One accidental pregnancy. One fake husband. What can go wrong? There’s nothing like starting your Monday morning with a positive pregnancy test.Trust me, I know. Because I’m looking at one right now.All I can think is: Oh, hell. My grandmother is going to kill me.This might just send her to an early grave, so there’s only one option—pretending the father is my new husband. If only he’d agree to … husband.
If only he’d agree to fake it.
Kai Connors was supposed to be nothing more than a one-night stand. A long, dirty, one-night stand fueled by one too many tequila shots, where the only promise was to never speak of it again.
But if my unfairly sexy next-door neighbor gets his way, this fake marriage could turn out to be very, very real…

As usual, I adored this book by one of my favorite authors, Emma Hart. Now while you don’t have to read the prequel, The One Night Stand Next Door, reading that is definitely something that is nice to have the background knowledge of how this whole pregnancy debacle began. I loved the snarkiness of Ivy with her pregnancy hormones, as well as Kai’s sarcastic personality and his interest in Ivy to begin with was just as sweet as could be. Also a usual thing we find in Hart’s stories is a wonderful group of friends and siblings that if we’re lucky, she’ll be giving us their stories in future installments of this series. There was even a bit of an Easter egg about characters from other books in this one too if you’ve read her other books. And you can’t have an Emma Hart story without a wacky grandma, although this time, she was a good Catholic woman and that is what led to the fake marriage with the pregnancy forcing Ivy’s hand.
My only complaint is that we didn’t get to see this all the way through to the baby being born. I get that will probably be part of the other stories, but it seemed as if it made this one end kind of abruptly for me. Still, this is really a sweet, fun, quick read, which let’s face it, a lot of us need just that right now!
I loved Ivy and Kai’s story. We got a sneak peak into their dynamic in One night stand next door. I don’t think is necessary to read it for this book but definitely worth a read. This is what happens when a one night stand doesn’t remain just 1 night. Follow these two in how they maneuver this thing called life. You won’t be disappointed and omg the laughs. Awesome book.
This is book 2 and picks up where Ivy and Kai left off. After having a one-night stand, these next door neighbors are forever linked as Ivy is pregnant. But in order to avoid having her parents, or worse, her grandmother freak out, Ivy pretends that Kai is her fake fiancee. But then Kai takes it to another level by letting everyone know that they got married.
The jokes on them as Kai has been secretly in love with Ivy since before their one night stand. Turns out, Ivy was in love with him too but now she’s confused and afraid she has pregnancy brain and that her feelings aren’t real.
Luckily Kai gets good advice from his sister and puts up a fight to convince her otherwise.
As always, the banter is great! Emma Hart is a master of funny older people and quips galore!
I love reading anything Emma Hart! Ivy and Kai are everything!! So much fun! I love the banter!!
First, I would suggest reading the Prequel to this, The One Night Stand Next Door. You don’t need to but these characters are awesome so you are going to want to get as much of them as you can.
Ivy and Kai had a one night stand and it turned into more than that. I absolutely loved these two. They play off of each other well. Their personalities really complement each other.
I love that Kai has had a crush on Ivy for awhile and when he finds his opportunity, he takes it. It results in something special.
As usually this author not only writes amazing main characters but all the supporting characters are just as great. Who doesn’t love the sassy friends? I can’t wait to get more of this group of friends and family.
Emma Hart is a master at writing romantic comedies!!
Kai and Ivy are two characters that you won’t soon be forgetting. These two characters have an incredible connection. No matter how hard they try to fight it, or to ignore what is going on between them, or pretend that they aren’t feeling anything, it is obvious to the reader that they fit together extremely well. Yes, they are different from one another, they didn’t have a conventional start to their relationship, and their relationship now is still unconventional, and yet, that is why they are perfect for each other.
The plot line is hilarious. In true Emma Hart fashion you will be laughing along with the characters, and at some of their crazy antics.
The Girl Next Door is another incredible read, from one of my all time favourite authors! I highly recommend picking up this fabulous novel!
5/5 Stars!
Wow! Emma Hart never disappoints with her books! This is definitely one you will laugh and fall in love with! 5 hot stars for this one!
Ok so we met Ivy & Kai in the prequel The One Night Stand…. They are neighbors, that’s a no go for Ivy, but she gave in that one time, again and again that one night, now you won’t believe what’s happened, or you’ve probably guessed but you need to read it to find out.
Follow their story, you will laugh endlessly, swoon hard on Kai, and over all just fall in love with the book! Grab this one asap!
What a hilariously gorgeous book! I don’t know how she does it, but Emma Hart always seems to make me full belly laugh while my heart is filling. This book had basically everything you need: witty banter, crazy grandmother, sexy next door neighbor, surprise pregnancy, fake marriage, and hilarity like you wouldn’t believe!
These characters will keep you you guessing at every page, plus there is something genuine with each of them. There was something I liked or could relate to with each one of them. The story sucked me in and didn’t twist up my heart, too much at least.
If you are looking for a story that makes you laugh, fall in love, and forget that you’ve been reading for hours – this is it. This story will make you feel good, leave you smiling, and fill your heart.
This was hilarious!
I loved the storyline, the characters, and the humor!
The end felt a little rushed to me, but that was my only complaint… and I also really like my endings and epilogues.
I’d read this again!
This is a quick, yet funny read. I highly recommend reading The One Night Stand Next Door before reading this. At the time of this review it was still free on Amazon. The novella sets up what happens before the book, but it isn’t 100% necessary to read it before reading Kai and Ivy’s story.
I loved the banter between Kai and Ivy. They are neighbors who like each other but never got around to telling each other about their feelings. A one night stand that leads to Ivy getting pregnant finally pushes them together and forces them to explore their feelings. Ivy has a really conservative grandmother that terrifies her, but the rest of her family and friends are pretty supportive. I really appreciated that other than the crazy grandma, just about everyone was supportive of the pregnancy. Because of her irrational fear of her grandma, Ivy concocts a fake relationship with Kai which leads to a few more fibs about how serious they are with each other. Fortunately, they actually like each other so it isn’t much of a stretch.
Because this is more novella length there isn’t a ton of character development. The story focuses mainly on Kai and Ivy figuring out their relationship as a couple and navigating the early stages of her pregnancy. They already know each other casually and their friend group is already established. If you are looking for a light, funny, quick read grab this.
I absolutely loved this one! The follow up to the fun novella The One-Night Stand Next Door, The Girl Next Door is a fun, sexy read that will keep you laughing out loud until the very end. And you will not be able to help yourself from falling in love with these characters.
I fell in love with Kai and Ivy in the prequel and was so glad to hear that we would be getting more of their story. And boy did Emma Hart Ever deliver. I couldn’t get enough of them. I was glued to my kindle and couldn’t put this one down.
If you are looking for a hilarious, sexy rom-com that will keep you in stitches, I highly recommend picking this one up today!
Adorable!
Whether you’ve read the prequel novella ( The One Night Stand Next Door ) or not, chances are good you’ll enjoy this short, sweet, and sexy accidental pregnancy, friends-to-lovers, fake relationship story. (Though you do get a brief recap of the prequel events here and don’t *have* to have read it to enjoy this one, do yourself a favor and read it anyway. Emma Hart has a way with rom coms, and you won’t be sorry.)
Ivy and Kai are an adorable couple–he’s been crushing on her for a while, but though she thinks he’s hot, she doesn’t think she’s in a place for a relationship right now. But then their one night stand and its…implications happens, and she kind of has no choice. Though she still tries to fight it, tooth and nail. So Kai does what he has to in that situation, distracting her with free food and sexy times…
It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it 😉
Ivy and Kai have a quirky set of friends and family (OMG, Ivy’s grandmother!) who will have you laughing along with their antics, and yay! it looks like (from the blurb at the end) that at least one of them will get their own book in the future. Fingers crossed that they all will…
(Except maybe not Ivy’s grandma? I’m not sure my heart could take it…)
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Girl Next Door by Emma Hart is everything you want in a romcom romance the accidental pregnancy included for the added reading pleasure. Kai and Ivy are next door neighbors who had a one night stand and Ivy ended up pregnant. Ivy is completely freaked out, worried how the news will affect her Grandma Rose and scared to tell the father- Kai. The story is such a mix of humorous banter, swoon-worthy male lead, sassy heroine, sweet and sexy chemistry, fake marriage, and awesome HEA.
Kai and Ivy’s road to HEA is just amazing, fun, hot, sweet, and emotional. I liked Kai. He was great book boyfriend material. Ivy was sassy and headstrong. They balance each other out. I can’t wait for book 2 in this new series.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *********
I’m always happy to read an Emma Hart book, they are always full of banter and wit to keep you reading nonstop until the very end. The Girl Next Door was no different, it was funny and full of charm. It is best read right after The One Night Stand Next Door, a quick story of how the characters meet and where the next story will follow.
It’s been eight months since Ivy Stuart moved to her apartment building and she is attending her third apartment building party, even though she is not a party person. But going to the party would mean seeing her neighbor and secret crush, Kai Connors. They have fun and drink a lot, which ultimately leads to them having a one night stand. They agree to never speak of it again, but she soon finds out that is pregnant and doesn’t know how Kai is going to react.
To make things worse Ivy is afraid of how her family, including her very religious grandmother is going to react to the news of her being pregnant out of wedlock. To her surprise, Kai is there for her right away. He is shocked at first, but is willing to do anything for her and the baby. This leads to them spending more time together and people are starting to notice, so they come up with a plan to not send her grandmother to an early grave. They will pretend to be married for the time being, yet neither of them expected to be accepted and included in each other’s families right away. They both are aware of the chemistry and the sexual tension between them, so when they give in things quickly change. Ivy doesn’t want to force Kai into a relationship just because of the baby. While Kai is ready to make her see that they might just be perfect for each other.
With their lives changing, both Ivy and Kai will have to go through ups and downs in order to get their happily ever after. I very much enjoyed reading this book, Hart did a good job portraying the characters while making them relatable as well. While Ivy was hilarious, Kai was sweet and credibly romantic. They are a true match and it was fun getting to follow them on their journey. Although I loved the story as a whole, there were some things that I felt were unresolved and it ended a bit fast for me. I would have loved to see the author extended the ending a little bit more, but the epilogue was sweet regardless. I would still recommend it as well any other works by the author, they will not disappoint. 🙂
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
After reading the prequel to this full length story, I was dying to find out how these two handled everything. While you don’t need to read the prequel to fully enjoy this rom-com, I highly recommend it and it’s free so you can’t go wrong!
Yet again, this author has delivered a funny yet sweet romantic comedy. Kai and Ivy were so perfect together. Although they were just neighbors, they seemed like they had been friends forever. They were so close and they were each other’s perfect other half. Kai was so dang swoony! I loved how much he crushed on Ivy and how he wasn’t afraid at all to step up and be there for her and keep her happy.
As always, the side characters had me laughing and I quickly fell in love with them! I’m so happy some of them get their own books in the upcoming, The Bookworm’s Guide series.
This was a feel good rom-com that had me smiling and feeling so good!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
I love Emma Hart’s romcoms and The Girl Next Door is no exception to that. Ivy and Kai are loveable characters from the start and you can’t help but continue to fall more in love with them as the story continues.
A one night stand with your neighbor is probably not a good idea. Ending up pregnant from said one night stand not the best. This is the last thing that Ivy expected. I loved Ivy. She is quirky, sassy and all sorts of fun. Kai, well he is swoony. Seriously. This man is the perfect baby daddy. He is caring, supportive and actually puts in some effort when it comes to Ivy and their baby.
I loved Ivy and Kai’s relationship and the progression of it throughout the story. They have amazing chemistry and their banter is hilarious. Plus, the way Kai was with Ivy’s family, especially Grandma Rose. It was amazing and hilarious.
If you love a surprise baby romcom The Girl Next Door is a MUST READ!
Ivy and Kai are neighbors and see each other around they both like what they see but neither really make the first move. Until one drunken night they get together. It was awesome, it was great BUT what’s going to happen now that the pregnancy test says pregnant?
Can Kai show Ivy that he really cares about her now even though he had feelings before? Will she believe him? Can they make it work between them for more than just the sake of the baby?
Bring crazy Grandma into the mix and her parents and you have a hilarious story! Their reactions to grandma literally had me laughing out loud. Kai is the sweetest man ever!!!
The Girl Next Door by Emma Hart had me in stitches as I fell head over heels in love with Ivy and Kai!
And before I dive into why the story is amazing, because, lets be real, it is fantastic, I just want to take a moment to wax prosaically over how epic the secondary characters are, and how much they contributed to making the story better than it already was. They were hilarious and added lovely little moments of charm, laughter, and character!
Moving on. We have Ivy and Kai. Ivy is feisty, charming, unapologetic, real, and delightfully snarky. Kai is charming, adorable, sweet, definitely a cinnamon roll, and nice with the perfect amount of sass.
The plot is adorable and a fun take on the trope, the journey sweet, and the story will leave you smiling, and your heart happy! Look no further for a story that will make you giggle, perhaps snort, and absolutely will leave you craving some cake and ice cream!
The Girl Next Door is Emma Hart’s newest rom-com. I highly recommend reading the free prequel, The One-Night Stand Next Door. It’s a fun and hot novella and it’s the night the baby-making happens!
It was supposed to be a one-night stand between neighbors who didn’t want anything more. And now, six weeks later those neighbors were going to be parents! Ivy was freaking out. She was not ready to be a mom. She wasn’t ready for Kai’s reaction. And she definitely wasn’t ready for her Grandma’s disappointment. She was going to have a stroke. That’s exactly why she tells Gram that she was secretly engaged then married Kai. Good thing Kai’s reaction to all the news was surprisingly calm. She needed calm after all of this. What she didn’t expect…Kai wanting to date her. For real.
Yes. For real. What the f*ck? Ivy didn’t want him to only date her out of obligation. Yes, they have fun together. Yes, their one night together was hot AF. But, could they really do this?
Aw! I know when I start an Emma book, I will be laughing so hard and once again I was right. Ivy is so much fun, sassy, and witty. Kai is a sweetheart with a side of alpha in him. He is truly adorable and swoon worthy. Together, their banter is flirty, hilarious, and overall fantastic. I am so excited about the next books!
P.S. I really want some ice cream!
Quotes:
“Ivy, if you need to move, then move,” Kai muttered, not opening his eyes. “But stop staring at me like I’m a jar of pickles.”
“I can’t sleep with anyone else. I don’t want anyone thinking I’m unfaithful.”
“Really. Is that so?”
“No. I’d just really rather have sex with you again.” He flashed me a grin. “Is that really that bad?”
“I don’t know. You told me I’d feel your cock inside me for a week, and you lied.”
“Technically, I did leave something inside you, so it wasn’t a total lie.”
“A Fred Flintstone moment?” Kinsley questioned.
Holley shook her head. “Please do—”
“I made her bed rock,” Kai replied with a grin, like he did every single time I brought up the Flintstone thing.
And another jackpot romcom story from Emma Hart!
Her books have it all: fun <- and a whole lot of fun, sassy heroine, swoony male character. You have to love Kai! He’s so fun, easygoing, aims to please, but gives Ivy back as good as he gets. And Ivy can dish out real good. : , ’ . : ’ . : , . . I really laughed out loud a lot of times, cringed in the next because Ivy is really blunt (and it’s all true lol) and swooned in the next minute because Kai just makes everything better! They have a lot of chemistry behind their banter, and they are a perfect match! Love love love them!!
