So, you asked me “What book did you enjoy that took you out of your comfort zone?”
I would have to say Stieg Larsson’s series. I prefer books that make me forget the ugly reality that news brings us everyday. Reading about dark family secrets, violence, or rapes is not my idea of entertainment and yet, I could not put this book down. I found …
So question of the week this week wants books that started slow but were worth it – this is the epitome of that, to my mind… I actually picked it up three times – and put it right back down three times – because, despite the raves I was hearing, it starts at a glacial pace and I could NOT get into it. Finally, my best friend told me the secret …
Lisbeth Salander is one of my favorite literary females. So unique that you find yourself rooting for her. Great start to one of my favorite series.
There are four books in the series. The first three are by Steig Larsson. He died before the first was published and so someone else wrote the fourth.
I liked the first book. I thought the second was even better. And the third was again better. I have not finished the fourth but it seems excellent so far.
Recommended!
5 stars to Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. You heard all the hype about the author who died and his books weren’t published. You heard that they were translated into English. You heard they were great and both Sweden and Hollywood were making a movie of it. Well, it’s all true. So is the fact that this is a must read for every …
I eventually read this book because of the strong reviews and I am glad I did. Despite a couple of missteps (one of the villains was a little over the top for me) I really enjoyed the story. It had more than enough twists and turns to keep me engaged. The two main characters were interesting – especially the heroine.
I highly recommend this book. I really like mysteries, and the chance to read one from a foreign perspective was enticing. There are places where the story drags a bit to fit in plot details, but overall it is well worth sticking with it.
I loved all three books in this series, but this one was my favorite. The story hooked me from the beginning and kept me wanting more. I loved how detailed the author was. The audiobook version of this is also really well done.
This book kept me reading late into night. I really liked the whole series.
When sixteen-year-old Harriet Vanger disappears from a family gathering, the very fact of her living on an island owned by her family – the powerful Vanger clan – has huge implications for the police investigation. Forty years later, the girl’s body has never been found, but her uncle believes Harriet was murdered– quite possibly by a member of …
absolutely a must read
This was a brilliant read kept me interested from the get go.
The books into dark areas, but it’s still a well-crafted book with great characters.
I loved this entire series. Great main characters with good back stories. Mysterious, serious, interesting. Great reading.
This book kept me wanting to know what came next. Very sad in a way. Unfortunately could be a true story. Enjoyed all of the different elements of the story.
Loved the book. Slow starter but worth the effort
This is not an easy read, but once I got started it was hard to put down. It’s a dark and dramatic mystery and not something that I would normally read. I enjoyed it enough to read the whole series. Too bad the author died before he could write more.
I love love love love love this series!!
Read the books, see the Swedish movie versions, and see the American movie version of this one. So well written you’ll enjoy each as much as the last, even though you know what will happen. Great book.
I found both books hard to put down.
