Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Girl on the Train has more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl. . . . [It] is liable to draw a large, bedazzled readership.”—The New York Times “Like its train, the story blasts through the stagnation of these lives in suburban London and the reader cannot help but turn pages.”—The Boston Globe “Gone Girl fans will devour this … pages.”—The Boston Globe
“Gone Girl fans will devour this psychological thriller.”—People
A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people’s lives.
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

A page-turner with incredible twists and turns. A most sympathetic “unreliable narrator.”

I saw the movie prior to reading this book, which is something I typically do not do. I thought the movie was only so-so, so I wasn’t anticipating that I would enjoy the book very much. I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed the book, much more than the movie. I listened to the …
So many people love this book but I was disappointed. Perhaps because I am not a fan of thrillers but I didn’t like ANY of the characters; couldn’t relate to their motives; and found the overall sense of the story depressing.
Hard to put down.
Overall this book is a attention grabber from beginning to end. Throughly enjoyed
Suspenseful read! Twists and turns!
A great example of the unreliable narrator.
Superb, unconventional thriller.
Really wanted to give 2-1/2 stars. I found the characters unlikeable and also not relateable. I finished the book because of all the acclaim for it, but I never felt truly engaged. I could not really relate to the story or the characters.
Great book
Drags a little but worth it in the end
Boring and could not stand any of the characters in the book.
I did not like this book much. The descriptions of the alcoholic narrator are very depressing. The great and surprising ending did not make up for it.
Many books I read I can’t always remember later what they were about off hand. This book I can remember like I read it yesterday but it has been several years. Loved it. Would like to see the movie someday.
Slow moving. Unpredictable and uninteresting.
Awesome book—–
I first read the book and it was painfully dull and slow-moving, not unlike the movie. If I had not read the book first, I would have had a difficult time following the movie.
Well written and keeps you on edge of your seat
One of the best of the thriller genre! Couldn’t put it down.
confusing; kept interest.
