The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Lois Lowry … Lowry has written three companion novels to The Giver, including Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son. This ebook includes a sample chapter of sequel Gathering Blue.

This will probably always be one of my favorite books. Need to read it again some time soon
This book was my first Forte into a dystopia style story and it is so wonderfully beautiful how everything comes to life, it is an amazing read.
My daughter’s middle school librarian recommended this book. It’s one of her absolute favorites, she said. I knew nothing about it, hadn’t heard of it, nor seen it before. It was either a quick read or so very good I just didn’t stop. Wow. Just wow. Wow. And I’m even satisfied with the ending, although I had NO IDEA where we were going to …
Love, Love, Love this book. Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorite books.
I was introduced to this book by my kids when they were much younger, we had a reading with mom time most evenings after dinner where they would sit around the floor or beside me and I would read aloud. My son, Adam, or maybe it was Kowboy, brought this author to …
THIS BOOK………IT IS AMAZING!……….. I can’t really describe. My friend told me about this book, and asked me to read it I decided to read it. But I thought It would be a bad book or just a normal book, but the book was amazing I really loved Jonas’s action when they decided to release Gabe elsewhere. If I had to rate this book on a scale …
An absolute classic! The world that Lowry creates is absolutely amazing. It encourages you to think about concepts like freedom and individuality that you might not have before. I do not understand why people think this book is controversial. Just because a concept is presented doesn’t mean that it’s being glorified or encouraged. Make sure to …
My absolute favorite book of all times
One of my favorite books! would highly recommend.
I love the character (Jonas) was so so smart and well executed throughout the story.
In many ways! This book inspired me with its brilliant world building! In fact, I would say, “The Giver has been one of the most influential pieces of literature that has influenced me as a writer.” I will read this book over and over!
I love this book so much!!! It’s amazing and makes me fell like I want to change my future. I highly recommend getting this book.
I first read this book in 1995, when I was a 15-year-old high school freshman. It was required reading for my English class, and while I’ve always been an avid reader, I HATED the stuff they made us read in class. ‘The Giver, ‘ however, proved to be different. I blew through the entire book in two days, WELL ahead of the allotted reading time. I …
I’m very late to the game with this book – it was never on my required reading list in school.
With the style of writing, I do feel like it’s targeted towards a younger crowd but I am surprised that it’s labeled in some places as a ‘children’s book.’ However, I can see how it would lead to thought-provoking discussions.
I loved the Hunger Games …
Defines what it is to be human… and not.
When I first started reading this book I didn’t like but in the start of the middle of it I fell in love with it.
This is my all-time favorite book. I am absolutely in love with the world, characters, and conflict. I read it a few times a year, every year, TBH.
Really made me think about how much Satan can deceive folks into forsaking the Lord and his Word. Also made me appreciate the life God has blessed me with.
It takes courage to make a change.
