Archeologist Taryn St. Giles has spent her life mining the ruins of the elves who vanished from the Four Kingdoms a thousand years ago. But when her patrons begin disappearing too—and then turning up dead—she finds herself unemployed, restless, and desperate. So she goes looking for other missing things: as a bounty hunter. Tracking her first fugitive—the distractingly handsome and strangely … strangely charming Alric—she unearths a dangerous underworld of warring crime lords, demonic squirrels, and a long-lost elven artifact capable of unleashing a hell on earth.
Chased, robbed, kidnapped, and distressingly low on rent money, Taryn just wants one quiet beer and to catch her fugitive. But there’s more to Alric than his wicked grin—is he a wanted man or the city’s only hope? With menacing mages in pursuit and her three alcoholic faery sidekicks always in her hair, Taryn’s curiosity might finally solve the mystery of the elves… or be the death of her and destroy her world.
If Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, invaded Stephanie Plumb’s Jersey and fell into a raucous, twisted Middle Earth, they might find Taryn St. Giles already waiting for them in this high action fantasy caper.– Jessa Slade, award-winning author of QUEEN OF STARLIGHT, Sheerspace Book 1

At first it was a little confusing as it drops you in a world with lots of new types of beings and little explanation, but you catch up quickly. The heroine, or anti-heroine, starts out by having a bad day and it just keeps getting worse, and funnier, from there. The writing is light-hearted and witty enough that even as things go more and more wrong, and grow more and more dangerous, you’re pulled in and laughing the whole time. I’d rather be laughing than crying. I’m hooked now, so I guess I’m off to download the rest. i find myself oddly identifying with the main character, even though I’d have been a panicky blubbering mess about an hour in. Plus, the names of the fairies…that is enough to pick up this book and give it a try.
Taryn meets Alric, a rather mysterious guy who is definitely not what he presents himself as. Taryn would like to work as an archeologist, but work is hard to come by after her last boss dies unexpectedly. Picking up gigs as a bounty hunter keeps her in just enough money to survive and almost make her rent. Then she arrests Alric, and archeology is a small goal compared to keeping her friends alive. I love the constant surprises this book has, and the three fairies that are her wards make for lots of mini mayhem and conflict.
Took a while to develop the characters, but picked up quickly after that. After the halfway point I could not put it down! Getting the next book in the series tomorrow. 🙂
Adventure awaits
Lots of fun. The suspense had me on edge. My favorites are the faeries. Hilarious. The different species of characters was interesting. Great story.
This is the first of the series and I’ve loved every one since – great characters and lots of action – a nice combination!
Unusual, but a fun read!
Fantastic read! Looking forward to the rest!
Reading this one made me buy all the rest in the series! Great concept for a world, in which archaeologists have to be sponsored by rich patrons, who take all their valuable finds and display them as trophies to their wealth and power. So many fantastical creatures who pretty much all get along. And a mysterious artifact with unexpected powers. I love that the main character is a woman who is sure of herself and professional, not a princess or a damsel in distress.
This book was very entertaining and easy to read. Great read to take my mind off everyday stuff.
Loved it!!!
Amusing. Very well detailed. I had a hard time putting it down.
Great read. Never expected outcome
This is one of a series and each one is as entertaining as the one before. Twists and turns….full of surprises. Keeps you up when you should be sleeping. A fantasy world which draws you in.
This book was entertaining, with different characters, and was fast paced with enough humor to keep it from being too intense. It is the start of a six book series, with the last one coming out in April 2019, dang it.
The main character has a good sense of humor. the supporting characters are believable and interesting too.
Kind of fantasy, kind of mystery. A set of characters that are different. Has some humor and is a quick read.
This is a fun story. I liked reading it.
Great heroine. Good mystery. Just enough romance to make it interesting.
This book started a little slow for me; however, it picked up and by the time I finished, I wanted to read the next book in the series.
Great fantasy series. Couldn’t put it down. Interesting twists and turns.
