Ten years ago, four people were brutally murdered. One girl lived. No one believes her story. The police think she’s crazy. Her therapist thinks she’s suicidal. Everyone else thinks she’s a dangerous drunk. They’re all right-but did she see the killer? As the anniversary of the murders approaches, Faith Winters is released from the psychiatric hospital and yanked back to the last spot on earth … she wants to be-her hometown where the slayings took place. Wracked by the lingering echoes of survivor’s guilt, Faith spirals into a black hole of alcoholism and wanton self-destruction. Finding no solace at the bottom of a bottle, Faith decides to track down her sister’s killer-and then discovers that she’s the one being hunted. How can one woman uncover the truth when everyone’s a suspect-including herself? From the mind of Wall Street Journal bestselling author Christopher Greyson comes a story with twists and turns that take the reader to the edge of madness. The Girl Who Lived should come with a warning label: once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop. Not since Girl on the Train and Gone Girl has a psychological thriller kept readers so addicted-and guessing right until the last page. This is the first novel I’ve read by u2060Christopher Greyson. After this, I’ll be reading his others. u2060
The story is about a young woman released from a psychiatric hospital, and she’s all kinda messed up. With the threat of being sent back to the loony bin hanging over her head, she tries to behave but fails miserably.u2060

Years ago, her father and sister were murdered. She only narrowly escaped being killed as well so, now on the outside again, she’s thrust in the world of “groups.” Group therapy sessions.u2060

Other survivors, alcoholics and various lost souls float around her at these meetings carrying expressions of loss and melancholy in one hand… stale pastries and bad coffee in the other.u2060

It’s a tough read at first, seeing Faith punishing herself but it’s worth hanging in there. And when she inevitably begins to search for the man who killed her sister and father, naturally, she puts herself on the killer’s radar.u2060

This is a fun novel where at any given moment, you suspect it’s very likely EVERY character but Faith is the culprit. u2060

I reeled in so many red herrings in this novel, I was afraid the game warden would come by my bedroom and write me a citation. u2060

Solid writing and dialogue. Likable characters and despicable ones, too. Just like a thriller should be.u2060
Wow! This book was absolutely suspenseful, exciting, complicated and fascinating. I was turning digital pages as fast as I could. No one believed Faith, blaming everything on her and considering her crazy. The book is an absolute adventure as she tries to solve the mystery that is her life. It was like a great roller coaster ride with its endless twists and turns. When the “bad guy” was finally revealed, I was stunned.
I only read a few pages & discovered I didn’t care for the subject of the book & there is swearing which I don’t care for in a book. As soon as I can learn how to delete it I will. It’s not worth my time. I received a free copy. This is my honest, voluntary review.
*** So Good***
This book grabbed me from the beginning and never let up! Twists and turns. Not knowing who to trust or who really had Faith’s back, but man oh man! I did not see that ending coming! This book could be made into a small miniseries! No joke! #Must-read
The Girl Who Lived, my first read from author Christopher Greyson. A slow-starter over the first half of the book, but then it takes off like a jet from an aircraft carrier. Extremely well written, the characters are well-developed with an attention-grabbing storyline. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make the reader get invested into the characters and thereby the story. I’ll be reading more from this author! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Loved it, everytime I thought I got everything figured out, something changed!!
Great book! I wasn’t crazy about the ending.
I love this author and this was a very good book. I found there were simply too many people to keep track of.
If you look up the word “thriller” in the dictionary, this book should be listed next to it. Filled with sharp twist and roller coaster like turns, I could not put this one down. Wish I could give it more stars!
One of the best – no! – the best book I read last year. ~
The Girl Who Lived was a great entertaining read. It was gripping, and full of suspense. It will keep you guessing til the very end!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I started this book and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
A unique story of pain and betrayal!
I am a big fan of this author’s series of books about Jack Stratton. When I read he had written a book not related, I was definitely intrigued. I know how well he can weave a story. This psychological mystery kept me guessing every step of the way! One of the best books I’ve read this year! The story pulls the reader in from the first page — I could not put it down!
A masterful story of one young woman’s struggle with major personal losses and betrayals since her 13th birthday when her world collapsed. Through ten years of pain, presented as drinking, breaking the law and getting into all kinds of trouble, we hear her story, her pain and her anguish. While very flawed you will still love and root for Faith after you hear her shocking story! She does not know who to trust and with very good reason. So many twists in this story! You might think a right turn is coming, but, NO! It’s a corkscrew of turns that will leave you, as well as Faith, breathless and questioning every character’s motives! An excellent must read book!
This is one heck of a book…With people you care about, action that never stops, moments where you just sit and ponder whst just happened and a glorious plot.
The minute you are introduced to Faith and her story of her life, you are sucked in and taking those first steps into her rage and drunkenness and why she can’t move on.
You meet her only living family member, Beverly, who wrote a book about Faith and the trauma Faith went through as a teen, the stepdad Thad and Tommy a rookie cop that had loved her sister. You meet rhe cops and shrinks that never believed her story of a stranger killing her dad, sister, best friend and the mom of the best friend.
You see how scary it is to be put out of rehab and be placed in a tiny apt., ordered to attend AA meetings, survivor meetings, see the shrink and by the way, someone she knows has hung herself.
Faith tries to follow the rules but her car disappears, someone has been in her place and people just want her to forget things. She’s not sure who to trust and the anniversary of the massacre if her family/friends is coming up.
Faith finds herself looking for Rat Face….the man she swears killed her loved ones. But her drinking, her rages and threats about another stint in a psych ward are not helping.
The clues are there and you put the book down just to calm yourself and put it all together and just when you think you solved it, anothet clue leaves you gasping.
Moving on, forgiveness, learning to trust and hope are part of this story as is never giving up and redemption. One part at the end totally blindsided me yet it is so integral to Faith and her resolve. If love to meet Faith again later on and see how she has adjusted. The story may be tragic but the ending brings you peace.
This book will stay eith you after you put it down…loved it!!
Not a stay up and page-turner read but an okay read if bought at a bargain price.
I have never read anything by this author previously but this was a good book that I very much enjoyed. It had me wondering who was guilty and the outcome surprised me.
The Girl Who Lived is a slow build in the beginning, painting a picture of a disturbed young woman who has survived something horrific. The story begins with her release from a psychiatric hospital and things steadily progress from there with Faith becoming increasingly convinced that she’s being targeted even while she tries to find the killer. With the list of suspects growing, Faith doesn’t know who to trust, especially when everyone seems to be somehow connected. The book is wonderfully written and the suspense builds with twists and turns that are enough to give you whiplash. The allure of any great suspense story is trying to figure out the whodunit before it’s revealed, and I did quite a lot of that with this gripping psychological thriller. Of course, every time I was sure I knew who the killer was, Christopher Greyson threw another wrench into the works, making me second guess everything. I won’t say more so as not to give spoilers, and this is one that should be enjoyed spoiler-free. Overall, The Girl Who Lived is a gritty psychological thriller, full of suspense, angst, and ‘oh my gosh, who did that’ moments.
