“The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.” — Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review
Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his … that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love—and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle. The Goldfinch is a mesmerizing, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

Well-written but about 100 pages too long
Could not put it down
Very descriptive
One of the best books I’ve read that wasn’t a science-fiction or fantasy novel — my typical reads.
I think secret history was better. This is also great
A well written mystery story in a different genre for mysteries fro me.
Writing at it’s finest! Was it a long journey? Yes, and so very worth it!
Loved this book. Packed with great characters and action.
Fully realized characters, accurate depiction of art/museum situations, and just a good story.
I didn’t think I would ever finish this book. It felt never-ending and seemed to just continue to drag on and on.
It’s by Donna Tartt. That alone is recommendation enough. Oh, and it’s a Pulitzer Price winner.
So much to this book! Lots of character development always makes the story that much better!
Overrated
Too slow didn’t grab my attention.
I did not like this book although the language is well used the main character is flat. There is a lot of drugs and sometimes it just went on and on.
This is a Big Book but it was a easy read. I really enjoyed it
Too long to maintain interest for me. Good story but might have benefitted from cutting parts.
It was a compelling story. A broad ranging story over a long period, kind of like Dickens.
Terrible book … can’t understand the hype about this book … it 700plus pages that should have been written in 300 pages and for me would have meant the book was readable. I finished just because I hate not finishing and thought I was missing something I wasn’t
Did not live up to the hype; a bit fantastical too
