Definitely had me fooled!!
This book just kept me reading, couldn’t wait ti find out how this turned out!! As
“The Girl on the Burning Boat” is a book you cannot put down. You wonder what will happen to the characters at every twist and turn. It tells the story of Jamie Weston, a medical student in London, who, while doing one of his odd jobs to pay for his college tuition and helping to install a new kitchen in the mansion of the Belhaven family, becomes infatuated with the beautiful blond girl pictured in one of the wall photographs. The girl, Alice Belhaven, then actually comes to the house with her mother Lena and sister Joanne. Joanne is about to get married and is at the house to find her wedding catalog. Jamie had just found a USB drive under a slat of wood. He slips it into his pocket so he could help carry heavy items out of the old kitchen and then forgets that it is there. Alice actually says a few words to Jamie. She sees him again at his night job in a gas station and learns that he is a medical school student working to pay for his college tuition. After talking to her, Jamie decides that he must see Alice again and researches the name of the caterer at Joanne’s wedding. He gets a job with the caterer and when he sees Alice, is surprised that she invites him to her room for the night. After they make love, Alice tells him that she is engaged and will not ever see him again. Readers wonder if he will see her again and what this has to do with the USB drive. The story twists and turns and readers find out that Jamie lives on his own sailing yacht which he has been restoring. He has also cracked the code to get into the drive. Readers follow along with Jamie and Alice, wondering what the drive has to do with Alice’s father Charlie’s supposedly accidental death and how her father’s friend Peter, the Home Secretary, Is involved with what is on the drive. I found myself trying to solve each problem the author presents while Jamie and Alice go from situation to situation. I also kept wondering when and where the main characters would encounter a girl on a burning boat.
Some interesting turns in the story.
Too predictable; I never card strongly for any character. Was curious about how it would end 00 I forced myself to read it. Title is stupid and refers to one of the last scenes.
This was a very interesting read. With a lot of twist and turns, an an ending that will blow your mind.
Another terrific read by Gregg Dunnett! The story unfolds in unexpected ways, unique setting and interesting characters.
Another great read by this young English author. He only has a handful of books out so far, so it’s a good time to start collecting his work. His stories take place along the rocky coastlines of Great Britain and include memorable characters and unique plots and twists.
This was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. It was lively and entertaining. Kept you wondering what was next. Great read
Plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested.
One of my all time favorites!
Approximately 2/3s of the way in , the author goes for a ‘big twist’ , honestly he wasn’t very good at it & IMO made the end worthless . This did not make me want to read more from him.
Had a hard time putting book down.
Did not see the ending turning the way it did.
Story line unbelievable and didn’t make any sense to me. Its hard to even write a review. At what point did Jamie decide to do all he did, and why. Was he really a medical student destined to have his own place in society. Was he really a nice guy at some point in his life . As for the ending, well it was just a big silly “WHAT ?”!!
There is no comparing this book to the Wave at Hanging Rock, which was sooo good.
Very twisted. I did not guess who the real culprit was until very near the end. Anyone wishing to be kept in suspense would enjoy.
Slow start, but improved as it progressed. Real twist at the end. I never saw it coming.
Great character building and excellent misdirection. You think you’re going one way and everything gets turned around and your thinking to yourself, “oh that’s right, why didn’t I see that?” Good job.
Nothing in this book is what it seems; and that is what makes it good.
Loved this book. Twists and turns throughout.
