Now a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts. MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST The perennially bestselling, extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, “nothing short of spectacular” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir from one of the world’s most gifted storytellers. The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, … is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette’s brilliant and charismatic father captured his children’s imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn’t want the responsibility of raising a family.
The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another, and eventually found their way to New York. Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered.
The Glass Castle is truly astonishing—a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.

Exceptional book
Unforgettable book. A real page turner.
This is one of my all-time favorite books. I wouldn’t miss it.
To close the truth.
Beautifully written novel about a dysfunctional family.
Read for book club. Not my favorite but ok.
Shows that some people really do choose to be homeless, and sometimes children can turn out to be very productive people even though they weren’t properly schooled or nurtured. An inspirational and very well written story about the life of an interesting woman.
One of my top three books of all time!
Well written, but very sad also saw the movie
Sad beyond belief. Wanted to rescue those children and kick their grandmother for not helping them.
One of the best memoirs I’ve read
This is one book that has the reader running the gamut of emotions. There was no telling what the next page, or the next chapter, would bring. A cliffhanger at times. Definitely recommend!
great book, loved the movie as well. Characters make you feel sad for them in one minute and frustrated in the next. Gives you a great look at a dysfunctional family
Very slow moving story.
This was a depressing book. I don’t like to read about children going hungry because of undependable parents. I really liked the first book Half Broke Horses. It was historical and interesting. I am surprised that more people seem to like The Glass Castle better.
The Glass Castle was an fabulous book…hard to put down from the very start. Not at all a movie star autobiography, it was gritty, real and amazing. I have recommended this book over and over. It was on the NY Times best seller list for a longggggggggg time and I know why.
This was one of the first books that I actually started to appreciate. I first read it when I was 14 and it changed many of my views. I could not put this book down because the way Walls crafted her story was amazing and beautiful. The story was very shocking and eye-opening. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone and everyone.
amazing life of this author
Excellent memoir
A sad memoir, hardly believable, it’s why I don’t like memoirs.
