WINNER OF THE PULITZER PRIZE
“The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.” — Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review
Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his … that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love—and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle. The Goldfinch is a mesmerizing, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

An incredibly beautiful story with superb writing.
Would read it again
A real trudge to get through.
Good read but not it you are sensitive to four letter words .
The story line was interesting, but the book was entirely too long.
Loved the book and the movie.
As a lover of art and travel, I was interested in this book for those reasons. I found the book a tedious read in many places, but still it makes the conscientious reader think about issues faced by a troubled and not all that likeable main character. After several years, I’m now trying to decide whether I’d like to see the movie!
I loved this book.
I love this book. It was action packed with lots of interesting places and interesting characters. It covers a little bit of high society,a little bit of drug dealing, a bit of art and crime.
All rolled into one neat package that becomes an action packed page turner of a great book. It’s Spans the life of a 13 year-old boy until the age of …
Too long but good story. Could have been cut down 250-300 pages. Ugh, he is such a wishy washy character, probably due to what happened to him but got frustrated with his stupidity and indecision. Could have been so much better!
I wasn’t sure I would finish this book, because the first day of the story lasted for almost 100 pages. Fortunately, the pace picked up as it was a great story.
I may be the only person on the planet who hated this book. I am not interested in main characters who are sociopaths.
I was expecting this book to be great but was terribly disappointed! How it won awards, I don’t know!}
too long
The story is great but at times too descriptive to the point of annoyance
Didn’t like it
I’m probably the last person on earth to read this, but I loved it with my whole heart. I still miss living in this world, and I miss Boris.
Very exciting plot. Great book
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. The publisher, Little, Brown, created a #Readalong leading up the movie release of the novel. I got on the bandwagon, seeing a chance to knock off one more book from my growing TBR shelf.
At first, I kept to the suggested reading schedule. But there came a point when I had to …
Great book. Many twists and turns. Can’t wait for the movie.
