Having grown up just before and during World War II, I have been fascinated in knowing the details of the war. This story deals with a young girl transported from Germany to England as the war breaks out. As a teacher I feel for the young girl not speaking English and being handed from one person to another and being bullied and disliked for being German. As the war grows worse in England, it gets worse for my young team ager. In some ways today is much different from then with people hating people. Sad.
But it is a good story and well told as well as well written. I enjoyed the book and will probably re-read it in the near future.
I highly recommend it.
Great historical view of WWII from a different angle. Highly recommend. The book stays with you.
I truly enjoyed this book. The author was able to weave the stories of the characters together in a very interesting way, and the protagonist was the perfect combination of brave and vulnerable. A great read.
Rosie was very unfortunate to have had two ballistic , immoral, explosive, extremely mean step fathers. However even in our current time period people like these exist. Unfortunately, in our God given FREEDOM, our systems of social justice are still not fully equipt to handle extreme cases of abuse.
Excellent story line with much emotion.
Loved this book. Also the one following Charlotte,, called The Married Girls. Wonderful stories and true to life during that time.
Would love to read more books by this author
A memorable book.
I liked this book. It was informative about the Blitz. Bought next one in series.
I really enjoyed this book. It gives one an insight into how people in England managed during WWII. How brave, thoughtful and caring they were and most of all how very brave everyone was. A wonderful read!
Immersed me in the time period
I got bored with this book and didn’t finish it.
I got very frustrated with the story and didn’t finish the book.
Although it made the experience of the bombings in London during WWII realistic, I found the plot contrived. Not very original.
Good book, informative
Historical, gave great picture of how effects all during war
Such a wonderful book. It was hard to put down.
I had no idea these horrific acts were happening to children during the 1940’s in America.
Loved every minute of it and have recommended it to many!
