A desperate widow in need of a helping hand… even a cybernetic one.Hattie came to Mars with high hopes. I was a bit hesitant to read this book and quiet frankly I had little hope for being able to finish the book. I was super surprised that not only did I finish the book but I did so in one sitting- ONE SITTING! Even though this alien planet/cyborg book has plenty of wild west elements (think cowboys, sheriffs, bandits, guns) it was mostly a backdrop to the main story…. a cyborg on an alien planet wooing his human mate. Morgan or M-231, is a cyborg who has been toiling away in Mars. He is a ranger and as such is employed by the Earth government. Hattie is a human woman who comes to Mars to explore a new frontier since she has nothing left on Earth after her mother’s passing. She comes to Mars ready to work and build a new life when suddenly she finds her simple farming existence in danger because GenCon, a big Earth corporation, has set its eyes on her plot of land. Morgan comes in as an unexpected hero, one that has been silently waiting for his opportunity to approach Hattie and be as close as a cyborg can be to a human. Their story is thrilling with some suspense making it a completely captivating tale. And the sizzling heated scenes were to sweat for!

This well-written book 1 in the “Cyborgs on Mars Series” that has great characters with depth and history. These characters have chemistry and you feel as if you know them. The story is good and I cannot wait until I see more books from this author. All the books I have read from this Author so far are very good. Must read

great read
*WARNING* story contains explicit sexual content
This isn’t what I expected when I read “on Mars”, but I can’t say I was disappointed either. Hattie is one of those “glass half full” type characters and that is usually annoying, but her character struggles, it makes her character more realistic. My curiosity is burning to hear what the story is on the Judge, but Morgan’s story was just sad. I found the whole story interesting. The characters are great with completely different personalities. The story answered enough questions to close for Hattie and Morgan, but also left some unanswered. I am super curious about GenCon
Enjoyed the world-building of how Mars might be terra-formed. It felt very realistic. Good story and characters, too! Great cyborgs in this story.
An easy to read, quick-paced addiction, Hattie and Morgan were certainly worth losing some sleep over. What seems to start off as a partnership of convenience soon turns into more, and the story is beautiful. Hattie needs Morgan but he needs her just as much. The story grows steadily, beginning with a fantastic story about settling on Mars that morphs into an intriguing mystery that runs the same race with the developing love story. I read this in one sitting, it was hard to put down once I started it! I hope there will be more coming in this storyline. Maybe Cherry and the Judge? Who knows? On top of that, I’m dying to know what’s going to come of Hattie and Morgan’s new neighbors!
Is it wrong that I wanna be a settler on Mars and have my own Cyborg Cowboy?? I mean I could grow lichen and such, lol.
This is a great new world Honey Phillip’s has created, she always makes me want to live there or at least visit and steal me a hottie!!!
Hattie and Morgan are both damaged by their pasts and neither were expecting the other, fate has a way of working out in the end!
I’m already wanting to see what happens with the supporting characters, The Judge, The Madam……this is just like an updated Westworld, lol.
Love it and be waiting for more!
If you haven’t read the prequel (High Plains Cyborg), stop right now and grab it! You’ll thank me for that later.
Harriet’s mother has died, and she’s in a bind over her apartment. Since she was adopted, the twisted rules of inheritance stop her from keeping it. Earth’s overcrowding and high prices mean she will be out on the street within the month. Fortunately, her manager comes to her rescue. He has to go to Mars on business and needs a wife to go along. She agrees because she trusts him after all the years of knowing and working with him. Unfortunately, things don’t work out as planned.
M-231 is one of the cyborg marshalls keeping the peace on Mars, and cyborg or not, at his first look, he falls for Harriet. When she needs help claiming her land, he steps up to help.
This is an exciting tale full of adventure, sweetness and danger. Enjoy!
Loved it
I have to say, I grew up on “spaghetti westerns” (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of the first movies I can recall seeing). I also loved Firefly (the series), there is something very real showing new settlements being similar to the old west. This series, Cyborgs on Mars brings me all of those warm and fuzzy feelings for these reasons. The characters are well written with plots that bring to mind those childhood memories. If you are a fan of the above (Firefly or old westerns) or even the first Star Wars, you will love these books. The Good, the Bad and the Cyborg is another on the ‘must ready list from me. Enjoy!
I’m so happy Honey Phillips decided to write cyborgs! The Good, the Bad, and the Cyborg is book 1 in the Cyborgs on Mars series. Being a fan of old westerns, I love the titles of these. Have you seen Lost in Space on Netflix? I imagined the setting on Mars very similar to that. I was immediately drawn in by Hattie’s desperate plight. She lost her husband and was going to have to give up her claim if she didn’t find a partner. She would have lost all of her hard work. Morgan had been waiting for just such an opportunity with Hattie. (He had been watching her since she arrived on Mars.) I love how possessive he is right from the start of their partnership. Morgan is one growly and sexy cyborg. And this book brings the steam! Chapter 12 will be known as “the bath” chapter. You WILL want to read it! I also really loved Morgan’s cyborg horse. Hattie affectionately names him Ghost. There’s some hints that he may actually be sentient which is very cool. A couple cyborgs I’m really interested in seeing a story on are the Judge and young Bill. I’m def looking forward to more in this series!
I had the pleasure of beta reading this story and I just loved it! The cover and everything about The Good, the Bad, and the Cyborg is WOW! Laurann Dohner started my love for cyborgs and Honey Phillips artfully continues it. Hattie and Morgan get 5 stars
With cyborgs on Mars – where I want to be!
Yes, Mars definitely has both the good and the bad. As for the cyborgs – they’re the best! Harriet’s dismal beginnings have not suppressed her enthusiasm for a new start on Mars. She’s well prepared; studied hard, worked hard, and the claim is prospering. She is brimming with entrepreneurial ideas that I’d love to see come to fruition. Faced with another of those bad guys, Ranger M-231 comes to her rescue. Yes, one sexy cyborg is just what the doctor ordered. Morgan (M-231) and his horse, Ghost, gallop away with my heart as well as Hattie’s.
This book introduces a number characters in whom I’m interested. Hopefully, their stories will be right around the corner. I am concerned, though about GenCon’s dastardly plans.
A previous Amazon reviewer had it right. It’s quite pedestrian…
This book left me… meh. I know one can’t expect Book One of a new series to be awesome and mesmerizing because it must establish its world-building, character development, and generalized “getting to know you”. But most of that had been done in High Plains Cyborg (Book 0), and that was just novella-length! One shouldn’t expect a novella to establish that much… but it did. And I really thought Book 0 did a ton of work for being novella-length.
I think more time was devoted to foreplay and sex rather than intimacy and relationship-building… or just plain ol’ storytelling. After a while, especially after Book 0, I was getting bored with these sections that I was skipping over them… and that was quite a lot. What was left over was anemic at best which is really a crying shame because so much could have been done with this plot line!
I am still amazed on how many people think titanium is the universe’s strongest metal. Nope, it isn’t. Less weight is needed to meet the same strength perimeters needed for… whatever, but that does NOT mean it is strong. You need less metal (and weight) of titanium than you would need for aluminum or stainless steel which is why it is often used in the aerospace industry. But to give you an idea of what a flimsy metal titanium is, I had bought an eyeglass frames made out of titanium because I am forever breaking my glasses! Three weeks later, the damn things broke, and I only dropped them! If titanium can withstand the trauma meted out by a cyborg, a simple drop of three feet shouldn’t have done so! Check out Wikipedia. Nowhere does it say that titanium is a strong metal of Superman strength! When I read that, I lost total interest in this story, maybe even the entire series. It was a real bummer for a book that wasn’t all that exciting to begin with to be botched by such a newbie research mistake. I’ve taught a class on science fiction world-building, and the whole titanium strength issue is in my top ten most irritating research mistakes… Why? BECAUSE NO ONE RESEARCHED IT! The writer assumed this faulty info was correct rather than just checking it out to be sure. (Just like the erroneous mistakes made in which writers don’t even know where the standard female body parts are and how they work… like where the hymen is. That’s my #1 research pet peeve.) You NEVER rely off of someone else’s researched material because what if that person is wrong?
Considering the length of the story possible, I had expected better “wooing” on behalf of Morgan. It’s not even very well-written instant fated love. There were many possibilities for better embellishment of the main storyline and its various subplots. I liked the concepts of the cyborg horses. I appreciate someone who likes chickens as much as I do. I’m always curious on alternative housing. But the villains are still the same. I know villains can be written to be better, more smarmy, even more slimy.
Read this tale on KU if available. (I can’t tell once I bought these books.) Make your own decision on a purchase. I, myself, would have been happier with KU reading because I’m not certain I would reread Book 1 now.

3 stars – I liked it
Hattie came to Mars with the hope of starting a new life. Instead, everything seems to be falling apart and she might lose her home too if she can’t find someone else to help her. M-231, also known as Morgan, has been entranced with Hattie since she arrived on Mars but has never made a move or talked to her. When he finds out she needs a partner to keep her land he offers to help. Together these two must overcome their pasts, the environment, and a dangerous enemy.
This was a nice quick read. I am really enjoying the concept of this new settlement on Mars with its mixture of western and scifi. Hattie was a smart and resourceful woman and I really liked her. She built and slaved over her land and it shows. Morgan was closed off at first but quickly opened up when he realized Hattie truly cared. She didn’t care that he was a cyborg and saw him only as a man. They had an instant love relationship but I still enjoyed it.
This was just a very interesting world that Phillips has created and I am really enjoying it. I am very curious to see what GenCon is actually doing because clearly it’s something big. Also I can’t wait to learn more about the other cyborgs, especially the grumpy Judge.
