I liked it. It was a pretty good who did it book.
Not my type of story
Very strong sisters, each battling their insecurities from their upbringing. Nicely written since we’re able to “hear” their inner thoughts. Major twists and turns throughout. Interesting ending.
Not impressed, predictable, not my taste but, others may like.
This book has a slow beginning and took several chapters to get involved in the characters and plot. I did enjoy the book after that!
Enjoyed this book. Great character development.
Boring
This is a n enjoyable read. The characters are interesting and ver true to life.
If the book does not hit me within the first two or three chapters it’s not for me this book did not do it to me I’m so sorry
It was a book that kept me awake during the night…not because it was disturbing, but wanted to keep reading.
I was completely in the dark till the last chapter – it was thrilling!
Makes you want more
good, original story line
I really liked this book. It was full of excitement and drama. There was so many ups and downs. I kept interest throughout the book. It is a great start to a series. I want to read more of this author’s books. I loved the characters and want to find out more about them! I was glad to have read this book.
Two girls living in a foster home become sisters. They reconnect later in life. One is a reporter and the other a detective. A woman found dead. A suspect that comes to light from a lady that disappeared years ago. Are they connected and did the same person kill them. A surprise conclusion to this suspense novel.
I really enjoyed everything about this story!
Madigan and Grace have gone through so many downs, when will they get their ups?
This was a suspenseful mystery that kept me guessing until the end, I did not see that coming!
Don’t give up—on the kids or the front page. It might take some time, but she’ll come around. You’ve got a great eye for detail and you bring heart to this paper.”
Madigan and Grace became each other’s “family of choice” when they were dumped into the foster system as kids. Find the weakness, the flaw, and note the strength. It may be the only thing Maddie took away from her stint in foster care, but its gotten her noticed as a reporter.
Grace lost everything in her attempt to save a woman. Despite the effort she put forth, the most heartbreaking loss could never be reversed or changed. Now,back in Tall Pines, she’s begun working with the small police department and found keeping a low profile might be her best idea.
Can Madigan and Grace overcome the past and work together to help solve a case? Or will that same past implode their renewed friendship?
Two women who were in foster care together as children work together to solve a mystery. Seen from the perspective of each – a newspaper reporter and a police detective- the reader sees how Madigan and Grace react to the clues as they appear in the course of the investigation. This book needed a really good editing before it was released. I’d keep putting it down and picking it up, hoping it would get better, but it kept distracting from the story. And it got so disappointing I’m sorry, I gave up. It’s a good story if it was cleaned up, otherwise, I give it 3 stars.

Very well written. Emerald O’Brien did a great job bringing the characters to life. If you like mystery and suspense, then I highly recommend this book. 5 stars from me.
This was a spectacular book! It had superbly developed characters and incredible world building. I am looking forward to the next book! Emerald O’Brien is a marvelous author!
This book and its characters really resonated with me. “Friends are the family you choose” is one of my favorite expressions and is so applicable for this novel. Madigan and Grace share the kind of bond that my best friend and I also share. The plot was very well developed and peppered liberally with suspense, action and danger. Once I started this book, I found myself unable to put it down, until I reached the end. Then, I found myself wanting more Knox & Sheppard! I think that O’Brien did a beautiful job of crafting the elements of mystery and intrigue around the girls’ sisterly relationship.
