This was an incredible storyline that hooked me right from the very first line. This was an action-packed story that left me with my jaw hanging open. It was that damn good. The characters immediately felt like family and embraced me into their lives. The ending was so satisfying but still left room for a follow up. Incredible!! This author’s work is unlike any other and I cannot wait to get my claws into the next one in the series. Immediately bought the paperback version to add to my collection. You will not want to put it down.
I was left with goosebumps long after I was done read The Girl Who Got Away. Just add this book to my new growing Suspense TBR pile! I am a sucker for romance, but wowza! The suspense and growing anticipation had me hooked! I was not sure what would happen to Evie. So much trials she was going through when a date took the wrong turn.
Nick is written to perfection as the hero. Still he has some ghosts that haunt him but will do what he can to help Evie. I loved the bit of romance that this story still conveyed. The flush in my cheeks were all from the angst I could not get over with! The real world was on time out when it was my time to read. I cannot say enough about The Girl Who Got Away. Paula did this story justice! *Definite recommendation for you suspense junkies like me!*
Evie Longfellow was hoping that the blind date her publicist, Jennifer, set her up with was going to be a success but it turned into an absolute nightmare. Kidnapped and drugged, Evie manages to escape but knows the nightmare is not over yet as Paulie Marino as vowed to make Evie his Sweet Sixteen.
Nick Franklin is shocked when he is in an accident with Evie as she is escaping and he is not prepared for what she tells him. But the former FBI agent knows he will do what it takes to keep Evie safe from Marino and whomever else is trying to get her.
Can Nick keep Evie safe when they are not sure who they are up against or who may be working both sides of the law? When Evie realizes the danger they are in will she turn herself into the FBI to protect Nick and his family?
This was a good mystery filled with some romance and a few twists and turns to keep you wondering what was going to happen next!
My heart broke for Evie and what she went through on her “date” with Paulie Marino and how she realized how much danger she was in after viewing a video. I was so proud of her for figuring out a way to escape although it was soon clear that her nightmare was far from over.
Nick was there for Evie right from the beginning and I knew part of him was trying to make up for what happened in the past when he was a member of the FBI. Nick was determined to keep Evie safe no matter what it took and he only involved those he knew were on the right side of the law.
There was so much chemistry between Nick and Evie but I wondered how all of the pressure they were under would get to them and whether it would bring them closer or push them away from each other. I definitely was not disappointed in how things went down and I understood where each of them were coming from in how everything progressed.
It was super interesting when Tony Aiello who works for Paulie’s mom, Aida, presented Aida with everything. I was shocked at her reaction but at the same time as a mom I understood where she was coming from a little bit although I was definitely mad at her and thought she was making the wrong decision!
As soon as Meg’s son Patrick said something, I knew bad things were about to happen and it made me start freaking as it was an innocent comment! The scene was so intense, and I wondered who was going to make it out!
The very end was good and I am looking forward to more in the series! – By Rebecca
