NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Against the electrifying backdrop of the 1960s, Danielle Steel unveils the gripping chronicle of a young woman discovering a passion for justice and of the unsung heroes she encounters on her quest to fight the good fight. The daughter and granddaughter of prominent Manhattan lawyers, Meredith McKenzie is destined for the best of everything: top schools, elite social … everything: top schools, elite social circles, the perfect marriage. Spending her childhood in Germany as her father prosecutes Nazi war criminals at the Nuremberg trials, Meredith soaks up the conflict between good and evil as it plays out in real time. When her family returns to the United States, she begins blazing her own trail, swimming against the tides, spurred on by her freethinking liberal grandfather, determined to become a lawyer despite her traditional, conservative father’s objections. She rebels against her parents’ expectations for her debutante ball and other conventions. She forges a lifelong friendship with a young German Jewish woman whose family died in the concentration camps. And while her grandfather rises to the Supreme Court, Meredith enlists in the most pressing causes of her time, fighting for civil rights and an end to the Vietnam War.
From the bright morning of JFK’s inauguration, through the tumultuous years that follow as America hurtles toward the twin assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy, Meredith joins the vanguard of a new generation of women, breaking boundaries socially, politically, and professionally. But when the violence of the era strikes too close to home, her once tightly knit family must survive a devastating loss and rethink their own values and traditions in light of the times.
Encompassing the remarkable people Meredith meets, the historic events she witnesses, and the sacrifices she must make, this is the story of a woman changing her world as she herself is changed by it. Beautifully told, brimming with unforgettable moments and characters, The Good Fight is an inspiring, uplifting novel with resonance for our own time.

This book is one you don’t want to put down. You think you know what is going to happen and then the plot changes. Easy to read.
Meredith is the daughter of a lawyer and granddaughter to a Supreme Court Justice. Born in a time when life for women were changing and Meredith was rebellious enough to let it happen to her. She meets her best friend in college and learns that she is a child survivor of the holocaust. Meredith wants to be a lawyer, stand up for civil rights and wants to have a different life than the women who came before her. Her grandfather always told her to fight the good fight and Meredith is ready to do that….despite her parents not liking her choices!
Always has a happy ending
I loved this book and it is really inspirational because it shows us that we can do anything no matter what we are faced with.
I love all of Danielle Steel books. Her characters are always so realistic and she tells a great story.
Most of her books are the same but this one seemed a bit more detailed.
I lived through these times, but forgot some things. Also, I want younger people to be aware of what life was like in their parents’ and grandparents’ lifetime. It was not that long ago! We must keep progressing!!!!
The good fight by Danielle Steel
Story of a girl whose father is a lawyer and is sent to Germany to help with the trails.
Mary is growing up and the family moves there also and she goes to school learning the language. Although only 10 she goes to court with her dad-the war trials, so much has gone wrong.
Mary wants to fight for justice when she gets older, war crimials were brought to jsutice and they are headed back to NY again to join the family law office.
Her grandfather is going to be sworn in at the Supreme Court.
As time goes on she sees the barriers her relatives have put up=prejudice.
Like the history that goes along with this story, events of the years help her decide what she wants to do with her life.
Like her choices, tough ones but necessary for her happiness.
With turmoil at her office she decides she needs to go a different path. Surprised at the ending..
