Three months after returning Magician Emery Thane’s heart to his body, Ceony Twill is well on her way to becoming a Folder. Unfortunately, not all of Ceony’s thoughts have been focused on paper magic. Though she was promised romance by a fortuity box, Ceony still hasn’t broken the teacher-student barrier with Emery, despite their growing closeness. When a magician with a penchant for revenge … revenge believes that Ceony possesses a secret, he vows to discover it…even if it tears apart the very fabric of their magical world. After a series of attacks target Ceony and catch those she holds most dear in the crossfire, Ceony knows she must find the true limits of her powers…and keep her knowledge from falling into wayward hands.
The delightful sequel to Charlie N. Holmberg’s The Paper Magician, The Glass Magician will charm readers young and old alike.

Like its predecessor The Paper Magician, Charlie Holmberg’s The Glass Magician is crisp, creative, and vaguely unsatisfying.
Ceony, the heroine of both books, is still lovesick over Emery, her mentor in the art of Folding (using paper to cast spells). The story moves just as quickly, starting with a bombing in Chapter Three and resolving in a little over 200 pages. And the materials-based magic system remains fun.
But what had the makings of a mystery turned out to be merely an extended chase scene without much of a puzzle to solve. And Ceony made several questionable decisions that seemed more reckless than brave. There’s also a jarring point-of-view shift near the end.
Overall, The Glass Magician was a decent read. But it left me less interested in continuing the series than the first book did. Sequels are tough.

I enjoyed the second book of this trio of young adult magic time travel series. There is a continued thread of drama from the first book and a deepening of the romance angle. The characters are likeable and the action is swift and exciting.
So good, even better than The Paper Magician.
In this Ceony’s been a Folder for a little while now and she’s becoming more adept with the spells. She’s also becoming closer to Emery, much to Mg. Aviosky’s chagrin.
This time they are fighting against anoth Excisioner and a Gaffer, that is in love with Lira, and looking to have the spell Ceony put on her reversed.
Along the way we meet Langston, one of Emery’s former apprentices and Julie, a Smelter/cop.
If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll surely find this one as delightful.
I enjoyed the first book in this series, The Paper Magician.
Book #2 does not disappoint.
Good characters, interesting plot, dangerous people.
And we find out, along with Ceony, that there are ways around some of the seemingly hard and fast rules of magic.
What an action packed story. I really like the characters in this book and how they relate together. I liked how the story was done. Definitely for teen and young adults!
The second book in the series picked up just months after the first one ended, and I found myself totally pulled into this whimsical world of magic once again. A world where you get to choose or in some cases get assigned to a specific magical medium! This means you can only use magic through that one form such as paper, glass, etc. Or does it?
**SPOILER ALERT**
Yes, this book was a bit familiar and had more of the same behaviors from our characters. Ceony kept walking into traps ON PURPOSE. She is young and seemingly unaware of her own mortality. And actually, maybe that is what makes her the hero! Her willingness to jump in when others flee reveals her strength of character to do the right thing and attempt to fix past mistakes if she can. But as a reader, you can’t help but roll your eyes and yell at her to wait for back-up or at least tell someone else what is really going on.
And Emery Thane, you can’t help but love him. He is kind to a fault, courageous and reclusive. He has suffered great loss and is a bit wounded when we first meet him in book 1, but we start to see him healing in book 2 with Ceony at his side. You just want him to recognize how strong Ceony really is. She isn’t meant to be kept at home away from danger. That will never make her happy. She wants to be fighting right along beside him, if he would only let her. The two of them really are becoming partners, and it is magical to watch and see what happens next
This 2nd book takes place 3 months after the events of the 1st book. Ceony is still studying under Magician Thane. She has a friends names Delilah that is studying under Magician Aviosky who is over the school.
Ceony keeps having memories of Lira & what happened. Delilah is a glass appreintace. For Ceony the field trip to the paper mill is an required course. But while they are there an expolision happens. They were able to escape the fire.
Ceony knows she has to face Grath and the other excisioner so that no one else gets hurt because of her.
Ceony enlists the help of her friend Delilah. They go into the girls bathroom where there is a large mirror for Ceony to pass throguh and meet with Grath. She gets through and meets him at a barn where he has a lot of mirrors. Something goes wrong and Grath brekas the mirror and Delilah goes and gets the help of the magicians. Emery tracks her down and brings her back.
In the end she defeats Grath but loses her friend to him. Emery was scared of losing Ceony in all of this. This is the best series that I have read. I would recommend this book and series to anyone that likes to read.
(Cannot be read as a standalone.)
MUCH better than the previous book.
I loved the fantasy and the relationship between Emery and Ceony.
Ceony was still stubborn and a bit crazy jumping into trouble all the time, but the adventure and journey was wonderful.
I can’t wait for book #3.
Amazing
I had a hard time reading this book. It was a very slow start and probably took me longer. But at 60% it started to get better. Can’t wait for the last book. Great read
I read the first book and was hooked enough to pick up this second book in the series. This one wasn’t quite as good as the first but I still enjoyed it enough that I’m now reading the third installment and will likely read the fourth when it’s released. The books in this series are quick, light reads that are somewhat predictable but still keep you interested to the end.
Not as great as the first book but still really great.
Astrid’s Description: It has been three months since Ceony fought for Emery’s heart. While Ceony has been excelling at being a paper magician, she also has been working to get Magician Thane’s affection.
Things get kind of crazy when a man believes that Ceony has unlocked a secret to magic. He is after her and this supposed secret. After people she loves are caught in the crossfire, Ceony knows that she must handle this, and fast.
I am writing this review a month after I read it, and therefore I do not remember much beyond the fact that I enjoyed it. The other reviews on this seem to be split in half. You either love it, or you do not. I still think that Charlie is a fantastic writer. I still love the way she describes people, scenes, and magic. Charlie Holmberg is creative, and it captures me. I am a big fan of Charlie and I love this book just as much the other ones I have read.
