** I have received an Arc for a honest review!! **
WOW!! WOW!! This is an amazing story! I absolutely LOVED it!! This is her very best one yet!! I would like to reread so I can catch more of the details.
Cecily is running late. Since she was late, she was safe. She was supposed to meet her husband for a meeting in that building. There was a gas exploration in Chicago that killed five hundred thirteen people. A lot of twists and turns that kept my interest.
Franny is searching for her birth mother in that building.
Kate fled hoping she will be able to start over.
I loved how the author intertwined three different ladies with one single event. It makes you think and feel a lot! What an amazing job Catherine! I really enjoyed it!!
A fatal explosion at an office building in Chicago. Over 500 people killed. This story is about some of those people and the secrets that they left behind. Lots of secrets kept by people who escaped death and people left behind to cope with life. The ending was unbelievable and left astonished
Once again Catherine McKenzie’s writing style which mixes psychological suspense with deep exploration of the personalities and emotions of the characters results in a captivating read. Readers will be drawn into the struggles of three very different women as they deal with the aftermath of an event reminiscent of 9/11. They will keep wondering: Who is the good liar?
The Good Liar is a psychological thriller that you will not be able to put down. An office building in Chicago is destroyed by a gas explosion. One year later a documentary is being made that follows the lives of Franny, Kate, and Cicely. Each has a story to tell and a secret to hide. Just when I thought I knew who was lying, a plot twist sent me in a different direction. Expertly crafted characters and plot twists that had me guessing to the very end. The Good Liar is Catherine McKenzie’s best book yet!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and netgalley for an ARC of this book and this is my honest review
Catherine McKenzie does it again (How does she do it over and over again?!) Another book of hers that I could not put down from start to finish. This might be my favorite of hers – though I say that every time- they are all so fabulous!
The plot: On October 10 at 10:00am a building exploded killing over five-hundred people…fast forward one year later and the “Triple Ten” is being remembered. McKenzie weaves alternating perspectives of three women whose lives were impacted- all in different ways- in this one horrifying moment.
You think you know where this story is going….but you have no idea. You become sucked into each of these characters lives, the pain they have gone through and their struggles to find themselves and the truth. This book had me guessing until the very end and I was not disappointed! This is a must-read!!! I received an ARC for my fair and honest review.
Catherine McKenzie knocks it out of the park again! I was hooked from the first words and loved this book all the way to the end. Cecily is by far my favorite character, but there are so many interesting people with so many facets!
“…a woman running away from a tragedy, a woman running toward the same tragedy, and one stuck in the middle of it.” This is The Good Liar in the author’s own words. Another great read by Catherine McKenzie. All three women have a story to tell. There’s an underlying sense of foreboding throughout the book, even though the catalyst is tragic enough. The pieces start falling into place and you think you’re getting a handle on it all, but then there’s another 1/3 of a book left! There’s more to read, trust me.
This is the kind of book that you read again just to see if you missed anything the first time, to see if you can pick up on the subtle clues now that you know the end. Good stuff.
Life for Cecily stopped that day one year ago. The day the building came down. She should have been there, but she wasn’t. Her life has been put on hold this past year—the book her husband was reading is still laying on his nightstand, just waiting for him to come home and pick it up. For a year, she has been lying to everyone, and to herself.
The three women, connected by that one day, connected by that tragedy, connected by their lies. So many lies! Twists and turns as the reader tries to figure out the truth behind all the lies. Who even knows the truth anymore?
The Good Liar is a spellbinding thriller that will keep you guessing to the end. I devoured it and loved it! I’ve read all of Catherine’s books and her stories just keep getting better and better.
The Good Liar is another great thrill read by Catherine McKenzie. Given the nature of the book, it’s hard to summarize the plot without giving away too many spoilers.
On October 10th at 10am, there is a large explosion in an office building in Chicago. Over 500 people are killed and this novel takes a look at the lives of 3 women who were impacted by the tragedy. Throughout the novel, we find that their stories are woven together. At the end of each Part, a critical element of their relationships is revealed. You must read all the way to the end of the Epilogue to get that last nagging question answered. I enjoyed this book, because the twists that I thought I had figured out were not as they appeared. The book weaves in familiar scenery in Chicago and Montreal. I have enjoyed all of Ms. McKenzie’s novels, and this is no exception.
Once again Catherine McKenzie has written another fantastic psychological thriller that will keep readers engrossed from the very first page until the end. I liked the way it was told in the point of view of the three main characters, Cecily, Kate, and Franny. I found them to be complex but so real and very unpredictable. I could not figure out how their stories would end with all of the twists and turns in the story. The Good Liar is so well done and is a book that should not be missed. It packs quite a punch with an ending that will knock you out!! So very good.
I had a really hard time coming up with a review of the good liar. I find it hard to put into words why someone should pick up this novel without giving important parts away but I will try my best. I loved it and can’t think of anything bad about it.
Catherine McKenzie has a talent for writing suspenseful novels and twists you don’t expect. The good liar is a perfect example of this. The description of this novel tells you all you need to know before reading it in my opinion. The less you know going in, the better it is. I was on the edge of my seat throughout and trying to put the mystery together. The good liar finishes up nicely without leaving you asking any other extra questions and no cliff hangers. This novel speaks for itself and I have a feeling fans of other thriller style novels like gone girl will really enjoy it. I also recommend reading it in one sitting if possible because it is hard to put down. However, it is also really easy to get pulled back into. I highly recommend reading the good liar.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for a honest review through Netgalley.
