Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

Great book, great movie, recommend both!
Everybody in my book club liked this book except for me. I thought it was a downer.
Great book that I couldn’t wait to pick up and read every night!
I did not care for the heroine. She was a whiny drunkard. No strength in her at all.
This book started out slow but then twisted my mind. I had to go back and read parts over! I ended up liking it very much.
Better than the movie
I really wanted to love this. But it just fell flat. I read through the whole thing expecting the twist. But it was too predictable. And I didn’t care about the characters anyway.
The story itself was good, but it just dragged out.
You’ll stay glued to the pages from cover to cover – a must read if you are into mystery.
overrated… not exciting or provocative.
Enjoyed the book much more than the movie.
Really enjoyed this book!
This book is hard to put down. Surprising twists to the story.
A bit confusing at times but a good read.
Haven’t we all fantasized about the lives of others we see from the window of a train? I read this book before it received all the accolades and was mesmerized by the author’s twist on that and her rendering of a young woman’s slide into alcoholism and confabulation. Brilliantly done.
One of those “I couldn’t put it down books!”
The Girl on the Train was different from most books that I read. At first I had difficulty discerning the timeline, until I realized that it was going back and forth. Knowing what was going to happen, but not in its entirety, kept the suspense going. Truly an engaging read, and one that I will not forget!
What a great book! You have to pay attention.. don’t plan on reading 5-6 pages at a time. The main character is a complete enigma hard to tell what is real.. and what’s in her head
This book was just ok. I thought the author made this book long and drawn out. Do it know if I will read another book by this author.
Intriguing gaslighting story.
