In the twenty-second century Earth obtains limitless, free energy from a source science little understands: an exchange between Earth and a parallel universe, using a process devised by the aliens. But even free energy has a price. The transference process itself will eventually lead to the destruction of the Earth’s Sun—and of Earth itself.Only a few know the terrifying truth—an outcast Earth … outcast Earth scientist, a rebellious alien inhabitant of a dying planet, a lunar-born human intuitionist who senses the imminent annihilation of the Sun. They know the truth—but who will listen? They have foreseen the cost of abundant energy—but who will believe? These few beings, human and alien, hold the key to Earth’s survival.

Kinkier than your average Asimov.
A very Asimov read. Its really an exploration of how universes with different core physics might interact. It was a fun read, but doesn’t leave you with much of anything. I think a few things with the ‘para-Universe’ are left hanging, which would have been interesting to know about.
Asimov never ceases to surprise! He is a true master builder of other worlds!
A classic by a master of the genre.
Asimov is considered among the best sci fi writers of all time. This is a singleton book. The story is very interesting, following a group of aliens and a group of humans in two different locations with no interaction whatsoever. The aliens are concerned with growing up and becoming adults in their society. The humans are focused on an …
Isaac Asimov is one of the most consistently great authors, but the middle story in this unusual collection is beyond anything I’ve ever read. I really wanted it to go on and on, and I never wanted to leave that world.
I like Asimov, but I think this is probably his weakest novel.
This was another first that drew me into this genre years ago. Asimov is a groundbreaker for all of us that aspire to touch on the illicit, unavoidable world ahead.
One of Asimov’s best. Creative, entertaining and unpredictable to the end.
A different take on alien life.
I read this book years ago but still remember the plot that revolves around a another species but one that is NOT a bipedal humanoid.
The title may evoke a hundred different possible plots. Asimov leads us on a quest for a solution to a mystery. The gods are characters that will endear themselves to you. As you read notice how this story entices you to read more of this author.
Always liked Asimov books. they never disappoint.
Not as popular as his Robot series, but quite good. I recommend all his novels.
classic
What is there to say about an Asimov book, except read it you will enjoy it.
I only expect excellent books with Isaac Asimov as the author. Never disappointed.
An explantain of how aliens think
Initially confusing until the connections were made. Then quite intriguing.
A foundational science fiction writer who explores the “what if’s” with integrity and imagination.
This has three stories. The first is great! The second is what I’d call an experimental story, very odd- I did not finish it. I can’t remember the third story.
