Defense attorney Mickey Haller returns with a haunting case in the gripping new thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly. Mickey Haller gets the text, “Call me ASAP – 187,” and the California penal code for murder immediately gets his attention. Murder cases have the highest stakes and the biggest paydays, and they always mean Haller has to be at the top of his game. … has to be at the top of his game.
When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.
Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Mickey must work tirelessly and bring all his skill to bear on a case that could mean his ultimate redemption or proof of his ultimate guilt. The Gods of Guilt shows once again why “Michael Connelly excels, easily surpassing John Grisham in the building of courtroom suspense” (Los Angeles Times).

“The Gods of Guilt” is what Mickey Haller (“The Lincoln Lawyer”) calls juries in criminal court. Haller is a wily trial lawyer, expert at picking juries, and piecing together a defense to what looks like an open-and-shut murder trial. In this book, a pimp’s alleged murder of a prostitute. The book might have been called “The Ghosts of Guilt” as a …
The Gods of Guilt is the fifth book in the Mickey Haller, Lincoln Lawyer series and to date, July 2019, the last book in the series. It is wonderfully twisted with great facts and information and as per always, Mickey Haller is one colorful character. The last few chapters lead you to believe you’ve got it figured out and I was anxious to get to …
Love all of the Mickey Haller books.
Mickey Haller is recovering from a disastrous run for the DA’s office (he lost). Now he’s back in private practice, picking up what paying work he can in criminal defense. Andre Le Crosse, a digital pimp, has been accused of murder. The twist is the victim was a former client of Mick’s Gloria Dayton. The book is a little looser with prison and …
Was there a book 4.5 that I missed? I’ve been reading the Lincoln Lawyer books in order, and when “The Fifth Witness” (book 4) ended, Mickey’s driver was Rojas, and he was going to run for DA. He promised Rojas there would be a place in the organization for him going forward. Things were improving between Mickey, Maggie and Hayley. The novel ended …
MC at his finest with Bosch’s half-brother Mickey at the helm. A legal slow-burn that will get you like he always does.
Michael Connelly is wonderful!
While I am a huge fan of Michael Connelly’s his Mickey Haller books, of which this is the most recent, are not quite as gripping as his Harry Bosch novels. However Connelly on a bad day writes better than most writers on a good one. I am amazed at how consistently good his novels have remained over a 30 plus year career.
Vintage Connelly. The guy is one of the most consistently strong mystery/thriller writers in the country. His books never disappoint.
Connelly at his best!
Another masterpiece from one of my favorite authors.
A great read
Now I love the Micky Haller books, and Lincoln Lawyer was fantastic. The Fifth Witness was a solic follow up but this book was the weakest entry yet.
Am not sure why, but I just wasn’t pulled into the story on this one, with Micky trying to figure out the murder of a past client he thought he had saved. I wanted to be pulled in but found it …
Mickey Haller’s latest murder case involves the death of a prostitute with her pimp as the prime suspect. Only Mickey knew Gloria when she was alive, working out what he thought was a deal to get her out of the life. Where has she been for the last eight years? And can Mickey get his client off when the odds keep piling up against him?
This …

I got caught up in this book and at times I had to stop and put it down due to Red Hot Anger it brought up in me because I knew this was based on real LA PD case files and I was reading about real people and some very sick, twisted, evil, and wicked people who did some horrible things to their victims.
I was a small town Police …
