The USA Today bestsellerMelanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her “our little genius.” Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. I didn’t want to read this book. I thought the title meant it was one of “those” stories–the kind where a singularly beautiful girl discovers she is both a peerless warrior and the savior of some dystopian world that has prophesied her coming. I have fatigue for that particular story at the moment. But in October, I like to read scary books, and …
So @HMish buzzed about this and I read it because I wanted to find out what she meant by “my style of sweet/creepy”. I found out and it’s pretty awesome! I don’t want to spoil anyone (if you don’t want even a tiny whiff of spoilers stop reading now and go read the sample instead! Right… Now!) but I found the ending of this book really …
I really liked the ending of this one, because it is my style of sweet/creepy.
I think I’m a little late to this one, as the movie version is already scheduled to come out soon. But I gather that people have particularly strong feelings about spoilers in this book, so…

You know what – this book was fantastic! I really enjoyed it and I know most people enjoyed the first third. But for me, the story only really begins once the first act is over.
Melanie and Helen are great characters, but I really enjoyed Sgt, Parks – I thought he was the most interesting character in the book and had the strongest arc. The big …
Believable Zombies
I loved [the-girl-with-all-the-gifts-by-m-r-carey] not only because it was scary, and beautifully written, but because the monsters were actually believable. This is not always easy for horror novels. Carey does this with perfection. And there’s a wonderfully unexpected reward at the end.
I really loved the unusual voice and narration of this book. The less you know about the book before you read it, the better it is, so that you get the lovely slow reveal.
How often does the zombie genre deliver something original enough to render it worth reading? I’m happy to share that THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS does just that.
It’s is a wonderful read on multiple levels: perfectly drawn characters, taut pacing, mounting tension, surprises galore, and a twist ending that will leave you thinking for a long time …
I love end of the world novels and this one’s really different.
Suspenseful, poignant, thought provoking. I’ve never read a zombie novel, and after reading The Girl with all the Gifts, I don’t think I would even describe it as such. I feel as though I read a beautifully written dystopian fiction. Highly recommend.
The Girl with all the Gifts is a very smart end-of-the-world novel that takes place years after an apocalyptic event and follows believable, sympathetic characters dealing with different phases of the situation people have been left in. This is a very human, captivating read.
This is what you should pick up if you’re in the mood for a witty writing style, a loving mother-daughter vibe, and a unique take on the apocalyptic genre. It was just a good story and one that I wanted to keep reading about to find out what happened and what would happen with the characters. I was also super impressed with either the intense …
It sucked ! I would write an in depth, comprehensive review, but it does not merit one. It sucked sums it up lerfectly.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It puts a really interesting spin on the zombie apocalypse sub-genre. Before reading The Girl With All The Gifts I thought I’d had enough of zombie fiction for a while, but this book breathes new life into the idea. The thing I liked most about this book was the characters. They all felt very real and had …
This story is not what I expected. The title was a little deceiving, but I was pleasantly surprised..I was waiting for a little genius or physic. I was just recently introduced to the world of zombies, under a rock right, no just no appeal, so I thought. Anyway this story was worth the credit, it showed there is compassion even for a child that …
I wasn’t sure what I’d expected with this book, but it didn’t disappoint. The characters were great, and I LOVED how human Melanie was, and how endearing. I was rooting for her to get some semblance of a family the whole time.
What a twisted alternative world. Well done, very original and I love the development of the characters. I read this one twice because I felt that when I got the the end I needed to start at the beginning again to take it all in fully. Great job, I truly enjoyed this.
This book was so different from others. It’s approach was refreshing and enthralling. The character development was thorough and descriptive.
It kept me on the edge of my seat with my imagination running wild. I enjoyed it a great deal.
One of the few books I’ve reread.
A unique take on the zombie genre.
I enjoyed the first eighty to ninety percent of the book. The ending was in a way, somewhat predictable.
Some parts seemed drawn out and paced well, while others seemed to be rushed through.
