Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

Forgettable
The book is soooooo much better than the movie!
I didn’t care for this book….
Great book
Good Read, BUT-
I finally got around to reading this and I have to say, that I’m not that impressed. It was a well-written book with an intriguing plot and characters, but I felt the story began to drag midway. I was hoping it would be more along the lines of Gone Girl (without the throw your book ending), but it wasn’t. It wasn’t hard to guess …
OK, if you’re not a reader of psychological dramas. Kind of predictable, I thought.
Very well done and interesting.
I love a good suspense story and this one was nicely layered and fun to read.
I had a hard time following the story. When I was able to follow it, the story moved slow and became repetitious at times
Intriguing to read.
Strange book but enjoyable
I expected much better with all the hype for this book. Slow reading for me, and guessed the “surprise” long before we got there.
One of the most gripping books I have ever read. The human memory is such an unreliable source of information, and Hawkins reminds us of that fact every step of the way. On top of the twists and turns that come with every bit of new information, the very real, very human characters made it impossible to put this book down. Thrilling and maddening …
This book has been compared to Gone Girl, but I actually liked it better as it has a satisfactory ending.
Predictable mystery, using plot lines of old, but with less interesting characters.
I know this book got a lot of good reviews. But, I actually didn’t like it. The relationship with the characters is crazy and ridiculous. It drags with her riding the train all the time. I would not recommend it.
This book was a little slow to get started, but once we got to the action I couldn’t put it down!
A very good read
An excellent psychological thriller, with storylines smartly woven together.
You will need to read this one in one sitting because you won’t want to stop.
