks is learning that nothing is ever as it seems. Not her marriage. Not her husband. And most certainly not his death…

I’ve had this stellar suspense by Lisa and Liz on my TBR for ages. I have several of their books from Thrillerfest, but I wanted to go to the beginning of their suspense journey, and boy am I glad I did. I totally missed the twist coming, which I attribute not to sloppy reading on my part but a subtle, insidious plot device on theirs. So bravo!
This was a fantastic story from two authors who successfully leaped genres with The Good Widow. There were undertones in the book that were so subtle that I kept second-guessing my own instincts about it. Back and forth emotions and assumptions are powerful tools to draw me into a story. It also didn’t hurt that it took place on the beautiful island of Maui. I hope the authors continue with more suspense, as I will definitely read more of what they write.
This is a great book. A cheating husband, a trusting wife , a jealous boyfriend, and a surprise ending I think you’ll like.
Gorgeously emotional and deftly written, this beautiful suspense story is a perfect summer read with twists and turns and a profoundly shocking ending. A wonderful mix of suspense and family drama that will keep you riveted throughout.
Really enjoyed this book! Made me examine the “stories” I tell myself!! Highly recommend reading!!!
This was such a great story. I loved the characters and felt bad for them, especially those left behind with so many questions. It was a very complex story of how they got there, from different perspectives and resolves in an interesting way. I would definitely recommend The Good Widow.
A fast-paced page turner that has wonderful characters and plot. There are lots of twists and turns as well as great emotions between the characters. I loved it.
This was a good story. I wouldn’t say this was a heart pounding thriller, because the twist doesn’t come until the very end. Up until then, I thought this was just a regular fictional work. Jacks finds out her husband, James, dies in Maui, while he is supposed to be on a business trip to Kansas. Then she finds out he was with another woman, Dylan. Then she finds out that woman was engaged to Nick. Nick asks Jacks to go to Maui to piece together James and Dylan’s relationship and follow in their final footsteps. Overall a solid story.
“I pushed the guilt away. There was still a chance. I could get pregnant from today’s quick, condomless sex, so I let my hope be stronger than my fear.”
There was a whole lot of guilt going on in this book, which I didn’t completely understand, but it did make for a fast-paced and adequately fueled tragedy. Losing your significant other is never easy, but when it’s also paired with adultery, it can make you question everything you think you know.
The Good Widow was a solid suspense novel but I have to admit as much as I enjoyed it, it was a bit predictable. When everything is moving along as expected, even looking like it’s going to wrap up, yet there’s still a good fifth of the book left, you start looking for the twist. I had it figured out pretty early, but it was still interesting as we followed in the footsteps of James and Dylan and got to the inevitable creepy reveal.
The unexpected twists at the end made the book so much better! I really enjoyed this book and seeing the narrative unfold.
I think this book needs further development. Would like to see more clues build up to the twists in the plot
I could not understand why it was considered a thriller it is pretty much out devastating love story until the last chapter and then I got a little creepy husband and mistress went to Hawaii and the boyfriend and the Widow fell in love
Enjoyable beach read!
This book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Great originality, extreme intensity! A MUST READ for fans of psychological thriller s! Don’t skip this incredible read! I absolutely loved this book!
I almost quit reading this book because it seemed so predictable the first 50 pages. I decided to continue and am so happy I did. WOW/ I won’t give the plot away but it is quite a different ending than I thought. It’s not a happy-ever-after type but more of a “I didn’t see that coming.”
Very well written. Love the way the story of 2 women are woven together. I wanted the story to continue on.
This was a great read. It features Jacqueline (Jacks) who recently lost her husband of 8 years. Lots of twists and turns with this one and an ending that took me by surprise. My favorite secondary character is Jacks sister.
This novel keep me riveted to the book day and night
Sorry it ended
This book had me in its grip from the very beginning! I’m a “Good Widow” and can relate to so many emotions in this book and how I possibly could have been sucked into something like this. Glad I wasn’t and this is just a story! A good one that kept me gasping at the edge of my seat!
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.
