This book…..I’m not even sure where to begin beyond that!! With each page that I read I really thought I knew where things were headed but then I’d turn the page I realize just how wrong I was. There were so many twists and turns happening that I was surprised at every turn. It was suspenseful and exciting and mind blowing.
Harper and Bryant are a young couple who move from Chicago to a quaint southern town where Bryant has accepted a job as a teacher. Their next-door neighbors are slightly older, extremely wealthy, and model perfect.
The Good
I read this book in one day. I was home with a cold and got sucked in from page one. From the get-go, the reader can’t but help being pulled along in the twisted tale of neighbors Harper and Bryant and Tori and Jason. Like a soap opera, there are a plenty of juicy secrets and over the top encounters.
The Bad
Like a train wreck, it’s hard to look away even when the characters make horrendous decisions, and there were plenty of them in this story. Even so, the writing and story keeps you flipping pages wanting to know what’s going to happen next, despite mounting frustration over the actions of all involved. Harper and Bryant are average, everyday people, where Tori and Jason seem as though they stepped off the screen from a 1980’s prime time soap.
The Ugly
I had a hard time swallowing the ending. Far too many puzzle pieces don’t align¬—or at the very least—make sense. I think the author wanted to deliver a bombshell, but rather than feeling shocked, I was left with a sense of incredulity. It’s hard to say more without giving away spoilers, but too many things didn’t add up or were too extreme to swallow.
The Takeaway
I waffled on what rating to give this book given the problems with the plot. But in the end, it kept me glued to the pages and rapidly reading to reach the finish. The entertainment value warrants 5 stars, the plot 3. Therefore, I give The Good Neighbors 4 stars, and note that I would read this author again with that hopes that plot and entertainment meet in a solid middle.
The Good Neighbors
By: Kiersten Modglin
5 out of 5 stars
The story The Good Neighbors by Kiersten Modglin is an amazing psychological thriller that I loved reading. It pulled me in from the very beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat. The book grabbed my attention and didn’t let go until I had finished the final page. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Bryant and Harper Page. They have just purchased and moved to Lancaster Mills. They however find their next-door neighbors a bit strange. They still make an effort to be neighborly and friendly even though their first encounter with their neighbors is anything but a warm welcome. Jason and Tori Fuller seem to be the perfect couple, both in their looks and their home. The Fuller’s also seemed to have secrets. When strange occurrences start to happen at the Page home, Bryan and Harper wonder who could be behind them. Are their neighbors dangerous? What does the future hold for Bryan and Harper? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. It is a book that has emotional dialogue and intense scenes. The way that the author has written the story I felt like I was right there with the characters. This is a story that I would highly recommend reading.
I loved this! I was pulled in right from the start with this story. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. The characters were great, they each had a part and they were well played. Harper and Bryant have a new home and a new start. Then they got to meet their neighbors and things are about to change. Things may not be as they seem, something is off with them. I highly recommend you find out what happens, a must read.
Oh my! What can I say about this book? This story was NOT what I was expecting. Harper and Bryant Page move into a nice older home in a small town. Their first site of the neighbors leaves them rather ‘stand-offish’ of them. Later those same neighbors come to call at their home. Jason and Tori Fuller are model perfect looking people. She is a plastic surgeon, and he is a freelance writer. The house they live in is also perfect! But then, things start happening that makes Harper and Bryant question the move to this small town and each other. Things steamroll and get totally out of hand. You will NOT see this ending coming! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This book! Wow, the ending was totally unforeseen and unpredicted by me.
Kiersten Modglin once again delivers a twist that I didn’t see coming. I’m not sure how she does this so consistently and so well. Her books are unlike any suspense I’ve ever read, but in the best way possible. There is nothing cliche or phoned-in about the way she tells a mystery or suspense story. Her suspense is more intellectual than action packed, and I’ve yet to crack the story before she has to tell me it at the end.
The Good Neighbor starts out so ordinary and with what seem like the most ordinary of newlyweds Harper and Bryant. They are leaving Chicago and moving into their first house in a small town. They are college sweethearts who made the move to support Bryant’s first job as a history teacher at the local high school. Meanwhile, Harper is starting her career, hoping to climb the ladder in hospital management.
They move into their quaint house and immediately meet their seemingly perfect neighbors. Beautiful Tori who is a plastic surgeon and her too-handsome husband Jason, a freelance writer.
Harper has a vibe off them, each in a separate way, that she struggles to understand and articulate. Bryant? He’s intrigued by them and doesn’t see the warning signs that Harper does.
From their first meet… until the end… the meets and events are so well placed… as a reader, you’re just not sure… what the heck is the neighbors story?
Are they good? Bad? Diabolical? Stalkers? Crazy? What?! Honestly, I was so twisted up what the neighbors’ story was, and how it fully intersected with Harper and Bryant.
It’s very hard from here to review the plot of the book without ruining it. Other than… make sure you have a free block of time once you start as you won’t be able to put it down. The tension and pacing is absolutely perfect, and each time I’d go to set the book down… something else would happen that would puzzle or intrigue me, and I’d have to keep reading.
The story is so well told, you are right there with Harper and Bryant trying to understand these neighbors and all the strange incidences that keep happening, but you just can’t fully put them into a full picture. The author did a brilliant job of leaving just the right pieces at the right time.
The end (though I tried to guess it) shocked me! It was NOTHING like I thought it would be! For that thrill alone, I highly recommend this suspenseful, interesting and awesome book!
Imagine this: Newly married and supporting your husband, you move to a new town, buy a house and settle in. You see your new neighbors and are excited to meet them. Why not, it’s safe of course. Well that’s what she thought and it was. Until it wasn’t. What do you do when you have no proof that somethings going on? That something in the milk aint right. The story leaves you happy and at peace but the middle sends you spinning. Who do you trust? What’s real? Who’s the threat? What this author does is spin this story so that you aren’t sure where to look and yet wondering what you will find. Don’t get comfy because this author likes to have you wondering in circles and finding yourself looking in the wrong direction for cover. She even has you questioning yet curious about your own neighbors and the secrets they have. How do you determine if they are good neighbors or . . .
Good neighbors bake you a cake to welcome you into the neighborhood. They offer advice about restaurants and schools, and keep their distance when you are trying to unpack and unwind. They don’t have ulterior motives, they don’t plot diabolical schemes or act inappropriately seductive. In the case of “The Good Neighbors”, I never knew what would come next which prompted me to read the entire book during a rainy and dark afternoon because I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t wait to find out who would be affected by the next vengeful act, because the characters were intriguing and their interactions resulted in surprising revelations about all involved.
Kiersten Modglin definitely knows how to grab our attention with her suspenseful and mysterious storylines as she weaves a tale of deception, betrayal and deceit. As with all of her books, she surprised me with each page I turned and kept me guessing until the very end I always wished her books would keep going because I get so wrapped up in the story and love the book so much, that I just need more!!
Everything I expected did not happen. Every page was unexpected. Loved it.
I enjoyed reading this book. Beware of perfect neighbors!
The characters in this book will have you not only loving them but hating them at the same time. The neighbors are trippy and will leave you guessing. I loved this read and can not wait to read more by this author. I highly recommend!
This book is a page-turner and Kiersten did an amazing job with this book. From the very first page, it keeps the readers hooked, wanting to know more. Who are these neighbors? What do they want from Bryant and Harper? Why are they so secretive and mysterious? What are they hiding?! I highly recommend this book.

The Good Neighbors by Kiersten Modglin
The Good Neighbors by Kiersten Modglin is a wonderfully written psychological thriller that will pull you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end. This story will definitely have you on the edge of your seat. Just when I thought I had it figured out nope another twist. I caught myself shaking my damn head while silently cussing. What the Holy Hell. I couldn’t put it down till I finished and my gosh the ending I didn’t see coming. Harper and Bryant, they are in a new town, with a new house and new jobs and the neighbors. Their first encounter with the neighbors was a bit strange to say the least. What secrets are the Fuller’s hiding? Find out what happens next in this suspenseful must read.Im definitely going to be reading more from this Author.
The Good Neighbors is a messed up book, but in the best possible way! It is the first book I have read by Kiersten Modglin, but it wont be the last. The story as well as her writing had me not wanting to put the book down. I finished it in less than 24 hours, and was guessing until the very end. It was full of suspense and mystery, leaving you wondering who the good guys are. The book didn’t end the way I expected it to, and I now want to re read it, knowing what we learn at the end. Are the neighbors next door just too good to be true? They are both attractive, with great jobs, and an amazing home. But, shortly after moving in next door to them, strange things begin to happen. Those strange things soon turn creepy and leave you wondering if they are friend, or enemy. I don’t want to give anything away, but I highly recommend the book!

5-Stars
The Good Neighbors was an exciting thriller. This book kept me at the edge of my seat. I loved Bryant and Harper’s characters. They were easy to fall in love with. I also enjoyed Tori and Jay’s characters as well although they were not my most favorite. The author did an amazing job with all her character development and was very detailed with her settings. I found it easy to picture every scene. This is the first book I have read by this author. I was very impressed with this psychological thriller and will definitely be looking into more of her books. I really enjoyed this one and felt that it was an easy read. I highly recommend it.
The Good Neighbors by Kiersten Modglin is a suspenseful book and has you trying to figure out what’s going on until the very end. I know I was certainly trying to figure it out.
I will admit that I’m a little weird when it comes to my non romance books, I can’t do the psychological thriller/suspenseful books without it freaking me out. This had a little bit of the psychological but it wasn’t twisted like some I have tried reading.
Harper and Bryant’s relationship with the neighbors was an interesting one that’s for sure. Two young couples close to the same age should become friends, but it may not always be the best thing for any of the parties involved.
Ms. Modglin is a new to me author but I did see she has released some others. I fully intend to take a look and see if she can grab me once again, I hope she is successful.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I loved it. Its very different from what I’ve been reading lately but it took me back to the kind of books that got me back to reading years ago.
To say this book has twists and turns that weren’t expected is an understatement. I love that this book gave me a creepy vibe but it kept me glued to the pages until the very end.
Harper and Bryant move to this small town and meet neighbors that seem to be perfect but things always aren’t what they seem to be. They start questioning everything about their life and themselves!
Amazing read! If you like to be kept on your toes then this should definitely be a one-click for you!
Holy Hell! What can I say about The Good Neighbors by Kiersten Modglin? Wow! This psychological thriller will drag you through the wringer. It will grab you from the very first page and take you on a tour through every emotion possible before spitting you out at the end wondering what the hell happened.
When newlyweds Bryant and Harper Page move to Lancaster Mills to start new jobs in their new careers, with their dream house they thought that their new life was perfect. That was until they met the beautiful couple next door Jason and Tori Fuller and then everything they dreamed and hoped for came crashing around them. Strange events start happening and all seems to be due to the strange couple next door. Are Tori and Jason hiding something? Are they the culprits of all the strange events that are happening?
The author throws so many curveballs at you and takes the story in a direction you definitely never saw coming. Even though the story is told in dual POV from Bryant and Harper, you are still left shocked and stunned at how this story unfolds.
If you like a good psychological thriller then The Good Neighbors is definitely the book for you. I loved this book and will definitely be checking out more of this author’s work.
