Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

My 15 year old daughter gave me this book as a Christmas present. She is not a big reader, so I think she probably just picked out whatever had the most hype. I liked the way the story started out with us thinking the narrator was pretty normal, and then turning everything on its head when details of her life come out. By the end of the book, I …
The story was fast moving and engaging. The reader has to pay attention to the development of the story as the protagonist is often confused about the actual events
and gives possible scenarios. I enjoyed the book and thought it was best read in one or two sittings.
This book was a good read, a genuine look into a life lived by someone suffering from a broken marriage and relationships as well as trust due to alcoholism…..and the twisted things she becomes witnesses happen. All in all a great read, way better than the movie in my opinion!
Loved this book. Totally don’t want to see the movie for it will ruin my image of the book.
Even though I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, the ending was a bit unbelievable for my taste. It was too pat and all the different plot strings were all tied up in one nice bow. Now how often does that happen in real life?
Excellent page turner
The beginning was a little slow. Very strange book. Not sure I liked it.
I started this book several times and just couldn’t get into it. After all the rave reviews I tried one more time. Am glad I did as the further into the story the more engrossing it became. A story of three pathetic women and how their lives intertwined. One is an alcoholic, one is a sex addict, and one is married to a killer.
I found this book hard to read and I struggled through it. I read many books each year and this one I had to make myself finish. I walked away thinking I wasted my time on this book. I am not one to down books, but this just needed more of a flow and it became very confusing at times. I did not watch the movie based on this book and would like …
The book was a very good mystery. You really didn’t know “who done it”til the very end. The characters were as complex as the plot and the story line.
The book is better than the movie, but still wasn’t as good as promised. The premise is good, but the main character is pathetic and unrelatable. It was literally watching a train wreck.
I think this may be a pretty good book but I couldn’t get into it. I really tried but didn’t finish. I just got tired of the girl and would have probably felt the same if she was a real person that I was aquainted with. I actually feel bad about not liking her.
I had pretty much the same reaction to “gone Girl”. I feel quilty not liking a book …
Slow at first. Liked the surprise ending.
I did not like this book. So many recommendations, plus we read it for my book club. I just couldn’t relate with the main character and could not deal with her looking in the windows. This just wasn’t the book for me!
I did not like this book. It kept going round and round. It took Rachel forever to make any progress. I could tell who killed Megan pretty earlier on and the ending, when the truth came out, was a little blah. I did like Anna’s role in the last death.
Great book. Keeps you guessing until the very end.
Not a feel good happy read. But had a hard time putting it down!
A very interesting, complex thriller. I love the unreliable protagonist technique and this was a great example of how it should be done. When you’re struggling with alcohol addiction and trauma, can you trust your memory at all? And how what you saw from the train window can change your life forever? Dark, gritty, and with a finale that you’d …
Great novel I couldn’t put it down. Intriguing characters , full of action and suspense
Part of book was missing.
