“I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she’s scared. But I will.”
One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life.
When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia’s mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family’s world to shatter.
An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

A brilliant domestic thriller. It’s got everything: plot, character, nail-biting tension. The definition of a page-turner.
Mary Kubica’s first novel stands out to me as one of her best. I read this deep into the night because I simply couldn’t put it down. A woman gets kidnapped and then returns traumatized, barely speaking and with no memory of what happened. As the story unfolds we learn that she, her mother and her kidnapper are all hiding important secrets. And …
I’m not usually a thriller-lover, mostly because the Big Twists never seem very realistic to me. I always prefer thrillers with great character studies, and The Good Girl didn’t disappoint.
I loved the author’s choice to write from every perspective but the victim’s. It gave a really interesting depth to Mia’s kidnapping, and I thought Kubica …
Stellar writing coupled with a captivating story makes for an entertaining read! Mary Kubica Mary is an author whose stories you’ll want to devour with every new release!
I’m not really into the typical detective mysteries so Mary Kubica’s debut novel The Good Girl wasn’t a 5-star reading experience for me but I have to admit it was pretty good. As noted in the book synopsis, plans change after a man is hired to abduct Mia, a prominent judge’s daughter. There were several aspects about Mia’s sitation that were very …
“Wonderful” characters isn’t really what I would say … I would say authentic, flawed, relatable characters who are truly compelling, and it’s the characters that made a 4-star read into a 5-star read. Full review on Goodreads. Highly recommended.
I love Kubica’s writing. How easily I get caught up in the character’s lives. How desperately I try to figure out the mystery before the end of the novel. How involved I become in the outcome. She knows how to spin a good story and take the reader on a roller coaster ride!
Excellent debut novel by Mary Kubica that kept me guessing until the end. I was floored by the twist in this novel.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked how it was told from the perspective of several different characters. It was suspenseful with a crazy twist at the end that I did not see coming. I would would recommend this book for fans of “The Girl on the Train” or “Gone Girl.”
Full of sharp, flawed characters I loved and could really get behind, plus a compelling plotting that had me flipping the pages as fast as I could, this was a truly exceptional novel. Both intriguing and surprising, I kept flipping the pages just to see how it would end. And the end did not disappoint. The epilogue packed a punch that left me …
An outstanding narrative that weaves its way into your psyche. Already a memorable story before the conclusion, the final twist makes it utterly unforgettable.
Loved the book. It jumps around to the different people talking at a time. Was hard to figure out what was gonna happen next. The ending is amazing! This was the 1st time I’d read her books and had to read ALL her other books. She writes the same way in all her books. Can’t wait for her next one to come out.
Have you ever read a book that consumes you so much that you can’t pick up another book for a couple of days? That’s where I am. I feel like I am trying to recover from a traumatic breakup or catastrophe or something. All I can say is IT. WAS. GOOD.
One of my favorite reads of 2018. I love a good thriller. I love a good mystery. But this book was so much more. I won’t give away any spoilers for those that haven’t read it yet but suffice to say, knowing the twists and turns that are coming in no way take away from this beautiful, haunting read.
I thought it was more imaginative and less predictable than Gone Girl actually
Kidnapping, blackmail, love story. This book has it all. It is the story of a girl, Mia, abducted and “saved” by her abductor. It is told through alternating points of view – the mother, the kidnapper, and the detective. Those points of view also alternate between before and after Mia’s return home. Once I got into the rhythm of the storytelling …
I liked it a twist at the end
I’ve had this book for awhile and kept putting off reading it. I’m not sure why– it’s terrific. There are comparisons to Gone Girl, and I don’t think that’s entirely fair. In fact, the comparison seems to based on a twist that comes at the very end of the book (that feels a bit… unnecessary, maybe?).
The plot centers around the disappearance …
I’m late to the party on Mary Kubica’s work, but now that I’m here, I’m a fan. Picked up THE GOOD GIRL on a recommendation from a writer friend and he was spot on. Great psychological thriller with multiple points of view with zero confusion and never disappoints. Really dug it.
I have been wanting to read this book for so long, and now I have. I love the author’s pen so addictive.
We find Mia who is followed for several days from her shopping to her work by a mysterious stranger. She will end up meeting him in a bar and follow him home without thinking at all that she will make a big mistake and that nothing will ever …
