No lie, I think I’m in love with reading K-pop inspired books.
I’m looking forward to reading The Dancer Who Saved Her Soul because Yerin will no doubt be more dramatic than Lucinda.
I’ll be 100% reading more Ji Soo Lee/J.S. Lee books.
This is book number 2 in the Zodiac series. All that Lucinda wants to do is dance and audition at Julliard when she graduates from high school. As the second book in a continuing series, the story continues when Luna finally found herself landing in Korea to study and be close to Minhyuk. Just as she was about to tell him the surprise, Minhyuk got caught in a scandal that affected his career. He went to SLA, a prestigious school to live down the scandal and imagine Luna’s shock. They were both going to the same school. But with the scandal and the possibility of never debuting again for Minhyuk, will he make the greatest sacrifice and choose career?
Oh to be young again and feel true love stings. Sigh. This book brings out the teen in me and couldn’t help but relive my younger years. First love, first heartbreak, the pressure of balancing school and relationship, meeting the school mean girls, the works. I love that the author stayed true to the story and brings out realistic characters that you can relate to. It was an enjoyable read and I’m curious to know who is that guy with Baekhee at the library.
The Girl Who Gave Him the Moon continues the story of Luna and Minhyuk who have secretly been dating despite Minhyuk’s Idol contract forbidding dating.
Luna has come to Seoul to study dance and to surprise her boyfriend – she’ll be moving to Seoul for high school. When Minhyuk is drawn into a precarious situation with members of the Bright Boys his career is put on hold and he’s sent back to high school where he is surprised to find Luna. But a series of miscommunications and jerk-ish reactions from Minhyuk lead to their break up.
Now Luna is navigating high school in a foreign country and Minhyuk is struggling with how he can get his career back… And maybe the girl he still loves.
The first book at times felt a little awkward from the young age of the characters but in book two Ji Soo has smoothed and really brought these characters to life. If you love K-Dramas or K-Pop, or even just contemporary high school romance, pick this up! It is sweet and interesting with a nice dose of drama. This series will be a one click for me!
Here’s a secret you may not know about me.
I like K-Pop.
I feel like it might not be super surprising. But there it is. Thus, Ji Soo Lee has become one of my new favorite authors due to her reverse harem K-Pop series and this adorable YA K-Pop series.
The Girl Who Gave Him The Moon is technically the second in the series, but the first is a novella that feels more like a prequel/introduction. Our main characters are Lucinda/Luna and Minhyuk/King; both are high schoolers who met at a summer dance academy as children. Lucinda is our blonde American, trying to fit in at a South Korean school and King is our Idol, trying to redeem himself and make it in the entertainment world.
Ji Soo Lee does a great job explaining the “idol” world and typical South Korean Customs. Additionally, she gives recommendations on real life K-Pop songs that make you feel like you are living the story.
Watching King and Lucinda comes to terms with their relationship and feelings is adorable and sweet. And the side characters make you want to read more and more. The friendships and interactions just make this story so relatable. Looking forward to book #3!
