Now a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts. MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST The perennially bestselling, extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, “nothing short of spectacular” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir from one of the world’s most gifted storytellers. The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, … is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant. When sober, Jeannette’s brilliant and charismatic father captured his children’s imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Her mother was a free spirit who abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn’t want the responsibility of raising a family.
The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another, and eventually found their way to New York. Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered.
The Glass Castle is truly astonishing—a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.

Best memoir I’ve ever read
It takes me a while to get through a book, this one I read in three days.
Down-to-earth, warm, inspirational.
Incredible how resilient children can be, even in the most bizarre of family structures.
Although I liked Half Broke Horses better
Loved this book! Recommended it to many people!
This book is one that I made my kids read to really see what they have and what others don’t.
Incredible read!
The story is sadly human about a dysfunctional family that builds a future on hopes and dreams.
Excellent
A memoir that reflects the power of famialial love. An odd and dysfunctional family actually “functions” despite their issues. A reminder that no family is perfect, but that in each dynamic unit there are salvageable parts. The whole is more than the sum of its parts.
I loved this book- I couldn’t put it down. It captivated me right from the beginning.
Hardly can believe anyone could survive
These adjectives never seem to quite fit the books I like, and I liked this memoir by Walls, who’s a journalist haunted by her parents dysfunction. She’s a great story teller and in the end a compassionate one.
Took my breath away
Wow. Stunning.
If you want an unputdownable book, this is it.
Unusual
Good nonfiction
Extraordinary book. Crazy childhood depicted in a riveting way. Highly recommend. So much better than the movie version.
