Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

None of the women featured in Paula Hawkins’ thriller The Girl on the Train are particularly likable. Rachel, the main character, is a drunk. Anna stole Rachel’s husband. Megan has panic attacks and sleeps around. Their careers don’t seem to be particularly important to them, but they feel incomplete without a man (or men) in their life. And those …
Couldn’t relate to the character at all; kept having to force myself to finish.
I read The Girl On The Train probably a year ago. When you read about 3 books a week one often forgets what they are about, but this one is memorable. It was twisted and scary, a real page turner. I also saw the movie but I like to read the book first.
Waited a long while to read this much-hyped thriller and was so disappointed when I finally did. Yes, there are plot twists and turns the author ties together extremely well, but the characters are all freaks in one way or another. I did finish the novel, but truly wished I’d never started it, thanks to the truly troubling behaviors of the main …
I don’t enjoy books where the important clues are not revealed until the end.
I didn’t care for the story or the characters very much. I was disappointed.
Once again, I read a book because there was a lot of buzz about it and, once again, I find myself asking, “Why?”
Rachel married Tom 7 years ago and he divorced her 5 years ago because he fell in love with Anna, whom he married and with whom he now has a baby girl.
Rachel, who began a love affair with alcohol after her one failed attempt at IVF, …
This book is realy nice .
Make word is nice .
Page turner
I really didn’t see what all
the hype was about. Interesting book but not all that in my opinion
If you like psychological thrillers, this was a good read. I listened to it, rather than reading it and it made my work go by more quickly. I didn’t want to stop listening.
Predictable.
There were so many good reviews written about this book that bought it. I did not like the plot or the characters and did not think it was well written. There are too many authors who spin a yarn much better than this one.
Great presentation of alcoholism.
Read this after watching the movie, and of course the book was even better than the movie….
This was a great vacation read.
Perfect and satisfying. A readers dream!
I really did not enjoy this book. There were no redeeming characters. Too dark for me!
I didn’t think this book lived up to the hype. the main characters was drunk a lot of the time and it just seems that she made a lot of bad choices that led to her unfortunate life. I would only recommend this book to people who like dark mysteries and unthinking women.
I hated this book!
