The unbelievable true story of a young girl who is abandoned in the Colombian jungle and finds asylum in the most unlikely of places—with a troop of capuchin monkeys In 1954, in a remote mountain village in South America, a little girl was abducted. She was four years old. Marina Chapman was stolen from her housing estate and then abandoned deep in the Colombian jungle. That she survived is a … she survived is a miracle. Two days later, half-drugged, terrified, and starving, she came upon a troop of capuchin monkeys. Acting entirely on instinct, she tried to do what they did: she ate what they ate and copied their actions, and little by little, learned to fend for herself.
So begins the story of her five years among the monkeys, during which time she gradually became feral; she lost the ability to speak, lost all inhibition, lost any real sense of being human, replacing the structure of human society with the social mores of her new simian family. But society was eventually to reclaim her. At age ten, she was discovered by a pair of hunters who took her to the lawless Colombian city of Cucuta where, in exchange for a parrot, they sold her to a brothel. When she learned that she was to be groomed for prostitution, she made her plans to escape. But her adventure wasn’t over yet . . .
In the vein of Slumdog Millionaire and City of God, this rousing story of a lost child who overcomes the dangers of the wild and the brutality of the streets to finally reclaim her life will astonish readers everywhere.

Good story, read
Overall, I’m obsessed with this novel! It started out slow, but as it progressed it was an incredible, almost unbelievable story to behold. According to the author’s notes there is a sequel in the making, and I am hoping it’s true!

So interesting!
This was a pretty quick read, fairly entertaining for a good price.
This has some information at a point in time that i wasn’t aware of. The woman in this book was smart and inventive! She came thru when most of of would not have been able to. This book makes my life challenges look small.
I found this to be a bit tiresome at times. Rather tragic story but the writing was rather bland .
I am a little over half way in this book. I fell in love with the jungle, the monkeys, and this little girl who adapted herself to a world I would never have known existed had she not endured and thrived there. I am at the part where she is “rescued” by people and beginning her journey back to mankind. Obviously, she has adapted to her human …
I loved it and hope there is another one to finish out her life!!
Enjoyed it
I truly cannot understand how she survived this ordeal in her life….how awful!!!! Really wanted to know how she met her husband and about how old she was etc.
I liked that the story was true.
I enjoyed it! It was like no other book I have ever read before. I’m not sure if it was a true story or not, but I could see how it could be. The only thing that was never clear was who/why the kidnap.I found it to be very interesting that a child raised by monkeys could learn how to live with humans. Fascinating!
This story is very moving, both sad and inspirational. It’s a real page turner, incredible to think that this is a true story.
Interesting but not easy because the author is talking about a pre-language time in her life through language so the memories are filtered by he later life. Beautiful descriptions.
Riveting story
So out there no one could have made it up!
Well worth reading, excently written!
Such an interesting story. While much of the early details are remembered through a young child’s eyes and therefore are not necessarily clear, the book has the ring of truth. Only disappointment was the ending happening just when she found a caring family. I’ll be interested in the second book on the rest of this take when it comes out.
I couldn’t put it down! I truly enjoyed this read.
It could have been written with less repetitious stuff about living in the forest, but the book was a compelling and convincing story or an unimaginable situation. It stopped too abuptly.
