Gena Showalter does it again! The dark and twisted journey Gena takes the reader on in The Glass Queen is full of magic, mayhem, and romance that simmers to the point it sizzles. I’ll never look at the fairy tale of Cinderella the same again. I cannot wait for more in this series.
Fun Cinderella retelling. Nothing overly unique but held my attention from beginning to end.
The Glass Queen is a twisted fairytale retelling of Cinderalla.
Princess Ashleigh Charmaine was born with a week heart and is not strong enough to survive let alone rule one day her kingdom. She didn’t received any magical power on her birthday and her father is sure that she won’t live long. Until an oracle made a fairytale prediction on the little girl and the King let her mother keep the girl. As she grown up, she begins to have magical power and no control over them. She will need to work with Prince Saxon, an avian, who despise her. This one is also part of the Cinder prophecy..
I have loved this retelling of the tale and can’t wait to read the next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book.
I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
Return to Enchantia and meet the Glass Queen in this second installment of Gena Showalter‘s series Forest of Good and Evil. I devoured this book! I really enjoyed The Evil Queen, and truth be told, I wasn’t sure how the sequel would live up. However, I am here to tell you that The Glass Queen is a heart-stopping addition to the series, worthy of any and all praise it receives.
Princess Ashleigh Charmaine is known as the Glass Princess. Born with a weak heart, she has never been seen as strong enough to survive and rule her kingdom. As she ages though, a power is awakening in her, one that she isn’t sure she controls. I love Ashleigh. Her entire character arc proves that she will be a just and fair queen, if she is ever really given the chance.
Saxon was first introduced in The Evil Queen, a friend of Prince Roth and the heir to the Avian throne, whether he wants it or not. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about Saxon starting this book. His interactions with Everly were not the best. However, I quickly fell in love with him. The credit for that goes to the dual points of view. The chapters alternate between Saxon and Ashleigh, which just served to endear him to me.
The plot revolves around the prophecy surrounding Ashleigh and Saxon. Saxon is in his third reincarnation as one of the ruthless leaders of the Avians. Fate continues to bring him and a witch together. However this time the witch (Ashleigh) seems to not remember him nor does she have any of her previous powers. With her father vying to control all the kingdoms, Ashleigh must strike a bargain to work with the man who hates her most, whether she understands his hatred or not.
Overall I loved The Glass Queen. This twisted Cinderella retelling had me guessing right to the end. Steamy and sweet, the romance is heart-aching and sure to tug at your heartstrings. If you enjoy fairytale retellings, you need this one asap.
My goodness this was good I was slightly worried that book two in this series wouldn’t match the previous experience I had but it did and I literally inhaled this I was that invested in the unfolding story.
So we are back in Enchantia and this time it’s the cinder girl or Cinderella as the fairytale focus.
Again this is a loosely based freshly unique retelling that borrows from that story but it’s mostly a symbolic resemblance rather than a tired seen before rehash.
This is incredibly imaginative and totally separate borrowing ideas and sentiments rather than actual plot directions from the original.
This time we get dual POV and like the first book this has some very dark roots and though I described the first book as mature YA I felt that this one had a much more adult vibe to it but genre-wise it’s again dark mature YA.
So Saxon the Avian Prince we met in book one is the love interest here and princess Ashleigh is his potential Cinder.
It’s an enemy to lovers story and is filled with magic, dragons, possession, obsession and a love story that has been playing out on a loop for aeons stuck on repeat until a new chapter again unfolds with the hope that this time it will play out differently and happiness will be achieved.
I do think you definitely need to read the first book in this series as there are certain things that may fly over your head without that input.
There’s also previous players that again make an appearance in this one and though a different story this is also a continuation of the plotline we were introduced to previously.
Its fast-paced slow burn and very well written with multi-faceted and imperfect characters that grow so much throughout the course of all this.
I was incredibly impressed with how we arrived where we did the trials that were overcome and the lesson learned along the way.
Another five-star read and I’m definitely hoping there’s more to come from this fascinating world as it’s seriously addictive.
I can’t wait to see who’s story will play-out next and also which fairy-tale inspiration will be the next muse.
This gets the full five-stars from me no issue I absolutely loved it and do recommend.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of The Glass Queen (The Forest Of Good And Evil #2).

Enchanting, action pact and full of fairytale goodness! I could not put it down! Unbelievably well written tale of past lives, betrayal, revenge, friendship, love and finding your own happily ever after The girl no one wants and the man who has suffered unimaginable betrayal twice over find themselves again in the center of a fairytale where no one knows what role they play, except maybe the oracle. It’s exciting and endearing and a it will have a favored place on my bookshelve! I cannot wait to read more from this unique world!
Beautiful! Amazing! Every bit worth waiting for! Now I need to get my hands on the next one!!!!! This series is so amazing!!!! The first book in the series, The Evil Queen, had become my favorite book since the day I read it which was in the beginning of this year and no other book has able to top that until this beautiful treasure came into my life!! I couldn’t put it down!!!
This book was everything!!!! Enemies to lovers! A strong hero and the equally strong heroine (who shares my name)!! Amazing side characters! A kick-ass story line! Amazing steaminess and dragon babies!! Who doesn’t want a dragon baby in their life?
If you don’t read this book and haven’t yet read the first one, their is something seriously wrong with you. I’m kidding! Slightly! Anyway, I not only recommend this book, but this series!!!!!! I bet each book will be better than the last because that is what is happening so far!!
Gena Showalter, you are queen and have become my favorite author! I happily bow down to your greatness!!!!
Now, all compliments aside, where’s the sequel? I need it in my life!! Like now!! Please! PLEASE! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
I’m just kidding. Take your time to create your genius. Just please do it fast! No pressure or anything… 🙂
After reading The Evil Queen I wasn’t sure I really wanted to keep going with this series. I’d already bought The Glass Queen though and so I took a little break and read a few other books before starting it. Let’s just say I’m glad I gave it a chance. This book is Gena Showalter at her finest. It is quirky, witty snd wonderful. The heroine is fierce and determined. The hero is strong but genuine. The story played out wonderfully with nods to the classic fairytale and plenty of new twists and turns to keep you guessing. I can’t wait to see what Showalter has for us next in this series!
This was such a great sequel – and dang, the narration was fire . Still recommending this series for fans of The Cruel Prince, lovers of enemies to lovers, and those who adore retelling vibes. Definitely can’t wait to see which fairy tale plays out in the next one!
Is it easier to forgive or to forget?

A retelling of Cinderella with a twist.
I really loved the Glass Queen, I had a lot of fun trying to figure out who was who.
Ashleigh is an amazing character, she’s a good doer with a backbone of steel. She knows what she wants out of life and is not afraid to fight for it and at the same time she’s sweet and caring. She’s never had someone to love her other than her mother but she doesn’t let her circumstances pull her down.
Saxon is a dark night in shinny armor, he’s fierce handsome and can easily take down an opponent with just a rage filled look. He hated Asha as soon as he saw her and is willing to do whatever it takes to save his kindom from a tragic ending.
I really enjoyed this book, I had a deeper insight on the characters that confused me and I was finally able to look at the bigger picture.
I loved that I got to see some of my favorite characters from the evil queen and that even though it wasn’t their story they played an important part.
I’m hoping the next book is about Dior and Vikander. I really liked her and I’m hoping to see her grow out of her shell and become as fierce as Ashleigh.
The retelling wasn’t as straightforward as the fairy tale, every character has the potential to be anyone, so it was fun to figure out each role.
Sax and Asha as a couple are great I really enjoy the enemies to lovers trope and this was very nicely done. And their “babies” are the cutest things. I can’t wait for the next book.
The witch and the Oracle are the weirdest characters ever I still don’t know if I like them or not but I’m starting to understand them better. They are pretty interesting, I’ll give them that LOL.
I’m falling in love with this series and I’m dying for more.
This is the first book I’ve read from Gena Showalter and I must say that she is an amazing fantasy author and storyteller.
The Glass Queen was a great twist and re-telling of the Cinderella story and I was captivated by how the author took this well known children’s story and turned it into a dark and twisted adult fantasy love story.
I love the whole hate- to – love- you- love-to hate -you dynamic that Princess Ashleigh and King Saxon have, I love that you get that GOT vibe in some parts of the story and I loved that you really didn’t need to read the first book in this series to appreciate this story.
This book was intriguing, you don’t know who you could trust and you really weren’t too confident in the main characters having their HEA.
I will keep an eye out for the next installment in this series and see what other Disney princess story will be given a twist by this author.

I don’t usually read this type of book and I guess I know why. Parts of this book were really good and I felt like I flying through this book. The rest of it was too wordy and drawn out. I think it could have been hundred pages less.
It was descriptive and had some interesting characters
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
3.5 stars!
As soon as I finished The Evil Queen, I was pretty eager to start this one right away. With this being my second read by Gena, I kind of had a sense of her writing style and expected about the same with this one.
The Glass Queen is what I’d say is a new adult fantasy romance with the enemies to lovers trope. This is a Cinderella retelling and one of the things I really enjoy about this series is figuring who is who.
I actually really liked Ashleigh and Saxon, they both go through some character development as the story progresses, but I was definitely hoping for a little bit more.
I really have to hand it to Gena, she does a phenomenal job with her world-building. I’m definitely not used to way that she writes it, but with this being my second book, I had a better idea of how she approaches everything. She hooked me in completely with this world and characters.
I loved that we got to see Everly and Roth again, I don’t think I could ever tire of them.
Even though this has the enemies to lovers trope, they still managed to pull the emotions out of me. I did feel their connection and chemistry, but to me, it felt like it could have gone a tad bit deeper.
Like the first, I struggled with how lengthy the book is and sometimes felt we were just going through the motions of the story.
However, I’m completely sold on this series, I’ve been enjoying every bit of it and can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I have been provided with a review copy of The Glass Queen through Edelweiss for an impartial review. This is the second book in the new The Forest of Good and Evil series and oh my gosh I just absolutely loved getting to reenter this world with it’s amazing characters. This book features some new characters as well as some returning favorites. This book is centered around the Cinderella fairy tale and I was just so excited to see this different take on the fairy tale. I was just drawn into this world and captivated by what was taking place. It was just a great addition to an amazing series. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series and its characters.
