Now a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts. MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST The perennially bestselling, extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, “nothing short of spectacular” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir from one of the world’s most gifted storytellers. The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, … is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette’s brilliant and charismatic father captured his children’s imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn’t want the responsibility of raising a family.
The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another, and eventually found their way to New York. Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered.
The Glass Castle is truly astonishing—a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.

Could not put this book down. Sad to think how these kids grew up.
I read this book several years ago, and it opened my eyes to the escapades and tragedy of a family living in abject poverty, of a girl who overcame social and economic obstacles and the humor interlaced in this story. I highly recommend this book.
Great book
An all-time favorite.
Hard timing believing her story was true
One of my favorite books of all time.
Excellent book about family dynamics and overcoming obstacles.
What a story! True and tragic. I can’t imagine overcoming her childhood but the author did it and found great success with this honest and ‘accepting’ account of her upbringing.
It is difficult to read this as a memoirs, it feels like a novel. Powerful!
best book EVER
I thought it was more than a worthwhile read. If it wasn’t a true account, it’d be unbelievable.
I like true stories. The stories about this author’s family are incredible. Mind boggling.
I didn’t care for this book. Found it depressing.
Loved this book! Eye opening, gut wrenching look at poverty, dreams and families.
A fascinating story about a family with disfunctional but loving parents. The way the children coped was amazing. I have read all her other books…they were just as fascinating.
Hard to read
Amazing!
Loved it!
This was a great but incredible true story. Well written, couldn’t put it down!!
This is the story of Jeannette Walls and the life she lived under two parents who were not the best parents. The story I found hard to read because of the situations the children were put in. The writing was frenetic at times as it jumped from situation to situation. Interesting memoir but it is a really sad one.
