WINNER OF THE PULITZER PRIZE
“The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.” — Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review
Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his … that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love—and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle. The Goldfinch is a mesmerizing, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

I would give the first half of the book 5 stars but the second half only 2 stars.
Deserved the Pulitzer Prize.
Exciting.
Extremely well written, gripping story. Pulitzer Prize winning works are ALWAYS a
terrific read!
Meh- too long and too repetitive for me. I gave it three stars because parts of the book were quite good
Wonderful story. Very well written and plausible.
I did not like this book at all.
A unique and beautiful story in every way. Beautifully told, beautifully written. It’s one of those rare books that I didn’t want to end. At its heart, it’s a story of loss, but to me, it’s more about the power of love. The love we’re born to, and the love where we find it walking the earth. If we were lucky in life, we have a few people who truly …
i liked parts of it but couldnt figure out what the point of it was. boys on drugs,?parenting matters? how to be a jerk all your life?
This is an extremely long book full of twists and turns but I really enjoyed it when
I finally got thru it.
Waaaaay too long. I liked the beginning and the ending, the parts taking place in New York; I did not care for the mid section.
A wonderful book!
Tartt is a masterful wordsmith and her powers of description put the reader right in the scene. Magical!
Curious about the movie but it cannot be nearly as good as the book!
Unexpected plot and very enjoyable. Hard to put down. The movie will be hard pressed to do so well!
Exquisitely written. Stays with you long after you’re done reading it.
Don’t understand all the hype for this boring, overlong book. I should have heeded a warning when it got the Pulitzer Prize. Her previous book, “The Secret History” is totally different & one I much prefer. Can not recommend this horrible story.
The characters are not always likable but the writer keeps you interested in what happens to them.
The first 2/3 was good- then it got long and tiring.
One of the best books I have ever read. The prose, the characters, the world in which they live. Just stunning.
Too many details where they weren’t needed and not enough details where they were needed.
