The first book in the acclaimed and award winning New York Times bestselling trilogy. The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a remarkable novel full of adventure, sorcery, heartbreak, and power.Elisa is the chosen one. But she is also the younger of two princesses. The one who has never done anything remarkable, and can’t see how she ever will. Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret … has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king — a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs her to be the chosen one, not a failure of a princess. And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies, seething with dark magic, are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake. Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young. Most of the chosen do.

I listened to this one, and I loved it. Rae Carson has created a very cool new world and a heroine I can get behind.
This is a beautifully-created world that I absolutely fell in love with. I really enjoyed going on this journey with Elisa and the other characters. This is a well-written, engrossing YA fantasy, and I’m diving straight into the second book in the series!
I particularly love characters who find their strength and purpose over the course of a story, and this first book in a fantastic trilogy has exactly that. Recommended for readers of fantasy who love interesting characters, strong heroines, and slow-burn romantic story-lines.
Oh happy day! Today one of my favorite books EVER, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, is a Featured Deal.
Elisa is the unfavored princess of a struggling nation. She was born with a gem in ber belly button, which her religion says makes her the Chosen One, but she has no idea what that means. She starts out as rather whiny and hesitant. Instead of …
My book club chose this book based on the rave reviews we’d seen, but this book just wasn’t for me. It was well written and tightly plotted and I really enjoyed many of the supporting characters, but there were two glaring pieces that kept me from really connecting with the story. The first is that Elisa’s worth is very closely aligned with her …
Loved this book and the other 2 in the series. So sorry to have the story end.
Couldn’t put it down, kept me guessing till the end
Elisa is a princess. She’s fat. She’s coddled. She’s also the chosen one. When she gets married off to the king of another country on her sixteenth birthday, she leaves her home forever and plunges headlong into danger. She grows as a person and becomes a brave leader – and learns her own worth.
Alejandro, her husband, is handsome and kind. But …
While this book may not seem very interesting to many readers, those who truly like fantasy or just fiction, in general, could definitely like this series. Eliza is a flawed character, and that is part of what makes this book so good. Her entire viewpoint changes, and although many things are obvious and the book is not as good as others, it is …
The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a compelling fantasy novel that takes place in a country similar to medieval Spain. It has a vibrant atmosphere and culture that draws in the reader. Additionally, by keeping the mythology on the fringes of the story, Carson can explore it and expand upon it throughout the novel. Carson did a great job building the …
This is one of my favorite series of all time. Rae Carson creates such well rounded, human and imperfect but lovable characters. And such a great story. I love them!
This is the first in a trilogy, and is told entirely from Elisa’s point of view. I probably enjoyed this first book the best out of all of them; it is a complete story in and of itself, and is as much a coming-of-age story as it is a story of political intrigue and maneuverings. The world that the author built is both familiar and unique; the God …
Rae Carson has done something many of us strive to accomplish. She created a strong female main character who is not your typical main character. She is pretty in her own right but she does not generally meet the typical beauty standards of the day. I love seeing an overweight main character who proves that it’s not about weight or how you look …
I absolutely loved it! I read the whole trilogy over a few days!
Who doesn’t love a story of a reluctant heroine finally coming into the realization of her own power and worth? Fabulous characters, really stellar world building and a slow and steamy romance add to this great first book in a series.
Anyone else happy to crush on Hector? 🙂
Rae Carson has become a new Favorite Author to me. I read all 3 books in this series and was thoroughly enchanted.
I enjoyed this book! I loved that the main character was plump/overweight; it made for a very interesting and unusual storyline. Rather refreshing, in a world of books where the MC is always thin and stunningly gorgeous.
There was nice action in the story, along with some twists and turns. Interesting setting, a kind of cross between Spanish and …
I loved the book. It will make a wonderful series of books. I know I will buy them.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Interesting character development – enough humor to prevent plodding in sections that can get too heavy. When through the entire series beginning to end without reading anything else in between – do not do that often.
