From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Haleigh Lovell, comes a new romantic comedy.“You must pick up this series if you know what’s good for you.” ~ B. Wise, Amazon Top 1K ReviewerShe is a good time—trouble, but fun. And I’m here for a good time, not a long time.So let the good times roll.“You’re a bad idea.”“But…” she ventured.“But I like bad ideas.”We don’t make mistakes, … like bad ideas.”
We don’t make mistakes, right? Just happy little accidents. At least that’s what Bob Ross said. And my dad. Yep, he says that, too. Every year, on my birthday, he reminds me I’m a ‘happy little accident’ because the condom broke.
But, hey! Wasn’t the creation of penicillin a happy accident that resulted from the discovery of mold growing in an agar dish?
And while that accidental discovery changed the course of medicine, Lucy changed the course of my life. Like a staph infection that somehow turns into an abscess that takes over your limbs, Lucy took over my heart—quickly, painfully, unexpectedly, but treatable with antibiotics.
Bold, brash and unapologetically herself, Lucy represents anarchy from women I typically dated.
She is my ‘Beautiful Oops.’
Lucy Lawless is my good mistake.
Note: THE GOOD MISTAKE is a full-length novel packed with humor and heart. It’s Book 3 in the Hemsworth Brothers series (Book 2 is currently free for a limited time) but it can also be read as a standalone.

This is the first book I have read by the author and she has a refreshing writing style that really shows off her characters and storyline. It is the third book in the Hemsworth Brothers series and it can be read as a standalone. It was just supposed to be a “relationship” to placate two busybody friends. Edric is a former tennis pro turned venture capitalist who has had his fair share of relationships with women who were really not suited for him. So, he is set up by his friends to meet Lucy, a woman who loves horses. No two people could be more opposite but you know they say that opposites attract. However, the longer Edric and Lucy spend time together are they really so different? This is one storyline that will have any reader laughing so hard as Edric and Lucy banter back and forth. Watching the relationship develop between them will bring you tears. Prepare to get swept away. This is one book that will stay with you after it ends. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading more from this author.
I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
I had a wonderful time reading the first two books on this series, The Slam and The Foreplay. I actually developed a bit of a crush on Adelaide….and yes on Ender as well 😛
This third book is about Edric, Ender’s brother and of course I had to read it and witness his HEA. I was also very curious to know if his book was gonna be as funny as his brother’s was. I am very glad to report that it most definitely was 😛 If you haven’t read the first two books…no worries because this one can be read as a stand-alone.
Now as much as I laughed my ass off, there were also more serious moments in this book, so there is a bit of a balance. That said, I do believe this falls under the whole rom-com genre.
I myself am also a big fan of the “fake relationship” trope. Edric and Lucy start out as a fake couple but it doesn’t take too long before the lines between fake an real are blurring.
These two had some major chemistry going on which means there were also some very nice and sexy moments.
I knew Edric would be just as awesome as Ender…so now I am in love with both brothers… and their girlfriends 😛
An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review
This was the first time I have read this author and I am happy that I found her. This was a true rom com. I was smiling the whole time I was reading this book. It had some many laugh out loud moments. Lucy and Edric were perfect for each other. The banter between them was amazing. They had great chemsity. I really liked this book. If you are looking for a great book with all the feels, then this is the book for you. I can’t wait to read more from Haleigh.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
Five Funny Stars!
This was my first book by Haleigh Lovell and it definitely will not be my last one. I enjoyed this book so much. This book was every single thing I love about romance. Great story line. Funny banter between the hero and heroine. Lots of emotions. And a happily ever after that will make you smile.
This starts out as a fake romance but it grows into something so much more. These two fit each other, they are actually perfect for each other even though they are complete opposites. And we follow as these two pretend to be together and we watch as they grow into their relationship. You’ll laugh out loud, you’ll swoon and you will fall in love with Lucy and Edric. They support each other and are there for each other when the time comes.
I would highly recommend this book!

*I was given an advanced free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.*
I really enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud throughout at Edric and Lucy’s banter. I also felt and understood the decision Lucy made and why. Through it all though, there was honesty, humor, serious moments, candor, and acceptance. I really liked this story very much!
I loved Edric and Lucy’s banter. They truly got each other’s humor. The last part of the book was more serious and I enjoyed just as much as the first even with the emotional rollercoaster. It dealt with a serious issue and all the little details that come with it (personal hygiene, aftermath, etc.). This was my first by this author and I would love to get my hands on the first two in this series.
The Good Mistake is beyond fabulous! This rom-com is full of laugh out loud moments. dric and Lucy are the embodiment of sarcastic humor, and one of the best couples ever! The Good Mistake is a must read. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed this much during a book.
I don’t know who I loved more in this book, Lucy or Edric. I want to be Lucy’s best friend. She is witty, scarily smart, a hilarious drunk, and smoking hot. And Edric is basically every girl’s dream book boyfriend. Wonderfully sexy, smart but not annoyingly so, a dash of arrogance, caring, intuitive, and not afraid of his feminine side. When you put Lucy and Edric together what you get are two very different people but, also similar in many ways. The back and forth and the amusing dialogue between the two is pure magic. Also, of course, as in all of Ms. Lovell’s books, the chemistry between our two lovers is steamy and erotic. Best of all, Lucy and Eric share that unforeseen love, that creeps up on you in the most spectacular way and grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go.
If you want a book to make you literally laugh out loud this is your book! I cannot wait to go back and read the rest of the books in this series. 5 stars all the way for Haleigh Lovell!
I loved Edric and Lucy so much! Their witty banter was my absolute favorite. I laughed throughout almost this whole book.
I thought Ender and Adelaide were my favorite but Edric and Lucy were everything! They were adorable, they never hid their weirdness from each other from the beginning and it was everything.
I enjoyed seeing them both grow and learn together. They were so enthralling. This book is well worth reading.
Oh boy, how I loved these two and their story! They each have a need – Lucy needs Edric’s barn for her man and Edric’s needs Lucy to keep his friends off his back. This plan of a fake relationship grows into so much more. I loved reading how these two strangers that are the female and male version of each other grow into a friendship that is so strong. Soon their need is more than the arrangement. I laughed so much, I was sure my husband thought I was losing my marbles. I cried and I swooned. This book is a touching story that will hold a special place in my heart. Heleigh’s books have never disappointed me. I love her writing style, her great characters and the stories she creates!
The Good Mistake by Haleigh Lovell is a sweet, fake relationship that turns friends to lovers’ story. It is the third book in the Hemsworth brothers’ series that you can read as a standalone. Since this is the first book for me in the series, I can confirm the book stands on its own.
Lucy needs a place for her horse, and Edric has some grazing land and a barn. Edric is tired of people questioning his love life. In return for the use of his barn, Lucy agrees to be his pretend girlfriend. The more time they spend together, the closer these two become until they don’t want to fake the relationship anymore.
I like these characters. They are funny, strong, supportive, and work together. It isn’t a stretch to say that I would like friends like Edric and Lucy in my life. The characters are so nicely developed that I can’t help but want them their relationship to succeed. The funny scenes are entertaining and are spread throughout the story. The Good Mistake isn’t all laughs though. There are some beautiful, tender, and emotional moments to make the story so very heartwarming.
The Good Mistake is the first book that I’ve read by Haleigh Lovell. Her story-telling skills are well rounded. I recommend this book to anyone who needs a good romantic comedy to brighten their day. I enjoyed this story enough to check out the other books in this series.
This is one of those books that I call a gem. You never know what your going to get when you read it. This is that book because you put two people who are opposites and put them together and WHAM you get some serious chemistry between them.
Edric thinks he is all that and then some but he is really this sweet and loving guy who just wants to settle down and have a nice girl to enjoy his time with. That is when he meets Lucy and she blows his mind. These two have good times as well as some sad times but through it all they stuck together and that is what I loved about this story. Plus there are some serious swoon worthy moments that will have you tearing up.
So go out and get this amazing romance that will blow your mind!
4 Cranky Stars
This was a laugh out loud book and it was just what I needed. I mean what could possibly go wrong when two sarcastic goofballs make an agreement that they’ll fake date to get his friends off his back and give her horse a place to live and graze in a field? Pandemonium and lots of laughs is what.
Lucy is a down on her luck nurse. She left her comfortable life in Wisconsin behind and moved to California for her career. Only problem is she comes with a horse named Gouda and boarding isn’t cheap. When she answers the message on a farmersonly.com site she knows that Edric is her ticket to horse pasture heaven. They meet and decide that they will do this but they can’t fall in love with each other that it’s just a means to an end. She didn’t expect to meet the male version of her and to fall hard. Yet her life isn’t all about a horse and a snarky boy it’s about facing problems bigger than her.
Edric hasn’t had much luck in the dating pool. I guess that’s what happens when you only date vapid, money hungry Instagram models. His friends decide to set him up on several dating profiles with no luck so their last ditch effort was a farming site. Edric is a rich city guy and has had a bad experience with a horse girl at one point but he goes anyway. What he meets is this larger than life woman who is like him in every way. He knows making this deal with her will be easy and get his friends off his back. He finds himself spending every day with Lucy and getting used to her horse. He didn’t expect his heart to become involved and he didn’t think he’d ever find himself volunteering to help her in the months to come.
I really liked the banter between Lucy and Edric. It reminded me of me and my husband at times. She was this loud personality and she was like the sun. Edric was a good egg. Minus the fact that he spent most of his time in his mansion in sweatpants he seemed to know what’s up. Two things that kind of made me kind of not like the book was the overuse of current slang. Maybe that’s just who they are and I’m old. Ok so yeah I’m old but still I wasn’t sure how old these characters should have been to be talking like this. Also the sex scenes that went on for pages and pages. I guess I’m a less is more person but hey you do you. I didn’t read the first two books about Adelaide and Ender so I certainly want to read those. If you are looking for a laugh out loud romantic book full of steam then read this book!!!
Edric and Lucy were a sweet, funny couple. The two were from different worlds but managed to come together. A fake relationship that turns into so much more. A rom-com not to be missed.
I laughed so hard – I snorted!
“He was a cranky, curmudgeonly fusspot who loved complaining for the sake of complaining.” – Lucy
Edric had it all. Fame. Fortune. Good Looks. A wonderful sense of humor, though at times it was a bit off key. What he didn’t have was luck with relationships. But never fear he had that covered, or should I say his alter ego did. Who doesn’t love a country boy?
Lucy was his match in all ways. She loved the same genres. Shared the same off-key sense of humor. And they both needed something the other could provide. Together they formulated a plan. It was foolproof.
It was perfect!
The story line was easy to follow and unquestionably kept my attention. There was just the right touch of angst added to tug at the heartstrings while not dampening the magic that was them. The supporting cast was the perfect succor for the story line. The wedding (not theirs) had me almost peeing my pants I was laughing so hard. At times the comedy is a bit foolery but it worked so well with these characters. It didn’t feel out of place.
Really enjoyed this read.
What a thoroughly fun book to read! There was so much humor that I found myself chuckling throughout and underneath was a sweet love story. Even though this was a rom-com it dealt with some pretty tough themes in a way that just made it very palatable.
Edric and Lucy, two people who probably would have never met each other but fate brought them together in a form of a mistake. Like the saying says two wrongs can make a right.
Absolutely recommend.
This book has to be one of the funniest books I’ve read this year! Literally, I was rolling while reading it. The author takes these 2 amazing people and creates a couple that is fantastic!! They are special and sexy together. The author creates a situation that is enjoyable and every romance reader will adore this book! I get so connected to them due to the witty banter between them. I need to be in their world!!! The banter and sexiness really make this book a top romcom!!
Lucy and Edric meet under crazy circumstances. They pick at each other and it turns into something that will last forever. It’s wonderful watching the stages their relationship takes from friends with benefits to their HEA. Such an amazing couple. They take a chance and find the mistake that lead them to each other. This is a RELATIONSHIP GOAL!!
I loved Edric and Lucy’s story. This was sweet, heartwarming and funny. If you read the first two books you would know Edric liked to date a certain type of woman. Snooty and High Maintenance. After his recent break-up his sister-in-law and friend decide to play matchmaker and set him up on various dating apps. When he meets Lucy they make a deal they pretend to date so Edric’s friends back off and Lucy can store her horse on his property. These two are so alike that it was funny reading these two banter and Edric is so swoon worthy when a medical condition arises and he steps up to take care of Lucy. Loved this book. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
The Good Mistake is the most hilarious book I have ever read. I’m talking loud annoying pee your pants in laughter moments on every single single page. Brilliant sarcasm. Witty banter. Sweetness wrapped up in a hilarious little bow. This book is EVERYTHING! It’s like Haleigh Lovell bottled up pure joy and dumped in on the pages then topped it off with sprinkles of pure sarcasm to create perfection.
I am seriously not exaggerating how hilarious this book is. My sides still hurt from laughing so hard while I fell totally in love with Edric and Lucy. I have never read two people who were so perfectly matched in my life. It’s like they were perfectly in sync from the instant they met. Their off the wall humor combined with some seriously hot chemistry creates a distinctly unique romance that almost sneaks up on you. Despite the fact that these two never take life too seriously the love that they have is one that runs deep.
Even through the most difficult of times there’s no pushing each their away, if anything they cling tighter to the unbreakable bond that they have. I genuinely LOVED these two and honestly never wanted their book to end. This is definitely going to be one I reread countless times.
Oh Haleigh Lovell, I love you and your quirky characters and witty banter.
The Good Mistake is the third in the Hemsworth Brothers series (check out Queen B’s review of The Slam and The Foreplay to catch up!) but can be read as a standalone.
Edric has been dealing with blind dates for YEARS thanks to Adelaide attempting to play Cupid. When he meets Lucy on another blind date and they become fast friends, a scheme is born. A fake relationship to stop all the blind dates. And what Lucy gets out of it? A place to board her horse, Gouda, because naturally, Lucy is a horse girl.
From the beginning, Edric and Lucy had tangible chemistry; they literally felt like two halves of a whole, twins, one soul in two bodies, etc. It isn’t soon before either starts to have romantic feelings for the other. What felt natural about it is how it developed from friendship first – you could really feel the caring and devotion between them.
My favorite part of Haleigh Lovell’s writing is the dialogue. Witty, funny, and sometimes OTT, it never fails to make me smile or laugh. But there can also be too much of a good thing, and towards the end I was wishing for less quirkyness and more real talk.
Edric and Lucy were wonderful characters, and so much about them resonated with me (true crime shows, anyone??). Definitely a great read, and I highly recommend it!
What happens when you have two awesome but meddlesome friends, then add one horse girl and a Grand Slam winner? You get The Good Mistake, by Haleigh Lovell. I make no secret of loving Ms. Lovell’s books, and this book, (actually the whole series) is well written, hilariously funny and pure goodness with a side of hotness – a book that should not be missed.
Writing a romantic comedy is no easy accomplishment, to make the reader shake their head and say, “Oh, no he/she did not just say that!” Moreover, to laugh out loud, and smile till your face hurts. To make you fall in love with the characters and to root for them like a high school cheerleader, Haleigh Lovell does all these things seamlessly.
The Good Mistake is the third book in the Hemsworth Brothers series, although this is a stand-alone story I would highly recommend reading the two previous books. This book leads us down the hysterical path of Edric and Lucy’s love story.
Ms. Lovell’s characters are always written authentically and relatable. You are guaranteed to embrace them into your heart.
Edric has always been attracted to the wrong girl. He is too good-looking for his own good and a bit arrogant – describing himself as a hot and sexy athlete and sees himself as a player. However, he is so much more than that; he is kind and thoughtful and also vulnerable.
Lucy is a breath of fresh air, she is down to earth, playful and silly with a bit of cheekiness and a hot mess all at the same time. Lucy describes her love love-life as…” My dating life is soup. And I’m a fork.” She is the woman other women want to have as their best friend. I want to dream like Lucy!
As I have said before Ms. Lovell can write a great romantic comedy, but her books (at least for me) always have a more profound hidden message mixed in all the fun and silliness. This book reminds us that sometimes we are confronted with difficult choices in life. To let the bad things that have happened in the past affect our life and bring us down or we can learn from what has happened and embraces the life we have now and be grateful for it. We should always try to live our best life. I loved that Ms. Lovell instilled this mindset into our hero, Edric.
I highly recommend The Good Mistake if you are looking for a feel-good book with characters that will have you laughing out loud one minute, and the next minute fanning yourself from the hotness she creates on the page. Ms. Lovell is a master of the rom-com genre.
