Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

Read it in one night
I could never finish this book. The main character is so wrapped up in her self-pity.
Excellent read. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Not one of the best thrillers I ever read but in the upper twenty per cent
I liked it alot, and it was far better than the film.
This is a page turner. I couldn’t put the book down. Book was much better than the movie.
I enjoyed this for all the twist and turns
Terrible! Don’t know how it became a best seller.
Too slow & drawn out
I found all the significant characters to be unlikable and the storyline to be dull.
UNREALISTIC. STUPID
Even though I had guessed who was responsible before the end, the character development was interesting enough to keep me going. I enjoyed this book
So enjoyed book, I had to read it twice. Ms Hawkins’s tale can hook one till the end. And that’s why it’s nice to read twice. Once to know, the second to appreciate.
Thanks Ms Hawkins, you hooked me till tale’s end. Twice!
Very slow moving!!!
Book was written well, however, I became impatient with main character. So glad my personality is stronger. ;-))
It is easy to get lost in the characters and the relationships in the book, but everything is structured in such a way that a lot of the fun in reading the book is working out the characters and their roles.
I really didn’t think that this was any good! I’m not seeing what all the hype was.
From recommendations, I expected to love this book. I was disappointed, finding the plot overly contrived and the characters all unlikeable.
I did not like this book. I thought it was depressing!
Didn’t get the hype. It was ok
