Already optioned for film, The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is Peter Swanson’s electrifying tale of romantic noir, with shades of Hitchcock and reminiscent of the classic movie Body Heat. It is the story of a man swept into a vortex of irresistible passion and murder when an old love mysteriously reappears. On an ordinary Friday evening at his favorite Boston tavern, George Foss’s comfortable, … George Foss’s comfortable, predictable life is shattered when a beautiful woman sits down at the bar, a woman who vanished without a trace twenty years ago.
Liana Dector isn’t just an ex-girlfriend, the first love George couldn’t quite forget. She’s also a dangerous enigma and quite possibly a cold-blooded killer wanted by the police. Suddenly, she’s back—and she needs George’s help. Ruthless men believe she stole some money . . . and they will do whatever it takes to get it back.
George knows Liana is trouble. But he can’t say no—he never could—so he makes a choice that will plunge him into a terrifying whirlpool of lies, secrets, betrayal, and murder from which there is no sure escape.
Bold and masterful, full of malicious foreboding and subtle surprises, The Girl with a Clock for a Heart is an addictive, nonstop thriller—an ever-tightening coil of suspense that grips you right up to its electrifying end.

A twisty noir story–whom do you trust? I confess, it was the cover art that grabbed me, but I’m glad I took a look. The ending will inspire heated book club discussions. Enjoy the ride!
I read Peter Swanson’s The Kind Worth Killing and loved it. Since then, none of his novels have lived up to that one for me. This one, The Girl with a Clock for a Heart, seems almost like it was written by someone else entirely. It was written prior to The Kind Worth Killing, so perhaps his writing improved with that novel???
In this book, George …
This book was okay. I didn’t live and I didn’t dislike it. It was just an average book. It felt a little too long. Longer than it needed to be.
I didn’t like one of the main characters because he was not very smart. I felt like the author left you hanging at the end; maybe to write part II?
I was introduced to Peter Swanson from his masterpiece The Kind Worth Killing; and have read every subsequent published novel. The Girl with a Clock for a Heart has always been a “rainy day” book and I finally got around to reading it.
Normally, Swanson can do no wrong with me as I joyfully rate his books 4 or 5 stars. Being that this was one …
I LOVE BOOKS
A very entertaining and original story line I have not encountered in quite a while, which made me read 2 to 4 chapters per day ( I know – I know). I did not give it five stars because of the ending and I will not spoil it for you trying to explain the reason why.
Good twist to plot. Different from other ‘whodunit’ fiction books
Great and suspenseful story
I have to say it: I’m weary of non-ending endings. Truly.
There’s a feeling of having fallen for a “bait & switch” when you’ve been sucked into a story, committed your time and attention to the plot, embraced the characters, even overlooked certain implausibilities, all because you’re enjoying the read and want to get to the end to find out “WHAT …
Fast paced. Hard to put down.
I believe this is the first book that I ever read where there were no likeable characters and yet I still liked the book. The “hero” in this one is very flawed. Hard to root for a bully.
Interesting and unrealistic in many ways. Call the police.
It was okay but not great.
enjoyed
Different. Page turner
True noir unlike a lot of the lightweight faux noir out there.
Great read! Highly recommended!
Would highly recommend to anyone!!!
Fast paced great read. Good voice. Would have given 5 but ending unsatisfactory. Well written too. Would make great film.
