Treat yourself to an “outrageously sexy” (Entertainment Weekly), “fabulously fun” (Jill Shalvis) second-chance romance from the New York Times bestselling queen of hockey romance! Lilah isn’‘t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’’s no longer that … just where they left off, but she’’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

I adore Helena Hunting writing. I mean her stories are always funny, witty, and entertaining. When I saw that The Good Luck Charm was coming out, I had to read the story. Seriously, I had a good time with Lilah and Ethan.
We have a second chance love story with The Good Luck Charm. Lilah and Ethan have a history. They were friends, then lovers, and finally they broke up. Both were hurting by Ethan’s decision, but are too stubborn to fix it. Fast forward to eight years later, and they are brought together again. Now Ethan is going to do everything in his power to get them back together, after all it must be fate.
Lilah isn’t sure about Ethan, and through most of the story she’s guarding her heart against Ethan. He did break once, why would she want that to happen again. Ethan was dumb when he broke up with Lilah the first time, because he thought he was doing the right thing. We have him trying to win Lilah again. He has work cut in the story.
Anyway, I did enjoy The Good Luck Charm, Lilah had to overcome her fears with being hurt again. I love one the quotes in the story “Love has the potential to cause pain. It’s a risk, and I think this is one worth taking.” Sometimes love is a risk, but it’s worth it. Anyway, I did have fun with Lilah and Ethan in this story. So, if you are a sucker for second-chance love stories, The Good Luck Charm is your read.

I don’t think of this story as a second chance, it is way more of a waiting for the right time, love story. See, while Ethan and Lilah were perfect back as children, teenages, and young adults, looking back, even they realized they needed time apart, because it would have fallen apart anyways.
That being said, this is a feel good, story. It is full of emotions, good and bad, but there is a positivity emanating from every action and reaction. These are two people who are completely and totally in love and devoted to each other, they just need to find a way to fit that into their lives. I was left smiling, grinning really, and warmth filled my very soul when they figured everything out!
Man, Helena Hunting and her sports romances! I swear, every single one of them is an absolute winner in my book, and you can count this as one of my all-time favorites. Add onto the fact that this also happens to be a second chance romance, and I’m. A. Goner.
The Good Luck Charm wasn’t just dripping sexual tension, but it was also charged with so much emotion and humor—it’s almost like a sweeter and more charming version of the books in her Pucked series. To say that this was highly addictive and unputdownable is definitely putting it lightly. Every chapter you flip to just gets better and better. It was so good, so enthralling, that I already want to go back, reread it and just bask in Ethan and Lilah’s world forever.
“Loving Ethan was only painful when I lost him. Loving him now is only painful because of the threat of losing him again.”
Let’s face it, Helena Hunting has some of the BEST and hottest dirty-mouthed heroes, and Ethan Kase undoubtedly falls under that quickly growing list. He was downright dreamy and swoon-worthy. Ethan blazed a fire and melted all of my insides every time he brought back to life the “traditions” they had all those years ago. He made my heart speed up when he groveled his way back into Lilah’s life, but he made it skip beats when he won her heart all over again. He was just the sweetest, had the best intentions at heart, and stole my soul something fierce.
Delilah Jane was so easy to love. She’s one of those characters who’s just every bit real and relatable—someone you’d connect with right off the bat. I loved her spunk, her quirkiness and softness. She made me feel every single emotion she felt throughout the entire book, along with her vulnerabilities and insecurities. Lilah just made me want to hug her, soothe her and tell her to hang on tight. That’s the thing with Helena Hunting’s characters—she won’t only make you want to drop your panties for her heroes, but she’ll also make you fall deeply in love with her feisty and strong-willed heroines.
“She carries half my soul, and without her, I don’t know how to exist.”
Ethan and Lilah were absolutely perfect together. And given the kind of history they have, their chemistry was just that much more magnetic and mesmerizing. I adored that connection and spark and comfort between them—how they really knew each other forward and back. They filled my heart to the brim, sent tingles down my spine, and left a wide, goofy grin on my face even long after I’ve reached the end.
Their love was just something else entirely—something other couples covet and chase to have. It was utterly profound, all-consuming, and uniquely theirs. One that truly withstood time and separation, doubts and fears. And no matter how much of them we already got from this, they’re still making me yearn for so much more of them. Of their story. Of their once in a lifetime kind of true love.
“I want to love you before I go.” He fits himself between my legs.
“I like it when you love me.”
Sexy and light-hearted; passionate and emotional; funny and captivating all rolled into one phenomenal romance novel, The Good Luck Charm ultimately has Helena Hunting’s brand of heart, heat and humor stamped all over it. If you’re looking for an epic sports romance—particularly hockey—that’s guaranteed to leave you floating on cloud nine and buzzing with endless good vibes… one that will make you swoon to no end, fill you up with all the feels, and giggle or snort-laugh like there’s no tomorrow… then you won’t go wrong with this book. I’ve missed Helena Hunting’s sports romances, and she most certainly delivered this bad boy on point.
THE GOOD LUCK CHARM by Helen Hunting is a contemporary, adult, erotic, hockey romance story line focusing on twenty-seven year old, professional hockey player Ethan Kane, and twenty-six year old, practical nurse Lilah Smith.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lilah and Ethan) THE GOOD LUCK CHARM focusing on the second chance relationship between twenty-seven year old, professional hockey player Ethan Kane, and twenty-six year old, practical nurse Lilah Smith. Eight years earlier, high school sweethearts Ethan and Lilah were making plans for the future when Ethan’s chance to play professional hockey found our hero walking out of Lilah’s life without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein Ethan’s trade to his home-state of Minnesota brings with it too many memories of the past, and reminders of what was and what could have been for our story line heroine. With his dad’s recent stroke Ethan would have to face the reality of having lost the woman he has always loved as Lilah remains a permanent fixture in his parents’ lives. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Lilah and Ethan, and the potential fallout as Ethan’s need for Lilah becomes overwhelming leaving our heroine feeling smothered and lost at the same time.
Lilah’s heart was destroyed the day Ethan walked out of her life with nothing more than a phone call saying he needed to focus on his hockey career. Losing the only man she would ever love Lilah spent the next eight years trying to find what she had lost only to come to the realization that nothing and no one could ever replace her broken heart. Ethan Kane has never stopped loving Lilah Smith, and his actions eight years earlier have been a heavy burden throughout his career. Having a second chance at love finds our hero trying to regain everything he has lost but in doing so begins to push away the woman he loves-Lilah will, once again, unknowingly sabotage her future for the man that could potentially destroy her heart.
The relationship between Lilah and Ethan is one of second chances; a palpable sexual attraction that has never diminished; a heart breaking and emotional reunion that begins to pick at a scar that had yet to heal. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Lilah’s sister Carmen; Ethan’s parents Martin and Jeannie Kane; Dr.Noah Lovely; and college student Emery Dove-Smith. I am hoping for a future story between Noah and Carmen.
THE GOOD LUCK CHARM is a story of sacrifice and acceptance; family and friendships; second chances and a happily ever after. The premise is emotional and sensitive; the romance is spirited and provocative; the characters are flirty but wounded. THE GOOD LUCK CHARM is a character driven, realistic and passionate story.
5 star Review The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting
This is a second chance at love story, a genre I have come to enjoy more and more this year.
I love Ms. Hunting’s style of writing, she ensures that her characters are not “perfect”. I was entertained and captivated from the start.
Ethan Kane left Lilah 8 years ago to pursue his hockey dream, yet now he has returned, determined to win her back at any cost. Will Lilah be open to rekindling their romance?
This was a solid romance with angst, passion and a great deal of emotion. Ethan and Lilah’s passion, friendship with years of knowing and loving each other easily translates onto the page. .
The Good Luck Charm is a story of redemption, of love and commitment, of forgiveness, of taking a chance and knowing that when it is right, it is right. The drama and conflict were offset by humour and steamy scenes.
As I have come to expect from a novel from Helena Hunting it was extremely well written with strong and relatable characters and was thoroughly enjoyable.
Once click now I don’t think you will be disappointed.
The Good Luck Charm is such a witty, sweet, and heartfelt romance. It is the fusion of some of my very favorite tropes.

I was sucked right into Lilah and Ethan’s story and couldn’t wait to unravel their tangled history. You can feel the connection between these two immediately. 8 years may have passed, but it’s clear that neither of them has truly forgotten the other. As the secrets of the past are revealed, my heart broke for all the lost time and pain these two caused each other. Though I wouldn’t necessarily classify The Good Luck Charm as a romcom, there are still plenty of laughs and lighthearted moments to balance the more emotional scenes.
I’ll be honest that it took me a bit to warm up to Ethan. He seemed selfish and self serving for a good part of the book, and acted like he could just waltz right back into Lilah’s life with some candy and a smirk. He’s not fully to blame though since Lilah did enable his behavior for the most part (after some resistance), as a result of her own fears and insecurities. As the book progresses though, both characters mature and truly come into their own. I loved that Lilah recognized that they were headed down the wrong path and took steps (however painful) to create balance. As much as their past trauma and present day issues hurt my heart, I appreciated the honest portrayal of young and all consuming love and the message that in a relationship, both parties need to be fulfilled individually in addition to together.
There were some fun secondary characters introduced in the book that I hope we will see more of in the future (ahem, Carmen and Noah!) and I wouldn’t mind one bit if we ever got an extended epilogue 😉 I really enjoyed this second chance romance and can’t wait for everyone to fall for Lilah and Ethan too!
4.5 stars
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*
Steamy does not begin to cover the sexiness of this book. I kept having to pause my audio on errands, it was too steamy for Publix consumption!
Great second chance romance!
Every character Helena Hunting writes is memorable to me. Good Luck Charm is sweet, sexy, easy to read and even easier to fall in love with the characters and the story. I devoured this book, I only stop listening/ reading to feed my family dinner. A beautiful love story of second chance.
4.5
Such a sweet, endearing story. We start out with hearing about Lilah’s terrible day… which royally sucks. My heart ached for her. Which ends with her high school sweetheart being back in town… for good.
I loved reading about Lilah and Ethan’s reconnection after being apart for eight years. Even though Ethan thought he was doing the right thing, truths come out and they’re able to accept their pasts a lot more than before.
Lilah gets thrown for a couple more loops throughout the story and has some hard decisions to make. My heart ached but understood why she did what she did; falling back so hard for Ethan’s all consuming love. Easily done with all the swoony things Ethan does. And boy was he a heart throb!
Even though my heart hurt in parts, they were good hurts that when put back together, truly made you feel whole. Both Ethan and Lilah had to work through the final pieces of their past to come out stronger on the other side.
I’m not saying this book is all about a good luck charm, but a little superstition never hurt anyone. So pick this charmer up now!
Helena Hunting has written yet another oh so funny, entertaining, heartfelt story with all the feels. This book is about Lilah & Ethan and their second chance at love eight years after their breakup. Ethan became a professional NHL player & was traded to Minnesota from LA. Lilah stayed in Minnesota becoming a nurse & is recently divorced. Side note, we can’t forget the adorable Merk. They are dealing with many changes in their own lives while working on their rekindled relationship. It’s a funny & emotional journey to their HEA. I highly recommend this book!!
Can a hockey player get his lucky charm back? This is the question that is answered in Helena Hunting’s book The Good Luck Charm. Ethan wants Lilah back in this sweet and engaging second chance romance.
I love everything Helena Hunting writes so I was excited to read this one and I was not disappointed. I enjoyed this enchanting story and you will too.
Wow, what an emotional, steamy, and pulls at the heart string story! Lilah and Ethan were together once, until Ethan decided to focus on his hockey career, leaving Lilah in the rear view mirror. Eight years later, Ethan appears back in Lilah’s life, but can she move on from the past and look towards what might be a second chance? Ethan and Lilah take us on a second chance journey where these two learn about who they have become since they last saw each other as well as addressing the still present chemistry between them. However, will Ethan’s idea of Lilah being his good luck charm ruin what they possible could have now? I loved these two and you definitely should read to find out what happens between Lilah and Ethan!
This was a re-read for me, but it had been a few years since I read The Good Luck Charm and it almost felt like I was reading this book again for the very first time. I love a great second-chance romance and Helena Hunting did such a wonderful job in The Good Luck Charm! I immediately felt the chemistry between Ethan and Lilah. Ethan left eight years ago to pursue his hockey career, leaving Lilah behind. The two of them were the best of friends and were inseparable until Ethan broke Lilah’s heart.
Now Ethan is back and he wants to try at a second chance with Lilah. But Lilah is recently divorced and doesn’t know if it’s a good idea to reconcile with Ethan especially since she’s going back to school and wants to pursue her own goals.
I loved the sizzling chemistry between Lilah and Ethan! Ethan was such a sweetheart, and I loved how he was willing to be so patient with Lilah. Lilah is battling her own demons from the past and I felt her anxiety acutely. I feel like Helena Hunting does such a good job tackling some bigger issues like anxiety/abandonment but with the perfect amount of humor sprinkled in.
I’m really glad I decided to re-read The Good Luck Charm – it was an enjoyable read!
Adorable and easy to get wrapped up in. This one was a hit. I love a good second chance romance, and this one was so sweet. The characters were easy to connect to and very lovable. Helena’s books are always a joy to read. I really enjoyed this one.
What a fantastic and fun read! I love second-chance romances, and this one didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend.
When you have a TBR longer than Santa’s good kids list what do you do? Go for the latest and greatest release by Helena Hunting of course! With Helena you always know you will always be left with some good laughs and a full heart no matter how much her books may be filled with angsty characters.
Having read a preview of The Good Luck Charm I was prepared for a good old fashion second chance at love novel that will set the reader off on a journey of learning what matters most even if it means the heart may not always know what’s best. The Good Luck Charm does not disappoint. While staying within the sports rom com genre (I hear hockey I think Helena) Helena is known for The Good Luck Charm takes you down a path somewhat deeper of overcoming internal challenges while keeping in sync with what the main characters Lilah and Ethan need for their souls.
Helena first introduced this book as one of second chances. But it delves way deeper than just a typical romantic second chance of love. Second chances relate to one’s own understanding on how the path they have been on was created because of previous events that led them there. This however does not always mean its best for them to change that course or second guess what they think they want vs what they need.
The Good Luck Charm is read well worth the time. While it is an enjoyable book and yes you may walk away with a book hangover what you will also have is a deeper appreciation and perhaps even understanding of the journey you are on for yourself. After all, reevaluating what matters most can only solidify the path we have set ourselves on even if it is time to take a new turn.
I’m a hardcore Helena Hunting fan and spent the best chunk of my August binge-reading her Shacked Up series (SO GOOD y’all), so I figured it was long overdue for me to read Good Luck Charm. I don’t know what took me so long to read it – especially since I preordered it AND her hockey themed sports romances (the Pucked series) is what made me fall in love with Helena Hunting’s writing, but I’m glad I finally picked it up (and proceeded to devour it). From the way we meet Lilah (who is really going through some ish which is really relatable, but she’s also a bit older than the heroines in the Pucked series so that also makes it easier for me to relate to her), to the real life situations that she and Ethan were facing, to the lush bittersweetness that draws me to second chance romance time and time again (and that HH delivers so masterfully), and the HEAT and HEART that embody all of her books – Good Luck Charm had me enthralled from the first page to the last. I’m not usually real big on angst in my romance but the true to life and low level of the angst here was entirely palatable and appropriate. And now my pump is totally primed for A Lie For A Lie next month so that I can get more hockey hotness! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.
This wasn’t as easy a read as many of Hunting’s books are. Lilah was very hurt by Ethan leaving her, and it isn’t a given that she should take him back when he returns 8 years later. I’ll let you decide whether or not she did the right thing.
I really enjoyed The Good Luck Charm. It had a lot funny and adorable moments as well as a few surprising ones. Ethan and Lilah have a lot of history and that takes a while to explain and understand. Despite the long time apart they still have that same connection and spark between them. Basically they are meant to be. I like Ethan a lot even with the mistakes and bad decisions he made in his past. He’s super sweet with Lilah and cares so much for her. Lilah has a lot more obstacles throughout the book. She doesn’t know how to feel or what to do most of the time. There are things from her past that hold her back and make it hard to move forward. She’s a very kind and compassionate person which makes her likable. I thought she made a few poor decisions with how she handled things, but she realizes what she needs and takes action. I was happy with how everything played out and how it ended. Side note, I loved that Alex and Randy were mentioned.
A very charming second chance love story…Ethan is a hot hockey player that returns home after being traded to Minnesota. His father is recovering from a stroke and being home gives him time to reflect on his past choices and the ones he made when he gave up the love of his life. Lilah is fresh out of a divorce and doesn’t trust Ethan after the way he left her before. They have a lot to work through in this book and it is clear the chemistry and connection is still there. Will they find their way back together??? Only time will tell. Dive in and enjoy!!!
